Halo Reach did not change "everything". If anything, Reach's problem was that it tried to keep classic Halo gameplay intact while changing a little bit...so you end up with a balless half assed change that is enough to annoy veterans and not enough to satisfy noobs. The point isnt to say that a full on change will inevitably be good...only to say that Reach's vulnerability wasn't that they changed too much but that they changed too little and that if you are going to progress a series beyond tired reiterations (like in CoD) you are going to end up sacrificing old gameplay for new. You cannot have your cake and eat it too, which is what Bungie tried to do with Reach.

1) Particle effects and "Physics" are far from being all that goes into "graphics". In fact, they are hardly the primary thing. 2) I really am wondering what you mean by CoD having superior "physics" considering it does not have any where near the number of moving non-character objects that Halo or BF have. 3) Compare the textures in the latest Black Ops II trailer with released Halo 4 gameplay. We can't judge the final product BOII based on this, needless to say, but you cannot see that the textures look a bit dated? 4) CoD unquestionably has had superior character models. Halo 4 seems to have caught up with them in that respect, though CoD has excellent facial rendering and character movement, so we have yet to see examples of those things in Halo (no video of non spartan characters with actual visible faces IE Cortana, and no examples of special animations other than standard movement). And I'm saying this as a big fan of Black Ops. I will definitely buy the sequel. And CoD has had superior graphics to its competitors for some time now. But the texture's...the complexity of the surfaces, probably the most easy part of graphics to analyze, seem to be falling behind in Black Ops II, based on what we saw in the trailer.

Halo 4, To Be Or Not To Be: First Person Vehicle Option?
VivaLebowski replied to DaveAtStateFarm's topic in Halo 4
If anyone who doesnt want FPS driving has not played BF3, I suggest you do so. If you have played BF and you still don't want FPS driving, then we can have that argument. FPS driving is not "more" effective than 3rd person. But it is allot funner and more immersive. And thats what counts. There should be a choice as in Battlefield, but FPS driving should definitely be in.- 37 replies

I felt like in Reach it was a stupid feature but it was balanced out by the fact that you could sprint with it and just murder fools...In Reach, if anything, in the right circumstances, I could kill even more people than in H3. That said, I hope they remove or at least severely restrict Sword blocking.

Anyone else think it should be named Halo: Requiem?
VivaLebowski replied to Mr. Bashful Brute's topic in Halo 4
Aint gonna say whats a better name or not...just gonna say, in terms of marketing ,its kinda essential that it be Halo 4. Its the fourth Halo in the proper series. Bungie specifically did not make Reach "Halo 4". They did not envision it as the game changing direct successor to Halo 3. Halo 4 is that successor. Also, 343 wants to evoke feelings of association with the Main trilogy and the Mr.Chief. A customer who's buying Halo 4 immediately knows "Hey, this is the fourth Halo game!". A customer buying "Halo: Requim" might be discouraged by the fact that he has to ask himself who/what is Requim? With Reach the problem is unavoidable beacuse you cannot apply a title like Halo -1 to a prequel, so they are forced to name it something like Halo Reach. -
I wasnt a huge dual wielding person but I can understand the pain...I certainly preferred Dual wielding to be in. Howevor, it is a good point that others have raised here...having Dual wielding complicates the weapon set. You end up with redundant weapons that are difficult to implement in the game. For example, do players start with dual wielding weapons? Do they function as they did in Halo 3 where you cannot throw a grenade without tossing one of them? What happens when you try to swap out for a different weapon? Ask any player who loves Dual wielding and you'll know that there is something appealing. I'm not a huge dual wielding person but even I know tha its nice and badass to wield two weapons at once. Plus, simple truth is, in CQC, with Dual Wields, you will win if your dual wields are at optimal range versus. say a AR at optimal range. They are pretty decent in the right format.

Call to Arms!!! Community Awareness and Healing!!!!!
VivaLebowski replied to Twinreaper's topic in Announcements
I'm going to be a bit of a contrarian and say: 1) That to the extent that any real or percieved idiocy and bitchiness and all around stupid shenanigans are resulting from problems with regards to the direction Halo is taking, espiecally now that 343 is in control, I'll say that no amount of high minded "lets all come togethor and sing kumbaya" is going to solve that. Whats going to end it, one way or another, is when Halo 4 and subsequent titles actually come out and one way or another, these divisive issues will settle simply beacuse one side will have won out over another and there will be nothing more to fight about. Put simply, issues and schisms and declines in the quality of the community that are a result of the game itself are only going to be resolved by the game itself. Its also worth pointing out that our collective opinions matter and that we should neither complain about everything 343 does or blindly have faith that they will produce an awesome game. Halo 4 is best served by us having these arguments and to the extent that the community is "divided" and "bickering" over these issues...well thats just unfortunate but neccasary collateral damage. 2) No doubt theres allot of stupid **** to be had that has nothing to do with Halo coming from newer members. On the same hand, Wouldn't be surprised, frankly, if old community members resent new Community members. Bottom line is, ****ty internet behavior is here to stay and I say we just do our best to ignore it, have a bit of fun and remind oursleves that none of this is really that important. 3) Its all well and good that we have a thread about "reforming" our behavior...but as nearly as I can tell this will be about as effective as few American's coming togethor and talking about "Ending Obesity!". Real change that involves a whole community of individuals comes organically...not at the flick of a switch resulting from a few members coming togethor and saying "yeah...thats right! We should do that!" 4 and Lastly...its my thesis that the thing which gives the Halo community its vitality is *surprise* Halo. In my mind, Halo 3 was the high point...some people will certainly and reasonobly think Halo 2 and even Halo CE were Halos finest hours respectively. But my point is, I think theres a relationship between how bad (relatively speaking, all the Halo games have been great just some less than others) the current iteration of Halo is and the strength and fun of the community is. So I say, the thing which will truly "reform" this community is if Halo 4 kicks ass. As you may have noticed, I don't think thats inevitable. Even if Halo 4 is "great" it could easily fail to be as good as we need it to be. I think Reach was good...but in a deeper sense it was a failure. It did not deliver. And I think the community reflects that. And the sad truth might be that Halo might be in its Twilight, that we are polishing the brass on the Titanic...etc. etc. *post another cliche reference about people getting along while things are in decline*. And if thats the case, then the community will decline and fade slowly, as is the way of all things (profound!). BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT point is...don't worry about it (At least not too much). Theres plenty of laughs and interesting arguments and stupid but amusing things to be said in the meantime, even if we are headed to hell in a handbasket. Rather Halo 4 fails to revive the community or is Halos new Sunrise, we shouldnt worry about it cuz its not in our hands. Its in 343's and God's hands. And I think since the community is a direct reflection of how strong the franchise is, my point is, just dont think about it. Focus on ironing out Halo 4's issues as best we can as members of the community and play our small role in making the final product better beacuse ultimately, thats the best thing we can do for "improving" the community. So pretty much...long story short...from what I've seen in my two months or so here thus far...we got a real nice community going here. Even if the whole community is sinking, well I'm pretty sure we are on the highest point of the ship. So dont worry too much about the "decline" of the community. PS. The two problem groups are idiots and over zealous perfectionist idiots as Doc highlighted. Idiots arent going away, but I bet overly competive uber-MLG types will figure out that Halo does not belong to them and that 343 doesnt really care what they think...in about 6 Months from now. -
That is correct good sir. But not me. I'm a straight up ****.

Pennsylvania has fallen to the EBA and Delaware! Additional MBT's and Minefield in the Chesapeake Bay completed. Using production slots to build 5 more MBT's, and 4 F-18's (using 2 production slots). Doc, your submarine can return to the main battle group. No resistance was encountered in Pennsylvania. I would like to request a full transfer of my two Missile Cruisers over to your control as commander of the naval task force in exchange for 5,000 of your 25,000 infantry. I'm rather short handed in the Infantry department. Current EBA Territories: Florida (Doc) Penn. (Viva) Del (Viva). EBA Battlegroup: 1 Submarine, 2 Destroyers, 3 Missile Cruisers. Current Delaware Unit Totals: -6,000 Militia -4,000 Paratroopers -6 Coastal Defense Batteries -6 Guided Missile AA Batteries -1 B-2 Stealth Bomber -2 B-52 Bombers -2 AC-130 -2 C-130 Transports -2 Warthog Ground attack planes -12 F-22 Raptors. -10 Abrams MBT's -2 Missile Cruisers Currently flying my F-22's around Western Alliance Airspace in Virginia and over Kentucky, controlled by Nova.

Full intelligence on navigatable routes through mine fields has been given to Doctor. Any EBA Naval units, regardless of ownership, are clear to enter the bodies of water surrounding Delaware.

I have no idea how many of you guys no or care but info on the upcoming sequel to relics WW2 RTS Company of Heroes (its called Company of Heroes 2, imagine that) was leaked by a User on NeoGaf who got a PC gamer mag early. It will revolve around Soviet troops fighting the Germans on the Eastern Front. I'm not gonna venture an opinion on what happened here or how justified you are beacuse I dont know what happened. Could someone give us some exposition on what exactly happened here? I get that he was demoted and it might have had something to di with the Youtube account but is there anything more to it than that? I'm not going to say Im sorry your leaving beacuse honestly I don't know you. Would be curious to see what happened here though.

MBT and Minefield Production completed. Producing 5 More MBT's and placing Mines in the Chesapeake Bay. Once they are completed any and all Naval Battlegroups will have to spend a day removing the Minefields beacuse all Ocean access to Delaware is covered. Half way done siege of Pennsylvania. Will be in control by tommorrow at 10, placing a total of 3 states under the EBA (and 2 states under the Free Republic of Delaware).

Ive got a question though...have you been credit banned? Banned from matchmaking in general? If so, why? Secondly, what system would you implement that would be better? Also, I'm pretty sure other games do implement bans.

Ive been standing up for Black Ops II against rabid CoD haters but how do you figure those graphics beating Halo 4? If anything the graphics look worse than MW3. I don't mind particularly but the textures and lighting are not very advanced looking to my amatuer assessment...H4 looks like its pushing Halos engine as far as it can go on the other hand.
-
This seems like a really good idea actually.

I don't think Halo simply going back to simply what made it good in the past would allow it to reassert its dominance. Basic truth is 343 could make an excellent Halo game by completely going back to halos past, with graphical updates of course...but its not going to succeed financially beacuse unlike CoD, there is not a huge enough fan base for that kind of game right now. I don't believe Halo has to be dumbed down and I think you can make a good game with gamers tastes being what they are currently...but its a minefield and no mistake. Nontheless, in order to try to be successfull 343 has to push forwards rather than looking backwards.

I am and always will be an Elite Player...but I'm no fanatic neither. Plus I bet Elites will be back in some form or another...certainly seems like they are going to keep playing a big part in the universe.
