  1. Can this Thread be locked? I wasn't aware this was still pinned and i don't want people to think Halo is still on the MLG/AGL scene anymore.
  2. THERE WILL BE A VIDEO TO GO WITH THIS EPISODE, 1 VIDEO PER EPISODE FOR THE SERIES, FOR EACH EPISODE. I WILL LINK TO IT WHEN IT IS DONE. THANKYOU TO Bnus FOR MAKING THE VIDEOS. Hey guys, i know i know, you've missed me SO much...*cough* Anyway, here we are again folks with a brand new series of how to become a better Halo player, where if you are a complete newbie i will give you tips and tricks on how to start from the bottom, and work to the top, and if you are a seasoned veteran of the halo series, i will try to teach you something new. So, lets do this. These posts will be heavily edited, so if you want to come back and read it, i would be grateful I will start from this episode, with some of the things before the game, and what you can do to put yourself in the best frame of mind/weapons to enter the game. So, lets begin! Sorry if this is long winded and all but i wanted to get as much detail as i could into this so I know i will be giving 110% to you guys, because i love you so much. <3 LETS BEGIN. *Loud cheers* 1. Loadout Preferences Now keep in mind these are all MY opinion, not fact, if you don't agree with what I say you can use your own tactic, I'm just trying to give my opinion from a beginner standpoint. Loadouts are obviously one of the most important things in Halo 4, if you pick the right loadouts you have all of the necessary tools to be able to take over a map and be able to win the game for your team because you will be able to give the right balance of support and assault, while being able to defend yourself against the enemy spartans if they attack you. With the loadout/Loadouts i will show you now, I feel this is the best way in order to achieve all of this, at once. Primary Weapon: BR Now the newbies among you are probably thinking "But Biggles, I use AR/DMR cause they seem to be stronger weapons and are more effective. Now while yes this may be true in some situations, this is not for all. I believe that the BR is the best overall weapon for any situation. It is effective in close/mid range battles and to a large extent, if you have accuracy of a decent calibre (in other words, not me) the BR is a very effective weapon at long range. Also because of the update which made the BR 4 shot kill possible (4 hits to kill - last shot in head, correct me if I'm wrong and if its still 5SK) it can be seen to be the most effective weapon in the game and probably the most powerful primary weapon to use, since it doesn't take a lot of time to kill, compared to lets say, the DMR, which can take a bit longer. If you have good aim and feel like you are able to hit spartans from a long range i would definitely recommend the BR, because of his fast kill time and its raw slaying power, also because it was in Halo 3, and Halo 3 nostalgia. Another reason i'd also pick the BR is because it is a precision weapon, which means to an extent you can't spray aimlessly, you have to be able to pick and hit your shots perfectly, which is the best way to increase accuracy. Secondary Weapon: Plasma Pistol The Plasma Pistol is probably the best secondary weapon in my opinion because it can be the quickest way of getting yourself out of a tight situation if you are ever in trouble. If you are down to half shields and they are full, you can spray the holy hell out of this weapon and you will take him down quickly. One of the most common mistakes i see is people charging up the plasma pistol and using it as that kind of a weapon. The plasma pistol is very effective when it is sprayed and with the BR it works exceptionally well because then all you have to do is hit them in the head and it works. One of the disadvantages of this weapon is however that it doesn't really work long range because its easy for the player to dodge, so its not a weapon for the long range, if however you want a weapon where you can make it a lot more difficult for your opponent and make it so they have to run away from you, and you don't have to die. The Plasma Pistol is the best way to go. Grenade: Frag Grenade A lot of the time I see a lot of players going after the player who has no shields, because he is seen to be the easiest kill. However with a Frag Grenade this can be prevented. The reason this can be prevented is because you can bounce the frag off of the wall, so if they chase you and you run off, they will feel the full force of the grenade and then you can turn around and get an easy kill. Unlike the Plasma Grenade and the Pulse Grenade, where it can be seen that you have to be a lot more precise, the Frag gives a bigger area of effect which means it can do more damage to a given radius and therefore can affect more people, instead of the Plasma which in reality can affect 1 or 2. However one of the disadvantages is the Frag cannot stick to people, and therefore cannot be used as a kind of 1 hit kill, as it is more used for weakening enemies/cleaning the kill up if they are weak and you know how to time the grenade (Will be explained in next entry) Armor Ability: Jetpack I always like to have a height advantage over my opponent, because then I feel that it is easier for me, because it is a lot easier to shoot down then shoot up, with Jetpack, this can be done. You can gain the height advantage so it will be easier for you to get the kill, and your enemy will lie dead on the floor, confused as to why he is dead and why he found it harder to kill you. Also, the Jetpack can be used to get you out of tough situations, if you are getting chased, and there is a platform up there but there is no lift around, what do you do? JETPACK. Jetpack has saved my life quite a lot and i know it has saved a lot of other people because they are able to get into and out of certain situations and into certain hiding spots which has saved their life (also will be in a future entry.) So the Jetpack is a life saver, literally. There are a few jumps i can show you with the Jetpack, which will come in a later entry. Tactical Package: Mobility Sometimes you need that quick edge on the opponents that you may think you have been lacking or maybe need that quick getaway before the opponents spot you and you get shot to death. This is where Mobility comes in. Mobility is used so you can get unlimited sprint, which is useful because then it can allow you to get to the more powerful weapons easily and allows you to get away/catch up to other enemies when they run out of Sprint. Mobility gives you something that a lot of the other Packages don't, Speed. Something which can be seen to be vital on Halo as it can be the difference between victory, and defeat. Support Package: Ammo This is pretty self explanatory, but it helps as it gives you ammo so you don't run out of ammo midway through battles and to make sure basically, you are always prepared for battle and so don't look like an idiot meleeing through 99% of the game. Hopefully this helps you a lot on how to prepare for the beginning of Halo 4, and hopefully helps kick ***! 2. How to control ANY map - In Basic Terms So, it's your first few games of halo 4, and you keep wondering why you keep losing and why you keep dying? Simple, you don't have control of the map. The way I control the map, and the way a lot of the other players do, is to control the Power Weapons. What are Power Weapons i hear you ask? A Power Weapon is a weapon, basically, that can change a game, this can be anything from a Rail gun, to a Rocket Launcher. If in the right hands, these can cause devastation and can completely switch the momentum of a game, whether it be for your team or not. (Power Weapons are usually the ones that are in the ordnance drop at the beginning of the game) What i would usually do with this is control the power weapons and make sure the team is always watching at least 1-2 of the power weapons when they respawn, cause then not only are you stopping them from getting the power weapons, you are also shutting them down and making sure they have no way of getting out past their side of the map, because there is no way of them pushing out of their side of the map without them dying. However, this isn't a perfect world, and mistakes are made, and maybe you give away 1 or 2 of the power weapons. What to do then? You prioritize the person with the power weapon and try to kill him/assassinate them. This does not mean that you miss all of the other enemies who will probably be shooting at you. But you specifically look around for the person with the power weapon and try and kill him, and then regain map control, power weapons are a large part of map control, and this is essential. Another way of getting map control is positioning all of your team and yourself so you are all around the map, but you can all see each other, and maybe if there is a lift up to your side you put two people around that vicinity so if they then all go up the lift, you can find it a lot easier to deal with it. Also, make sure you can see each other as often as possible. Now, this doesn't mean follow your friend around until they get so annoyed with you they betray you (that happens after a few drinks.) Instead what you do is make sure, that if they get in trouble, you only have to move a few feet to see them, but again, this all comes with playing the game more and learning where people usually go. The last thing you want to do is be at the bottom of any map (lose map control and height advantage) and you don't want to have no weapons. If this happens, you need to try and break their position and their placement and sort the issue, something which will be discussed in another entry. 3. Positioning Positioning is something that, to me anyway, is important as Power Weapon control and map control, as obviously without positioning, the other 2 aren't really effective, so, how should you position yourself? The truth is, there is no real trick or tip to do this. Positioning is very situation influenced and you need to decide what to do in a certain situation. Positioning is something that comes along with playing the game more and learning different ways to play and how to play. But as a beginner, i will try to give the best way of how to learn quickly and effectively. Typically, if i see all my teammates rushing along down one side of the map and piling that side, i run around the side, this is so i can catch anyone off guard and see if i can kill anyone, but also i can give cover to them if they run into trouble and get there quickly, and also, in a way I act like kind of a scout. I act as a scout because if I die on the opposite side of the map, my teammates will know that 2-3 of them most likely are on that side of the map and can push along freely because they will be too busy with you to worry about you flanking around the other side of the map to kill them. But whatever you do, always try to stay alive. You being alive is obviously more important than being dead, if you know you're in a losing battle, run away, you will know if you're in a losing battle if you have: Less Shields/More Enemies in that one place DON''T TRY AND BE A HERO AND CHALLENGE THEM, 99 TIMES OUT OF 100 THIS NEVER WORKS. You are a lot more valuable to your team alive than dead, and you never know, you could be the reason you win, just because you didn't get greedy and realized your life was more important. The same applies in objective game-types too, your life is more important than a flag capture (unless its a tie and there's 1 flag and you're close to it, where in that case, run towards that mofo and capture it) as said, your life and your death are very situation based, and you've got to decide when to do one or another, if its for the benefit of the team. But, what if you're one of the people with the other 1-2 people who are running with them and trying to help the lone guy/guys? Well in that case, you make sure there's an escape route, you don't want to be the one person who gets trapped and flanked and you have no escape plan, that never works in real life, and its no different in Halo, you should always be aware of your escape route and always be ready to use it, as obviously it is going to save your life. I am not saying you should camp at the back of the map and be a vegetable, because then you're not of use to anyone, but just keep your wits about you, and try to make the right plays, at the right time. A live and able Spartan is always better than a dead Spartan. You don't want to be tea-bagged, it isn't a sign of love or affection, its HUMILIATION 4. Don't care about Matchmade Teammates, Because 90% of the time, they won't care about you. Your teammates, for about 10 minutes, SHOULD be your best friends, they should be like brothers to you, in the respect that you should be able to rely on them in your times of need, and they should be able to rely on you. But, this isn't a perfect world unfortunately, if it was, I would be King of the World currently. In reality, your teammates don't care about you and can be pretty useless, whether they give up kills, take all of the power weapons or cry, if you don't know them before you play with them in the game, don't trust them. They will try and blame you if they can and they will never take the blame for themselves, and will call you "bad" and maybe swear at you a few times because you did one thing wrong. (Seems to remind me of someone...) But in reality, they only die because they make their own mistakes, and just want someone else to be the scapegoat for it, you just need to play your own game and ignore them, they won't be your future husbands/wives/brothers/sisters/sons/daughters and will have no real meaning to you, you should just mute them and ignore them, as you are probably a lot better than them and they just can't accept it. Everyone knows Xbox Live is full of trolls and other such worse people like that, and people who have such a massive ego they need another house just to fit it in, so, ignore it, try and find people who want to help you and people who are actually nice, because believe it or not, there are people out there, not everyone is an evil monster who is out there to get you. What you should do with teammates like this is just do what you normally do as stated previously, don't try and change your game-style to suit them, because they certainly won't change theirs to suit you, they see you as a pawn in their game, and someone who can be a scapegoat and can be got rid of if needed be, random teammates are the worst and should not even be trusted with an xbox controller, as the worst are 11 year old kids who scream down the mic and have no kind of discipline and their xbox will guide them through childhood, in other words, a squeaker. Find nice teammates, find people who want to play with you and who you want to play with, find some people who you can learn and leech help off and people who will sit down and assess gameplay, find people who don't get annoyed at the slightest things and realize we are all human, we all make mistakes and can accept them, because at the end of the day, that's what we all are, Humans, not robots. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So guys, this is it. The First Entry of my How To Become A Better Player at Halo 4, we start again. This is something i have put off for a while but finally I got round to doing it, sorry if this isn't for the hardcore group of people who were looking for the MLG pro tips, that will be something i do but not as of yet, as i feel i want to get to the core of halo before i move on to the more advanced stuff, as i feel everyone should start at the same place. I KNOW ITS QUITE A LOT TO READ, I TRIED TO BREAK IT UP WITH PICTURES BUT IT DIDN'T WORK, IM SORRY. I KNOW CHINA CALLED AND THEY WANT THEIR WALL BACK, BUT THEIR WALL IS BEING USED FOR MORE IMPORTANT PURPOSES. I hope everyone enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed writing this, because i do this not just for learning, but to entertain you and hopefully at some points give you a laugh (I'm not naturally funny, sorry to disappoint) because as I said, this is all for you. I hope you will stick by me and realize this was a very basic, beginning guide again and once i get back into the swing of things, i will get into more details and will address more points, so, thank you all! I feel from now on i will do 3 points in each series instead of 5, because that way then its easier to take in and they can be done a lot quicker, instead of having to wait around for them, i also believe the quality will be better as well. In the Next Episode: -Different Types of Power Weapons Mentality Part 2 What to do when you find a team and how to organize yourselves TL:DR: I made everyone a Pro at halo. EDIT: Thanks for the support guys, without you i wouldn't do this! <3 Song for the episode:
  3. BR Pistol Plasma Jetpack Ammo Mobility This is off memory, if its wrong i will edit it properly with it, but it is something like that.
  4. As long as no one else aside from Coldfreeze says me, i won't hide in the corner ;D
  5. This is to me anyway, the whole point of disappointment, so you can get knocked down, and then get back up again. Kind of like this song:
  6. By SLASO, you mean Mythic? I remember that on Halo 3, some of the best fun i've ever had.
  7. Bloodgulch was remade for Halo Reach. Just 0% Remakes, with remakes it means its harder for more creative maps to be made. Just 100% new maps.
  8. Really Good Commentary Any Feedback? Try not to say Umm so much, you may not notice it, but its noticeable in the video, it may not be a big issue either, but for me anyway, you should write out a general idea what you're going to say, so you don't need to stop and start so much Other than that, really informative and useful
  9. If anyone is up for playing this, i'll definitely do it. Looks like great fun
  10. No more remakes. Why not let community maps be made? Remakes just get old fast and that was shown in halo 4. Lets make new maps, and stop referring to the old. Isn't that what new titles are for?
  11. It's pretty hard to believe he didn't die. It would be even more stupid if he came back without a sufficient reason/stupid reason "Oh hey look, i was resurrected!
  12. Sarah is just ungrateful tbh. Wouldn't care if she died.
  13. I'll take lucky number 14 EDIT: Aw Crap, too late to join?
  14. I would also like to see some easter eggs, it spices up the game and makes it more fun
  15. Congratulations on MoM Buddy! 100% deserved for all of your hard work
  16. Sith. They can use powers to manipulate and control the Spartan, where as the Spartan only really has guns.
  17. Best game to be ported into ever. The way you flap....
  18. Sniper Rifle. Just because its the first real power weapon i started with so therefore i enjoy that most.
  19. I can't do EST early hours, but if you ever need someone in general, i'm there
  20. They're really 2 very different games. It's hard to compare them since they're there for 2 different purposes. They're both great games
