If this becomes anything like CoD perks I won't buy the game.

343, I think you might get sued for copyright.....

While I personally can't get into CoD, I think it's a good game. Here's the thing though. In almost every evolution from game to game within the CoD series, the games seem to stay the same or get better (except maybe blackops). I think this is something very valuable that can be taken away from this series. Do they every do something crazy and drastic that changes the mechanics of the game, not really. And THAT'S why people keep coming back. The game evolves, changes, but it's still the same game you love. 343, LEARN FROM THIS.

They should be purely aesthetic imo.

The focus rifle was a terrible idea. I'm all for new weapons being released for a new game, but don't replace awesome unique weapons for terrible weapons that don't play well.
-
I'm betting they will port it over, but there's no telling how long that will take.

I never assumed you were ignorant. Please keep in mind that you are not the only person that reads these forums and other people besides yourself may need an explanation.

When you say drastically different, I tend to disagree with you. At least from a competitive standpoint. I don't know how much you played halo 2, but if you played that game, you would find that there isn't a single element that could relate that game to CoD, other than the fact that they were both first person shooters. Now, look at reach and CoD. Going to the competitive standpoint again, so you don't have armor lock, invis, jetpack, etc. You have sprint, just like CoD. The gameplay itself has slowed down so that it's closer to the pace of CoD. Weapons have a bloom that increases the longer you fire, just like CoD. The height of the jump has been reduced so that it's closer to CoD's jump height (although maybe still a little bit higher). All of these changes essentially change the essence of what made halo. Halo used to be about crazy jump heights (which meant it took more skill to aim) and precision weapons with no bloom (which meant the person with more accuracy always won), and sprint gives people who know they've lost the fight a chance to escape before you can finish the fight. I'll take a quick second to briefly explain why bloom makes aiming take less skill in my opinion. Here we go. In Halo 2, there was pretty much no bloom. Sure, the smg and the plasma rifle had a spread to it, but it was a constant spread, not something that changed. It could be accounted for so you knew the exact distance you needed to be away from someone to kill them with either weapon. Now, let's say there was a fight between 2 people with BRs. You shoot me, and shoot you, whoever gets the most shots fist (whoever has better aim) wins. With reach you just shoot as fast as you can. You get this ridiculous spread. And whoever the random number generator happens to favor that day gets the lucky shot that hits the other guys head and wins the fight. So it's not always 100% who has better aim like it used to be. Now you might say that the better player would time their shots so the bloom never got very big and they could win with better aim. Well that's all well and good, but you haven't really thought this through. Let's say that palyer1 uses the previously mentioned strategy. They slow the rate of fire so that they can control the spread for the bullet. Now, player2 just fires as quickly as they can. The bloom for player 2 has now grown large enough that all of the next shots are not guaranteed to hit player1. But, they keep firing anyways, and with some luck they manage the headshot on player1 and score the kill. Now player1 has lost not because of weaker skill or aiming, but because he chose a strategy that takes the random number generator out of the question. If they both fire as fast as they can, then you get the first situation I mentioned, where both players are counting on the random number generator to let their bullet get the headshot and win the fight for them, instead of their aim winning the fight for themselves.

Now, while I have said repeatedly I don't like armor abilities, equipment is a whole different story. I don't care either way if they add it or not. The reason this doesn't make a big deal to me is because it doesn't impact competitive gameplay because they can simply be removed from all the competitive playlists or whatever. The problem with armor abilities is they are only removed from maybe 1 playlist, but still exists in things like team snipers where I feel that they shouldn't. Also, I feel like a lot of maps in reach where designed with abilities like the jetpack or sprint in mind so that when you remove those AA's, the map becomes a poor excuse to play on. This completely different from the way the map's design and equipment works together.

Well your sir seem to have all answers don't you? Let me start off by saying no one is higher on a horse right now than you. The guy was claiming he had multiple 50s because he wanted to speak from a competitive standpoint. He even states this so that there is no confusion, but you somehow missed this in the first line of his post. You can argue all you want about how other games affected Reach's release, and you're right! However, this doesn't mean that it didn't have dramatic shortcomings. Look at how low it has sunken as far as MLG is concerned. Also not an opinion.

I want halo 2 style dual wielding. Fast pace and exciting. Great combinations too.
-
They where interesting I'll admit, but I would have to say they didn't pan out well.
-
I think it looks pretty cool. Fresh take. I like the multiplayer armor too.
-
You are correct sir, and in my opinion the engine wasn't very good. ex.) All of the blurring effects and such in the multiplayer.
-
I'm with you OP. I'm excited that they said the multiplayer maps won't be recycled. Completely fresh arenas for multiplayer will be great. IF YOU GIVE US MAPS MADE FROM FORGE AND ACT LIKE THEY ARE ORIGINAL AND TOOK A LOT OF WORK WHEN THEY CLEARLY DIDN'T I WILL FIND YOU. Also, the campaign Easter eggs were great in halo 3. I agree with you there as well. I loved being able to activate all of the different skulls as well. I couldn't get through the first level of reach for all of the boredom. Sorry Reach. At this point I'm excited for pretty much everything from the vidoc they put out the other day except for sprint. If they would just remove that , I would be happier than a dog with a bone and tennis ball. As it stands now I'm madder than a midget with a yo-yo.

An overall credit system with rewards would be pretty cool. But then you could have very special rewards for the people with high ranks within playlists. I hope there is a playlist ranking system like halo 2.
-
Agreed. It was so fast pace back in Halo 2 it was crazy. The human sniper shot sooooo much faster, and the beam rifle would leave people on the floor before the enemy knew what hit them. Another reason I don't like the sprint ability. Give people an ability that allows them to move rapidly, but give them a sniper rifle that's slower. Yeah, that makes sense. People keep talking about tactics, well I'll share a little something. Those people never played halo 2. The weapons were so quick with the fire rate that you had to KNOW where the whole enemy team was or you would die the second you went out of cover. NOW all you have to do is sprint and you can duck and dive between cover with pretty much no risk, no tactics, callouts? no that important.
-
Oh man, this sounds great. I really like this idea.
-
The thing that I hate about sprint is that it removes a lot of risk from the game. Want to get across the map? No problem, just sprint there in spurts. Cornered in a room? No problem, just sprint around the corner and out the door before they can get enough shots off. I just don't like it.

If I were a betting man I'd say that it will most closely relate to Halo 3 customization.
-
More customization is always welcome in my opinion. I never really take advantage of it like other people, but I definitely know how much everyone else loves it. I think kinect could be cool if you could get it to work, but I think trying to get that to work probably wouldn't work out. It would most likely take a lot away from the development of the rest of the game.
-
So your justification that the games feels like halo is that it looks like halo. So if I a halo sticker on a CoD disk it would be halo. Okay, that makes sense. As far as the past halos being bad compared to reach. You are the minority on this one. I know multiple that don't dislike reach in the manner that I do, but never I had talked to someone in person that enjoyed the game more. Why do you think that halo has fallen off so much in MLG. The majority of people don't like the game as much.

That was addressed to another post. I will edit and clarify. My apologies.

I agree about the reach engine. In my opinion it was a total disaster. It didn't feel anything like a halo game. In fact if you just changed the visuals (make the weapons look different, make spartans look like normal troop soldiers, etc) I bet you wouldn't even know it was halo. Even the jumping height was completely different, it felt more like CoD.
