No it wouldn't. The laser sight doesn't need to have a light appear on a person's head, nor does it need to reach so far that you can see anyone within the laser's reach limit. Instead, the laser could be like a cone shape (in terms of 3D modeling) so that the light only goes to a certain point in front of your gun, but fades out as it gets further from the gun. So even if you have a laser sight, it's just for show but doesn't increase your accuracy. Like I said: "Weapon Customizations WITHOUT in-game effects". By the way... I'm not saying these ideas are final. That's how an idea thread starts - you provide examples and people say what's good and what's not while providing their own ideas.

The only difference between the two is that the DMR's ammo lasts longer and it doesn't shoot in 3 round bursts. Maybe in Halo 4, they can add both the DMR and the BR? Or make it so you can set the BR to burst or semi automatic (single shot).

If they were to do that, they would have to restrict it so that you can only get 4 challenges done per day. Otherwise people that are, say, experts at Team Snipers, Team Swat, and Capture the Flag would be able to complete 16 challenges in a day, while as people that just want to play Team Slayer or Big Team Battle can only get 8. So yeah, if they make challenges for each playlist... it needs to be forced that people can only get 4 challenges done per day.

You must emphasize about how much zombies smell for it to count! And thanks.

Which of these Covenant you like most of all?
GrayForce replied to Archangel Tyrael's topic in Halo Reach
Grunts. Because I can TOTALLY relate to being a meat shield. -
1) Do you really think this is necessary to be added or do you just want it because it would look cool? What's more important in a battle? The switching animations or the bullets entering people's skulls? Indeed. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but don't be surprised if it's not implemented. 2) They have that. It's called a Falcon. 3) If you know how to throw a grenade, you can be as deadly as using a trap. But I can see this mechanic as becoming unfair pretty quickly for objective games, where everyone spams traps so the other team can't get through to the flag, for example. Traps are better for games like Assassin's Creed. 4) This should only be allowed if you run out of ammo for both of your weapons. Kind of like a 'last resort' thing. Like if anyone's ever played those Pokemon games for the Gameboy or whatever, and your pokemon runs out of power points (0/10 for each power, for example), then they use 'struggle' which isn't a real ability but it's a last resort sort of thing. 5) Press the B button to perform a Melee attack. 6) Again, an unnecessary animation. I'm fine with the idea of my Spartan drowning because it adds challenge to the game. 7) I like this idea... having a boat of some kind. I don't think I've ever seen a water vehicle in the Halo games yet, so this would definitely be a nice change. No. If you miss with your rocket, you deserve for it to have missed. 9) ... 10) I can just jet pack to the top of the wall already.

The Elephant is maybe 2 Scorpions tall. The Scarab is... um... tall. I haven't actually had a chance to do measurements for obvious reasons, but I'd guess they're maybe 4 - 5 scorpions tall. The Scarab has giant legs that can crush vehicles that get under there. The Scarab has a giant canon that can obliterate anything that it fires at. The Scarab has a huge auto-fire canon at the top of the ship that can take out vehicles or people. The Scarab comes equipped with a back-end cover, of sorts, to block the reactor from being shot by enemy infantry / vehicles for a short period of time. The Scarab comes with a number of Infantry on board with an auto Plasma turret on the left, right, and rear. The Scarab's drivers are encased within the Scarab and safe against outside harm. The Elephant's Driver is visible through the front window and can be assasinated from behind due to an open cockpit (and can also be shot from behind from long range weapons). The Elephant is open from all angles, including the front which allows vehicles to drive out from the front. The Elephant does not have its own main weapon like the Scarab's giant gun. The Elephant has 2 Machine gun turrets manned by infantry units without any protection from aerial attacks or sniper attacks. The Elephant is a dwarf compared to the Scarab and can be stepped on too. Plus if you were to measure width of the Scarab... the Scarab is at least 3 Elephants in width if they were put side to side. Maybe 2 1/2, but still. If you were to, say, fight a Scarab in Hemorrhage, it would never be able to move because the walls would keep it stuck tight in the canyons. Elephants would be able to move easily, so that's their only advantage in that area. So if a Scarab were to be included in a game for Matchmaking, I think it should be immobile in a construction yard, of sorts, and players need to plant a bomb inside the Scarab to win the match. The Scarab's laser would be functional, but just like with the Armor Abilities in Reach, it would have a recharge time and would need to be used wisely. Edit: Even if you upgraded the Elephant's guns to be Gauss turrets, the Elephant's crew would still be visible to all units from all locations (air, front, back, etc.) while as the Scarab's crew is safe due to the legs blocking shots, the vehicle being able to turn very fast, and of course, the pilot being completely enclosed.

I agree with most of that except for this: Slicing their head off would be a little difficult, to my knowledge. You see, the reason why Halo: Reach only has it where you can break necks instead of slicing off heads is because the animation, the weapon activating, and of course all the other stuff going on in the background all requires scripts to be running. That, and the fact that if you cut off someone's head, the game now has to register two different objects appearing in an area rather than just the body. It's much easier to program an animation for having a neck twisted as opposed to having a head cut off and having particles appearing. So maybe just doing something like with the Energy Sword where you can shove your sword through their back or something. One of the biggest problems with games is trying to make things work within the processing power that the Xbox 360 allows. This is also why you don't see Infantry fighting off in the distance while you do see Scarabs, Banshees, Phantoms, Pelicans, Falcons, etc. They want to give you a feel for the field being a huge battleground, but not destroy the processing power of the 360 at the same time. You know how sometimes when a vehicle (such as a cruiser or scarab) explodes on your screen on Reach, it will often cause some framerate lag? Imagine that at a much higher scale and included in almost every battle... Reach just wouldn't have functioned / had players. I'm a veteran of a game called Second Life and I've seen first hand just how bad lag / framerate issues can get due to player ignorance and trying to have the most epic stuff in the game just because they wanted it. There's a difference between what is wanted and what can be done... a lot of players get upset because there are some key elements of games missing that would interest them... but what it ultimately comes down to is how much stuff is running all at once and how much processing time is going to be required for each area. (Trust me. I did Military combat in Second Life and it wasn't unusual for bullets to travel through walls, people to be killed because of lag-related instances, and of course with the most recent release of the game, the well known "Wall of Bullets" that would be created because of WAY too many things going on within a battlefield and causing bullets to pause during mid battle. They would resume after a short while and anyone unlucky enough to be out in the open would be obliterated. It's not fun, trust me... if you die in lag in that game, you crash).

I agree with the Elephant thing. I was a bit upset that they decided to add that into Halo 3's Sand Trap match and have it in that Halo Wars game, but then exclude it from Reach. Why weren't there any Elephants fighting during the battle of Reach? One other vehicle I would like to see added... is the Hawk from Halo Wars. Obviously not as overpowered (as in removing the gauss canon to have just a machine-gun turret or something), but make it so only one person can use the hawk at a time and there can't be multiple people on the Hawk. The main reason I want the Hawk implemented is in those cases where in Co-Op Campaign, if you get team members that grab both the Falcons and fly away to do stupid stuff (like hijack banshees), you and the other remaining team mate aren't standing around waiting for evac because you can only have two Falcons during the mission. So if the Hawk were there, players without intelligent Falcon pilots could actually continue with the game. The Scarab might be a little overpowered. I can see the Scarab as being an objective where players need to plant a bomb in the Scarab to destroy it while it's under constructions, while giving the defending team the ability to fire the Scarab's main gun between recharges... but not as a drivable vehicle. The Elephant was just absolutely awesome. The only problem in Halo 3 was that it couldn't be destroyed in matchmaking... so if they want to implement it back into Halo 4 Matchmaking, they should make it destroyable. Obviously it should take more damage than, say, a Scorpion tank... but it should still have the option of being destroyed... and also make it a bit faster. Driving that thing was a little pointless because it moved like a scorpion with engine problems... as in really, really slow. Just a moderate increase to make it a threat if it becomes destroyable... that way if it's destroyable and it's got some speed to it, people don't see it as completely useless. If it moved the same speed it does in Halo 3 but was destroyable, I don't think anyone would use it.

Hey everyone, I'm not really sure how Call of Duty's games work (since I'm not a fan of the series), so please don't condemn me with this post because of any similarities you see with that game or the series. I saw in another thread how someone was upset with the idea of making weapons be customizable because it would relate too much to CoD4 or something. Well, how about this idea?: Just like how in Halo: Reach, players can customize the look of their armor, but when you're in-game, those changes don't effect the actual game. You're all basically just generic Spartans with the same hit points (as in locations, not health) that anyone next to you has, except that appearance-wise, you're more shiny. So in Halo 4, why not give players the options to add upgrades to their DMRs, for example? The upgrades would be just like the armor - they wouldn't effect the actual gameplay, but players could have more stuff on their guns to match their interests (such as snipers being able to have, say, red sniper view screens instead of green, or DMR users having a laser sight). Really I don't know how these would all work out and it would probably take some tweaking, but I know the community probably doesn't like the idea of having weapon customizations that can change the game's outcome. Again, I'm not sure what the community thinks since I don't play Call of Duty, but I'm pretty sure some people might like to have some 'weapon upgrades' that are just personal and don't effect the game itself. Thoughts?

Being a person that's worked on machinima / helped others with machinima, written a number of stories and reviews, and even done a fair share of text-based role play... writing is a skill of mine. As for the ideas for challenges... I'm a critic that will only offer criticism if I have ideas on how to fix the issue (as seen in my complaint about the Armor Lock AA). I never just say "This issue sucks, so fix it", I provide reasons and ideas on how to find a solution. This is also why I don't get intimidated by these kinds of statements on my Youtube videos. I once asked someone to elaborate on the issues with the video by saying "'This Sucks' doesn't offer me any information. Can you give me some constructive criticism?" and the guy replies with, "There was no constructive criticism to give! It f****** sucked!" ... Constructive criticism is when you say what the issue is, why you don't like it, and offer some ideas on how to fix the issue. Saying a movie sucks, then not giving reasons why or solutions is just trolling. So yeah, when I write stuff related to fixing challenges, AA, etc. I offer solutions too.

Personally, I'm pretty peeved with the Blue Flame thing with Bungie. Why? When Halo: Reach was released, I was standing in line on opening night to get my copy and my brother's copy. Both of us pre-ordered, but my brother had High School and I knew going to Gamestop during the day would be murder... so I figured I'd go get the game for him. HOWEVER, when I got the games, Gamestop told me they were having issues with the code, so I should give them my email address so they can send me the code when they get the problem fixed. - A week later, I call them up and say "Hey, it's been a week and I haven't gotten my pre-order code yet", then Gamestop tells me "Sorry, no codes are left." - So I pre-ordered and I didn't get the pre-order armor? Lame. I tried contacting Bungie about it, but of course... I had no real way to prove it to them unless Gamestop would have somehow saved the piece of paper where everyone wrote down their information. So Bungie screwed me on that part. I did get the Recon helmet, but I thought that was for Overnight purchases only... NOT EVERY DAMN COPY, so Recon isn't special now. On the Bungie Day event, I clicked the button like 50 times to get the blue flame. It never worked, so I waited a day and did the 50-click thing again and still never got the flame. I don't have an iPhone, so I couldn't use an app... so I just kept clicking and clicking and clicking. So when the Blue Flame event ended... and I still didn't have the blue flame... well, you can imagine I was pretty angry about that. So yeah, Bungie screwed me over on two occassions where I could get limited items for dedicated players. Thanks for the player support, Bungie!

That was my intention. I don't like doing the same old stuff that everyone else does.

I'm kinda getting to the point where I'm terrified of being banned from credit earnings on Reach myself. If the server sees you idling during games, it counts it against you. Lately, however, if I'm in a matchmaking game with someone who is idling, then after the game... it will send me to the lobby with the message "Your party leader is marked as away" or some such and I often say to myself out loud, "... But I'm right here..." It's putting me on edge because I don't want to get banned, but I never idle in games. What's the point? I like to raise my commendation levels so I can get more credits... and idling doesn't help with that.

Hmm... Why not make challenges that open people's interests to other game types? Things like... "Complete 10 rounds of Classic Halo in Matchmaking". "Kill 20 survivors in Living Dead". "Capture the flag in Team Objective". "Earn 15 kills in Big Team Battle". "Kill 5 opponents with the Spartan Laser" <- I don't think I've ever seen a Spartan Laser challenge. "Successfully complete "The Package" on Legendary Co-Op Matchmaking without dying while having your shoe laces tied together, a lobster clinging to your nose, and a creepy salesman standing behind you while breathing down your neck." <- Too much?

I disagree. As I said in another post, each armor ability has its ups and downs... and here's a list of the most obvious pros and cons for each: Sprint: Pro - Fast rushing ability for a short period of time. Con - Cannot shoot while sprinting. Evade: Pro - Can jump to the side / forward / backwards twice per charge to quickly avoid a rocket, or plasma grenade or some such. Con - Doesn't last quite as long as the other abilities. Cloak: Pro - Scrambles radar and you become invisible. Con - Also scrambles your radar and if you move too fast or fire, you become visible. Hologram: Pro - You can distract enemies and trick them into thinking you are the real one for a brief period of time. Con - It takes a while to recharge and can only be used once per recharge. Bubble Shield: Pro - Heals anyone inside the bubble and also provides protection against any outside attacks for a period of time. Con - If you get surrounded, or the shield takes too much damage, then you are an easy target. Also cannot block vehicles from charging on through. Jet Pack: Pro - Can get to higher locations with ease while also raining down bullets on opponents. Con - If you jet pack too high and run out of the ability, you can fall to your death or at least take a ton of damage. Armor Lock: Pro - You are invincible for a short period of time. Con - You are immobile and people can gather around you for a quick kill. So each ability has its downfalls... and Jet Pack is no different than any of the other abilities. There's nothing to fix... you just need to look up more often.

Personally, I think if you want to have a custom helmet... draw a picture of it (high detail - don't rush it) and post it here. Maybe 343 will see your idea and agree that they like it and maybe it will be in the game. That's about as good as you can do, in my opinion. Just don't be ridiculous. Don't add stuff like demon horns or fangs. Think of your Spartan Helmet like an advanced modern-day soldier's helmet... what would the military allow on an upgraded helmet?
-
Sure I totally agree with this. I get tired of seeing the same old gray Forerunner objects in Halo: Reach. Halo 3 had much more to work with, but Reach gives much less... which is irritating. I also agree with this. Not so much for gameplay reasons... but those of us who like to make Machinima often need to use some great editing software in order to get things like Rain effects. It would be nice if we could just automatically have that. I don't agree with this one. Being someone that works with 3D Modeling (very basic level), Blood can be either a particle or a texture... and having too many of either in one map / area can really, really lag the game even if everyone has a green connection. No, you shouldn't. Anyone who has ever played Gary's Mod would know just how bad this can get. If you go onto Gary's Mod and set the game so that bodies don't disappear upon death... then you spawn like 50 zombies that respawn after death, but their bodies don't disappear, it will lag your computer so badly that you will crash after a few seconds. Imagine that on an Xbox... red ring of death anyone? I would like to have the ability to also spawn The Flood or regular Covenant AI for games... but ultimately, Campaign is integrated into co-op matchmaking for a reason. I think trying to place AI-controlled units would be too difficult for the players to understand, what with all the scripting that's attributed to each unit. (Such as setting Grunts as allies if you're covenant, or making it so the Flood are passive... by default, these cases are not true and you'd need to set them manually, which can't be done unless you have a PC editing tool like what Starcraft has with Starcraft 2 Map Editor (where you can edit scripts)).

What is your first reaction to someone T-Bagging you?
GrayForce replied to Screech's topic in Halo Reach
I do that when I get assassinated. I often yell, "Halp! I'm being raepd!" -
Trophies. Also, not full sized helmets. Obviously they would have to break the back of the helmets (cut them in half or whatever) to make them a suitable size for shoulder pads. Wearing full helmets on their shoulders would be like wearing the Security shoulders that Spartans have in Reach.
-
This is an idea I've talked to a bunch of my friends about and have received some pretty good responses, but I'd like to see what the greater Halo community thinks of this idea. As we all know (or those of us that have Reach), the Elites don't really have a great choice of armors and they can't change shoulder pieces, helmets, etc. to have really unique appearances. This is something I hope will change in Halo 4 if Elites are an option for players to choose as an Online appearance (which they should. This late into the franchise, removing Elites as a playable Matchmaking character would be a dumb move for those that like being Elites). So then, as I was preparing to enter Co-Op Matchmaking on Reach, I was looking at the picture available for that playlist... and it looked like Cat's helmet was on Carter's shoulder... which immediately gave me this idea: Give Elite players the option to have deceased Spartans' helmets as their shoulder pads. Now I'm not what you might call a genius when it comes to Halo lore... but I know the common quote, "Spartans never die... they just go missing in action", and I'm sure every Marine in the UNSD knows this quote too. So imagine being a Marine on the battlefield, then you see an Elite appear with a sword... then he comes rushing at you, but as he gets closer, you see a Mark V helmet on his left shoulder with what looks like a blade cut through the visor, and an Air Assault helmet on his right shoulder with needles from a Needler jammed through the top of the helmet. He'd be wearing Spartan helmets on his shoulders as trophies. I don't know about you guys, but if I saw that Elite rushing towards me on the battlefield, I'd wet myself. (My brother's response was, "I wouldn't **** with that guy"). I don't know what role the Elites will have in Halo 4... but I know that Halo 4 is after the Elites made peace with the Humans. In any case, in Matchmaking, I think people are more interested in what looks cool on their choice of character (spartan or elite), not what's realistic in lore. I could be wrong, but I think a lot of people would agree that wearing Spartan helmets as a sign of victory over Spartans would be really awesome. Someone told me that this reminds them of Predators from that movie "Predators" and how they would use skulls as their trophies. It's not that different with what I'm suggesting here... just that it's Elites killing Spartans, not Predators killing Arnold Schwarzeneggers. Thoughts? Opinions? Criticism?

What is your first reaction to someone T-Bagging you?
GrayForce replied to Screech's topic in Halo Reach
It really depends on the game, in my opinion. If someone T-Bags me in Co-Op Campaign or Firefight, it's just stupid. If it happens in a deathmatch of some kind, I see it as childish (because they could be doing other things, like hunting other players) and I generally see it as being a poor sport. However, if it's that Living Dead game, I think it's like a tradition where all the zombies t-bag the last man standing. So in that case, I think it's totally acceptable xD -
Yeah, I know. I thought I was a spam bot at first too. Hello everyone, I'm a brand new member. Isn't that great?! Not really, but hey, enjoy the freshness while it lasts. Having a new member in a forum is just like buying a new car... it smells great for a little while, but then it slowly goes away with all the fast food you're dropping on the floor in your back seat. So enjoy the fresh smell while it lasts. I'm going to go take a shower now. Or am I? But seriously, hi.
