Once upon a time, if you were moving country, you'd have to get rid of your existing Xbox Live account and start from scratch. But it looks like that might now be a thing of the past, as Microsoft has now opened up the ability to migrate your Xbox Live profile to another XBL region, albeit with a few caveats.
These stipulations, or "consequences" are detailed below, and include the possible inability to re-download content and the cancellation of your Xbox Live Gold subscription. Here's the list of consequences listed by Microsoft, via

Microsoft is now apparently accepting migration requests, although it is a manual process that can take up to six weeks. Still, it's better than losing all of those hard-earned cheevos, right?
