I will be beyond disappointed.
First let me tell you all who I am. I am 20 years old and have been around video games all my life. I have such a strong feeling on the topic of what the Halo 4 ranking system needs to be that I signed up to preach it.
Although I have recently been just playing SNES roms, the video game series that I play are COD, Madden, Gears, Assassins Creed, GTA, and of course Halo. I have been playing Halo CE since 02. Halo 2 got me into competitive gaming. I started playing Halo 2 when I was 13 years old and I can honestly say those were my favorite days competiting with all my efforts to rank up in Snipers, Slayer, and Big team battle. Yes halo 2 was tough to level up in but thats what made it so great. I ended up with a 43 in snipers(1 game away from a 44!!! damn i wish i got a quarter moon), a 40 in slayer, and a 36 in big team battle. I achieved these ranks by making friends over XBL and networking to find great teammates. I also got into MLG and learning how to BXR and Double shot and other MLG techniques made me into a better player.
And although it was short lived, the H2 communtity FFA playlist (i think thats what it was called) was really fun. I got to a 22 i believe and I actually beat strongside in a game (he was on final boss at the time) as well as play other pros and semi pros.
There was a huge competitive sniper community in which I had many friends (and enemies!!) which made for great games when we matched in the playlist or in custom MLG or FFA games. The competitiveness and fast paced action of Halo 2 is something I will never forget and I just wish someday a Halo game will be created to be somewhere close to that. I am still great friends with many of these people today and will most certainly be playing Halo 4 with them.
That being said, Halo 3 was not Halo 2 but it still made for a great time. Ranking up in Halo 3 was much easier but it still made for somewhat of a challenge to get a 50. I got a 50 in slayer pretty easily, a 50 in doubles extremely easily (lost like 3 games total), a 50 in snipers very easily (the experience of halo 2 snipers playing with the best people made this a piece of cake, though I wish it wasnt so easy), and a 50 in BIG TEAM BATTLE( Yeah thats right. This was one thing that was extremely difficult to accomplish. I have great friends on XBL who are all very good and we played some people along the way that kicked our butts but we just kept fighting. One of my friends actually got his 50 in big team before any other playlist so when they removed big team [WHICH I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY PEOPLE PLAY TEAM SLAYER, BIG TEAM BATTLE IS THE BEST PLAYLIST!!!!] so he had a 50 in nothing visible in the playlists. Pretty funny ).
MLG in Halo 3 went to the next level. I formed a team with 3 friends and I cant lie, we were pretty damn good. We played a few pros and semi pro teams and held our own, winning a game here and there. Things didnt work out and we never made it to an event and broke up but i still continued to play customs and the playlist and got pretty good.
So why did I just tell you about my life as a Halo gamer? To tell you guys and to ask of you 343 industries to make a ranking system in Halo 4 that keeps a competitive gamer like myself addicted for years!! I see these reviews for Halo reach online saying its "the best halo yet". HA!! Let me clear this up. If Halo reach had halo 2 or 3's ranking system, I would say maybe. There is no drive for me to try in Reach. I just recently started playing again because I have nothing better to play and it is just too easy. I got an Inconceiveable the other day on a Forge world map in big team battle. I didnt even know that existed. Yes the game has the graphics and the new engine and all this other wonderful things that attract casual gamers but there is nothing that attracts a competitive gamer. I have a thirst for playing the best, and whether I win or lose, I am always looking to get better.
If I want to play with no consequences of losing and just kill as many people as I want, I play COD. I have a 2.15 K/D ratio in MW3 and I am not even good compared to some of my halo friends that play COD. By making this Halo reach ranking system similar to COD, it has attracted more people to buy the game. But who should you care more about?
Ok to be fair there was a lot of cheating in Halo 2 because self conscious kids need to cheat to get a high level so they can show off and pretend they are good. Not having levels does eliminate that. But come on, even if they found a way to cheat in Halo 4 it could be patched within a few days. My point is that you should not care about these people and you should care about people who are actually good at the game.
I just hope many of you on these forums can relate to what I am saying here. And even if you are not very good at Halo and can openly admit that, if you have any sort of brain you would understand that by making the game more competitive it will give you a much better gaming experience.
