As long as 343 has a ranked system based on winning then I'm fine. I think you have a great idea man. It's not too different from the 1-50 ranking system but has just enough tweaks in it to be refreshingly different. Well done bro.

MLG's Killa_KC Posts His Thoughts on the Halo 4 Playtest
upton889 replied to Archangel Tyrael's topic in Halo 4
I do agree with on the shot registration in Halo Reach. It is better but the accuracy was a joke compared to Halo 2 and 3. In my opinion the shots that didn't register in Halo 3 was much less than the number of headshots that don't count in reach. Seems like with Reach it's so common for that to happen and in Halo 3, shots not registering was a very uncommon thing. -
A 1-50 ranking system (preferably like in Halo 2's but I liked Halo 3's for the most part also). That is all.

Can we have armor abilities without them being so central?
upton889 replied to YouHaveAProblem's topic in Halo 4
AGREED bro! Halo reach was just so different. It lacked that solid competitive gameplay that makes Halo so great. Especially Halo 2 and 3. In my opinion, no BR and the inconsistencies of the shooting system on reach was about 50% of the problem for me. The other 50% was armor abilities. I love the feel of an epic battle and armor abilities almost took that out of the equation. Jetpack or armor lock was the worst, so thank goodness they're getting rid of armor lock. But that was Halo Reach and I'm looking forward to Halo 4 now. I think 343 will make everything better for the gameplay! -
That's a great idea too. I would like to see a DLC pack with those aforementioned maps in my last comment along with user created maps. The community has ALWAYS been good about building maps ever since the first days of forge!
-
Agreed. The Halo banhammer is a continually improving thing and there is always room for improvement in that area.
-
After everything that that's been confirmed by 343, I just hope for soe classic throwback maps (Lockout, Midship, Guardian, The Pit, etc.), and if they aren't in the game itself maybe they 343 can make a DLC pack?? But my biggest hope is for Halo 4 to have a 1-50 ranking system (preferably similar to Halo 2's ranking system, knock on wood), along with the Spartan Points system. The 1-50 system just makes matchmaking SO exciting!

Agreed with you both. If they can implement armor abilities without affecting the overall gameplay, I'm game for it. In reach armor abilities just really took away that solid gameplay. Map control meant nothing because of armor abilities (and I agree with YouHaveAProblem, it was jetpack, most notably). I'm all for change if it's for the better and I realize 343 has to make changes. 343 did say that there is a counter to every armor ability now and they've said they don't want one dominant armor ability. It seems they're getting everything on a level playing field, which is the best thing to do. Halo 2 and 3 competition was so great because everyone started in the equal to each other. But yes, since they are including armor abilities I'm putting my trust in 343 to do it the right way and I think they will. Very excited for the game! -

As much as I love a challenge as well, I do enjoy the Halo 2 and 3 shot systems better than reach. If you give out accurate headshots so many times to another you should be rewarded for your all your accuracy with a kill, not the guy sprinting off no shields. I liked how the Halo 2 and 3 systems were more consistent. Not arguing with ya, but just sayin! -
That's what I was thinking before, out of everything that I've heard about but what Frank O' Connor said just confused me lol. Thanks much man.

Someone help me out here? So you can customize your loadout during the game? The default system he described sounds like the reach loadout system except catered for more competitive play (which sounds awesome by the way). I guess my main confusion is this statement If it doesn't take 8 weeks or however much amount of time to unlock a BR does that mean you unlock weapons in-game? I'm unclear on how it's a "customizable loadout." Thanks in advance.

I personally LOVED the soundtrack samples from the HaloWaypoint youtube channel. Definitely has that movie feel to it. Sounds awesome!

VERY helpful info! As long as the bloom doesn't affect the gameplay I'm fine. In reach the shot precision is just too inconsistent. Looking forward to Halo 4! -
Check my last reply bro. I think everybody is confusing the spartan point system (which is like reach's) with the actual online matchmaking. We've yet to see the online matchmaking system but I hope it's 1-50 as well.
-
The MLG players only got to play custom games at the VIP party. Not online matchmaking. I'm willing to bet the spartan points apply even to custom games. I expect the online matchmaking system is a completely seperate issue from what the MLG players got, considering they didn't play online.

343, I think you might get sued for copyright.....
upton889 replied to DerpWithAGun's topic in Halo 4
I don't think master chief's armor looks anything like the nanosuit. Just sayin. -
They should definitely make new ones as well as bring back the great throwbacks! I look forward to the new maps 343 has coming out and I'm glad to hear they're emphasizing competitiveness on the new ones!

The 1-50 win system was awesome in Halo 2 and 3 but the ranking system in Halo 2 was BY FAR the best. It was simple and showed everybody's TRUE skill. You win you go up, you lose you go down. Halo 3 was ok in this but I didn't enjoy how they made it more difficult for people to level up if they had more experience. How would the Halo 3 system judge true experience because people can make new accounts anytime they want? They should put in the 1-50 system as well as having credits, but credits should go towards the customization of LOOKS ONLY. The people who play more get more unlockable armor and vice versa. The people who win more increase in rank and vice versa. This would be the best way to go about it imo.
-
A lot of good ideas from the poll! I don't like fall damage because if the spartan is this extremely heavy super soldier why should a simple fall damage him? The BR has never been overpowered imo. Nothing should change about it unless it's looks. I definitely agree with you on #20 and armor should NOT affect gameplay! As far as the ban system goes I think it's fine the way it is but if a player is away from the controller they should be kicked from the game. Players purposely jumping off the map should be kicked after they jump off 5 times, or something like that. Just some ideas.
-
I agree with you guys completely. There IS a reason Midship, Lockout, etc. have been favorites for so long! These maps have some of the greatest battles and greatest gameplay. The DLC pack is a great idea! I feel like with Halo Reach the maps weren't well-designed for competition. Some of them almost seem too big for a typical 8 player game and some of them seem too... complex I guess. Like they tried to put too much into them. Too many hallways and too many levels to climb up to for each map. But I do enjoy Zealot and Countdown! Some of the best maps I've played on were the smaller maps and most of those had a simple and/or symmetrical design. I like to see great looks out of a map but as far as design goes, imo the more simple/symmetrical maps are the best ones!

Me personally I would LOVE to see 343 come out with reinvented great classic maps as well as the new ones they have that seem promising for competitive play. I would really like to see them come out with a polished Lockout, Midship, and Warlock from Halo 2 as well as Guardian, The Pit, and Construct from Halo 3. I wouldn't even ask 343 to reinvent these maps as they are perfect the way they are. Maybe add some new cosmetic details here and there. What do you guys think? What maps would you like to see back, as well as ideas for new Halo 4 maps?
-
And I agree, the ranking system isn't fully what makes Halo competitive, but it is a factor. Players ultimately produce the competition but the ranking system gives a little extra "boost" of motivation for a lot of players and it definitely makes the multiplayer more interesting.

If halo 4 doesnt sequal halo 3 and 2 gamplay.........................
upton889 replied to Pink Lemonade's topic in Halo 4
I get what you're saying. There's always gonna be those few weapons in the game that everybody knows are advantageous tho. That's unavoidable. -
Simply for the issue of keeping the game competitive as possible. When armor abilities and things of that nature get thrown in it takes away from the competitiveness because no player is on an equal basis with one another.

upton889 replied to Pink Lemonade's topic in Halo 4
Ms Mystic, while I completely respect you and your opinion, I have to both respectfully disagree and agree with you. It's always good to have a variety of weapons throughout the game, especially in single player. It would suck to have a boring game. But, for multiplayer everyone should be on an equal basis with each other in regards to what they have to work with, so that multiplayer can be as competitive as possible, and it's not so much the variety of weapons that is the problem. You can always opt to pick up another weapon in the map. What makes Halo multiplayer so effective and competitive (and what has got Halo to this point, honestly), is the competitiveness of the game and allowing a variety of SKILL to shine through to win the game by setting everyone equally (and winning is definitely fun as well, so I don't disagree with you on that) and not a variety of weapons and choices off spawn. People do use different weapons in the game but there are always going to those main weapons that mostly everyone likes to use. The BR and its widespread use played an intricate role in making Halo as competitive as it is. I see what you're saying and I look forward to discussing future topics with you.
