..Sort of. Half-Life 3 was never in fact confirmed by Valve, but instead, it has been assumed for years that “Ricochet 2″ has been the code name for the next Half-Life installment.
Recently, Gabe Newell, managing director and co-founder of Valve, sat down with another blogging site for a rather long podcast. In the podcast Newell touches on upcoming titles we have been waiting for such as CS:GO and, naturally, the future of Half-Life, or Ricochet 2.
When asked about the release of Ricochet 2, Newell laughed and replied,” In terms of Ricochet 2, we always have this problem that when we talk about things too far in advance. We end up changing our minds as we’re going through and developing stuff, so as we’re thinking through the giant story arc which is Ricochet 2, you might get to a point where you’re saying something is surprising us in a positive way and something is surprising us in a negative way, and, you know, we’d like to be super transparent about the future of Ricochet 2.”
Coming from the top down, the doors stay closed so to speak. Is this really an acceptable way to adress not only consumers but fans of the series? Would you rather have a release date be pushed back time and time again or is this transparency the way to go? The wait has been going on for almost five years now, ever since the Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was released. How much longer are you willing to wait?
