  1. I have seen a lot of threads recently begging for a Halo 2 Anniversary Edition. I am for one horrified by the idea that 343i might come in an stomp all over (arguably) the best game ever made. Here's why they shouldn't touch Halo 2. 1. The multiplayer wouldn't be what we remembered 2. The graphics don't need to get upgraded (suprised nobody says this) 3. Game was partially known for glitches (they would probably be removed) Now let me expand upon the biggest one for me. The prospect of bringing back Halo 2 multiplayer and introducing all of the newer features to it disgusts me. Halo 2 is known for one thing and halo 4 is known for one thing. When a game (H2) is built around key game-play features it is obviously not going to play the same way when different ones are introduced. If there's one thing I don't want to do it's play Halo 2 with Halo 4 features. It would ruin my memories of Halo 2 forever. The second point I made that I'm surprised nobody has mentioned earlier is that the graphics don't even need to be improved. Open both of the spoilers below to see the comparison. Halo CE had way worse graphics. There was a significant reason to remaster it. Part of that reason was also to show how far graphics had come since early xbox to late Xbox 360. There is no significant need for a Halo 2 remake. This is Halo CE This is Halo 2 The third point I made is not as important but it is still important. Part of the nostalgia, at least for me, was some of the glitches and unbalanced features present in the game. Any competitive multiplayer map will have the superbounces removed which arguably was a lot of fun in the Halo 2 days. Also I would expect a Sword nerf which would have a serious effect on how much I enjoy Lockout. Well this was just my two cents. Sorry to be swimming against the current but that is honestly how I feel about this issue.
  2. Where is this confirmed??? I've searched everywhere but I can't find anything on it.
  3. - New Minecraft 360 developments - SteamBox stuff - This whole Virgin Gaming MLG deal is gonna be important if it happens but I don't think there's any news on it yet - Halo
  4. Playdate fail
  5. When I'm not interested in any of the newer games and am bored of the older games what I do is go to Gamestop and get some of the older games for a very heavily reduced price. Fore example I haven't ever played any of the Mass Effect games but because I have heard such good things about them and they are very cheap now that they have been out for so long... I may go and buy them this week. I suggest the Dead Space series if you have not already played it. Dead Space 1 and 2 were very fun and scary survival horror games and they are available for around 20$ each at stores or on the internet. Plus with the release of Dead Space 3 around the corner there isn't a better time to get immersed in the story. However if that's not for you I would definitely recommend Dishonored, Assassins Creed 3, and Minecraft 360 as great games with good replay value to tide you over until the next big release that you are interested in.
  6. First thing that I'd like to say before making any comments is that you have obviously put an incredible amount of time and thought into this thread and it really shows. These types of quality posts are what makes these forums so fun and interesting for members like me. So thank you for taking the time to get all of you thoughts out so clearly and logically Now when I read your thread several things really popped out at me. In one part you mention the Dead Space series. As a huge Dead Space fan I think that perhaps I can give a little more perspective on how the franchise used it's environments to expand the story. Throughout that game there was an obvious immense consideration to detail. Littered throughout both of the games were numerous references to corporations and companies present in the universe, posters to strip clubs and local stores, as well as apartments and other genuinely necessary locations to daily life on the ship. These all gave an incredible feeling of immersion and really benefited storytelling. Also another thing they did that was really neat was the Audio Log system that they implemented. They were very fun to collect and listening to them really added to the sense of time in the environment. You get a feeling of what life was like before the infection, at the start of the infection, and shortly after the infection. In Halo 4 there are vast and detailed forerunner structures present but I'm not left wondering what they were used for or what happened in them. Perhaps if 343i took a lesson from the Dead Space series (as well as games like Dishonored and Assassins Creed) they could greatly improve the storytelling of their next game. Provide a sense of mystery with the environments but give brief glimpses of the past. If they did this then it would really work to breath some life into their game. I mean we are left with amazing vistas and architecture like that posted below but it takes the use of Google to find out more about them. Great thought provoking thread OP
  7. Those wonderful days where you are able to find 5-6 paragraphs worth of information for the most trivial or specific thread. Quality Posting rampage FTW

  8. The Light Rifle actually has some pretty impressive balance on it if you really look at it from a logical standpoint. Let me make a small little bullet list to expand upon. Kills quickest when scoped kills slowest when not scoped Has lower aim assist So in theory it is a very situation dependent weapon. It fills a very specific niche within the precision weapons arsenal. It's increased kill rates at longer distances allow it to dominate the other weapons at those ranges. Granted you could still lose the battle if you don't have the skill to make up for the lowered aim assist. On paper, if you can make up for the aim assist nerf then you can easily win at the longer distance battles. The trap that you and many others are probably falling in to is that they try and bring the Light Rifle up to the front lines of the battlefield and engage in BR, DMR, and Carbine wielding opponents in close range strafing battles. The problem with that is that it really benefits the DMR user to play un-scoped. The Light Rifle doesn't have the stopping power to compete effectively without being scoped and when scoped have trouble keeping up with the enemy as far as strafing and shooting is concerned. My suggestion to you is to try and use the Light Rifle at a further distance. Don't put yourself in a position where you have to play un-scoped as that is a significant handicap to the Light Rifle. If you have to fight un-scoped then perhaps you could pack a sidearm that could compliment that play style. I'm not entirely sure but I believe the Magnum is actually pretty competitive against both the DMR and the BR in those 1v1 gunfights. Also you could pack grenades to try and thin the enemy's shields out and give your Light Rifle such a head start as far as damage is concerned that it cannot lose (hopefully). If all else fails then you could try the Firepower package as that would allow you to carry another primary weapon out into battle. That way you could have an Assault Rifle to compliment your Light Rifle. The Light Rifle is actually very balanced and 343i has provided the effective means to minimize it's weaknesses. It's just a matter of finding a loudout that works for you and sticking with it.

  10. You have a knack for posting incredibly interesting or thought provoking threads RedRocket In answering this question I'd have to say that this is very situation dependent. I almost always go with the BR as that fills the need the vast majority of the time. I recently watched a Halo 4 Mythbuster's video where they demonstrated that it is possible to get three headshots with a single burst of the BR. I think that that explains its general usefulness right there. At ranges where it's questionable accuracy is not a serious problem the BR gives the player three different opportunities to make it's mark and result in the death of your foe. Though one must consider the vast expanses present on Complex and Abandon. I find that those maps (as well as Solace sometimes) suggest that I use the DMR. The longer ranges render the BR's lower accuracy to be more of a handicap and I find that it is better to use the DMR. The BR and Magnum are just too likely to miss at that range and the surefire accuracy of the DMR is more reliable choice for those type of maps. I previously hadn't considered the Magnum to be a very viable choice for competitive SWAT gameplay... but after GSD finished wrecking me in a match of 1v1 using only the Magnum I had to give it a closer look. Upon further study I made an amazing discovery... The Magnum doesn't actually give any discernible advantage in any facet of gameplay (please correct me if I'm wrong) and I just got annihalated by GSD because he was insanely better than me at Halo in general. What an incredible discovery. Yeah my vote went to the BR... but that doesn't mean that the DMR is out of the equation for me.
  11. Well that's probably one of those things where it is easier if you don't think about it. However, there are several different styles of play that will benefit you on your quest to mastering the assist commendation. ~ BTB anti vehicle role has the opportunity to get massive amounts of assists. Let's say you put a significant amount of damage on a vehicle that later is killed by a teammate... you get assists for that. I suggest carrying a Plasma Pistol so that you can EMP the vehicles as well as plasma nades and a DMR for those long range battles. ~ Staying away from playlists where there is little to no opportunity to get assists. (SWAT) ~ I'm not positive on this one but isn't there a heightened chance to get assists when you play FFA playlists. I suggest playing Regicide to give this a little test (or maybe someone else can confirm/deny it). I believe that because of the chaos of the gametypes it is more likely for somebody to come along and take your kill. ~ Me thinks that the strategic placement of the Auto-Sentry AA in a densely populated area might result in a large accumulation of assists. 12. I do sometimes find myself really missing the armor from Halo Reach. I wasn't a fan of the whole credit system... but I really enjoyed the quality of the armor and the varying different styles.
  13. Well I think I'll start off by saying welcome to the 343i Community Forums. We like to think that it is our little corner of the internet... shrouded from the perils other communities have to deal with on a constant basis. I can already tell by the quality and how indepth this post is that you will be a valuable member to this site I've read this whole thread and could not agree more. Almost all games in Matchmaking are largely dependent upon having a good start and you really smashed the nail on the head when you were talking about that. As a friendly example I always have a good start on Haven in Team Regicide (different style of play I know) where I use jetpack and mobility to efficiently secure Sticky Detonator. From there I can take a plethora of different routes and strategies but it definitely gives my team a chance to make a bold move right in the beginning of the game. Dominion is no different. One thing that I like to do when trying to make a strong start via securing a weapon is to use Jetpack and Mobility. Because of the vast distances that you will often have to cover in Dominion matches as well as the myriad of different elevations that you will have to scale, this combo allows you to get to some of the weapons and vehicles before the enemies can even get in a position to lay down suppressing fire. (Granted you're an exceptional Halo Free runner xD) One thing that you didn't really touch on that is a very valid gamechanger for some players is the effect vehicles have on Dominion matches. Specifically the Banshee and Ghost. Because of the typical layout of dominion maps the ghost and banshee allow for quuck and easy access to the different locations of interest. If a ghost pilot can use their superior agility and speed to thin the enemies ranks even a little then that it a HUGE bonus for people defending and attacking objectives. Once again welcome to the forums. If you ever need to know anything feel free to PM me
  14. Fixed that for you. Wouldn't want anybody getting the wrong impression because of a little typo.
  15. Looking on the forums these past few days a lot of news has surfaced about the Valve Steambox and stuff like the Piston Xi3. It appears that a lot of people don't fully understand what it is, what it will be, or what it will do. Recently I saw a pretty good info roundup on the thing and decided that it would surely make better sense of it than I ever could. The Steambox will run Linux' date=' but the OS can switch fairly easily to Windows. [*']Valve wants to make the controller more responsive/less laggy than the normal console controller, mainly because increased accuracy is what has attracted people to PC gaming over playing on consoles. Motion controls have basically been ruled out, as Newell says that for their controller, motion controls will not work. “Biometrics” will be the main focus for their controller, since they recognize that looking into biometrics allows for much better accuracy and response time. The Steambox is going to be licensed out to manufacturers that will comply with Valve’s specifications, so therefore there will be more than just one Steambox on the market. Although, Valve will have their own “official” one that will likely lead the way for Steambox. The Steambox will come out with three price points (Good, Better and Best.) It looks like the prices will play out like this, Good = $99, Better=$300, Best= Some price quite a bit higher.) Knowing Valve this will very likely be a massive success and I may just have to pick one up myself. Other parts of the article (linked below) refer to the ability to be customized and upgraded internally after you buy one. It seems to me that Valve wants to combine the best of both worlds, the PC and Consoles that is. SOURCE LINK: http://www.tgbuzz.co...-gaming-market/
  16. I'm actually more for just removing the 3rd person perspective in favor of a 1st person perspective. This would benefit gameplay in several different ways. This would benefit strategy and revive the role of vehicles in Halo. Now not only could a Warthog be used as a transport vehicle and a mobile machine gun turret. It could also be used as a super mobile sniping platform. This combination would be deadly and just what is needed to bring the Warthog back up to speed with the other vehicles. However this probably would hinder the abilities of Rocket launchers and other weapons that are best fired from the third person perspective. (easier to aim) I guess it's really just a battle of which is more important to you. Good post OP
  17. A large population isn't necessary in either Spartan Ops or War Games. In fact population is only considered important in the way that it can signify which playlists are loved and whether a game is doing well or not. My reasoning is completely based upon the idea that Spartan Ops should not be a more plentiful source of XP in the long run. The plan I have laid out would convince people to play Spartan Ops Episodes at least once for maximum XP output... yet not result to people playing them over and over again constantly and getting more XP than in War Games, which I consider to be the main thunder of the game. All opinions
  18. Yup... And Hopefully they would move on over to War Games.
  19. 1:33 is hilarious. :3 Really Annoying Kid #1: They're behind us, they've secretly been behind us the entire time. Really Annoying Kid #2: They're not behind me?, Really Annoying Kid #1: They're everywhere, They're in our spawns and everything.
  20. Check this out. Visceral Studios just revealed their ultimate collectors version of their upcoming game Dead Space 3. They have decided to name it the Dev Team edition. These will be super limited as only 5000 are planned to be made and will sell for a whooping 160$.
