Do you think spawning with plasma grenades will be overpowered?
fpstactic replied to OrangeSpartan's topic in Halo 4
so long as people cant spam nades instead of fighting with their aim, I can imagine a batlle where you're winning the aim fight and the other guy turns a corner and spams grenades until his sheilds return... so far they have been able to turn the corner, drop one grenade to give them a chance, and its a battle for the head shot... but I trust 343i to balance it, I doubt these guys are scrubs -
hey guys, look at it like this, there is a system of ranking that puts you with and against players of similar skill, so you dont get annoyed at your team mates, and you dont get "meh" at halo because the level of ccompetition is rubbish sure you don't get a rank to show off, there was enjoyment to that, but there was also alot of jack offs talking smack about how much better they were the derankers are almost eliminated, the only use for them now is to bring their friends back up to a high level of competition if they buy a new account, which is probably more hassle than its worth ...I guess we'll see how important showing off was checked out the post "fresh new ranking system"? it includes more showing off, and eliminates derankers

are you guys sure its not already color coded in reach? because it already is in halo 3... when your team gets a kill the feed appears green as it just pops up, and then changes to white as it drops down to regular size when the enemy team kills a team mate, the feed appears red just before it changes its nice to have it work like that, neat, subtle

yeah, lots of factors, you could be better at some factors and worse at others, and then who is the better player? the player who wins? you could be better at nine out of ten factors and lose to the one out of ten guy. ...and just because you're good in one game, how many people play their best every game? I used to be a player who could appreciate the skills of my opponents, and compliment them for it. I used to be a player who could tolerate weak team mates, so long as there was a way to avoid them in the future but after having my experience ruined, I contribute by keeping my comments to myself, good enough?
-
yeah, host can play a big factor, but I have found that when I get green bar I don't notice
-
okay, I'm sorry, I personally have never had that problem in halo 3 ranked matches, and I don't play much social so I couldn't comment there... just going on experience... never even heard about this problem before
-
"huge egos"? the experience I had was against really nice guys, nobody thought they were the best because within the game it was obvious who had better br skills, who had better snipe skills, who knew the map better, who timed the power weapons better, who camped with a one kill lead, who got that lucky sticky nade etc... there was no question after the game who was on their game at that time, there was nobody pissed at anybody else because if you're better you don't want to chase off your next victory, and if you were worse you had nothing to say... it was like lone wolves players, except nicer. did you troll head to head? did you get trolled in head to head?
-
okay, so do you have any opinion on this thread suggestion?

erm, that was called "runnng the flag", because moving it forward like that was faster than holding it

people will still derank to get their friends back up to the top of competition when they buy new accounts at the bargain price of $1 per month, but it wouldn't happen a fraction as much thank goodness players will be seperated, so annoying when not. nothing to show off to other players? alright, so long as the games are fun to late for a new ranking system, maybe... what do you guys think about it anyway? it may or may not be too late, either way its worth having your say if you like or don't like it, so that it does or doesn't get a proper review in the future

head to head was a 1 on 1 playlist bungie tried on halo 3 for a few months, it didn't have a great population, I think the reason behind that was the lack of dedicated maps and imaginitive game types the only game type was one where you permanently had a way point over your head for your opponent to see within this game type was a swat type game, swords, and regular slayer there were no custom maps, just small to medium pre-existing maps that had the weapon and power-up drops adjusted... it was pretty limited game play but with the right game type ideas, and custom maps, it has the potential to be a solid top five pick for alot of players another game could be a race over one of those custom maps people made, that you had to jump from platform to platform, if you fell, you died. there were things to make the journey more varied, like when you jump up a wall you could enter a mongoose, and when you exit the mongoose you jump again to scale the wall, ramping warthogs, hitting fusion coils to throw yourself over a gap, gravity lifts etc

I'd like to see a return of this, but this time include more than just one game type... the "waypoint over your head" game type. some examples would include: sniper vs zombie, where sniper is on a raised platform looking down on a map/maze, and the zombie has to make their way through the maze while dodging bullets sniper vs sniper, one variety of this could be king of the hill where the hill is in the center of the map, and the respawn points could be one of four locations, all looking towards the hill obviously, octagon 1v1 amplified(halo 3 mlg map) flag with special game settings oddball with special settings mongoose race br stadium, 1 life per round, players spawn directly opposite each other see now there is so much potential for a great head to head play list, vote yes if you want to see it as a play list, and leave a suggestion if you can think of a game type

if you have time you rank up regardless, meanwhile you are a poor player ruining the games of good players when you drag them down or you give them weak competition... so if you were the good player, who cares about ranking up when playing suks. the reach system encourages playing non seriously just so you don't get mad, and the ranks mean nothing about your skill as a player, only your time available.

introduction: I am a level 50 in halo 3, and I barely played reach because the xp system gave no special award for playing good, only playing long, so my effort would not be recognised. furthermore, if I put the work in to learn the game, the only way to guarantee I would play with team mates who didn't ruin my game by playing poorly, was to go into the playlist with a set team... and even if I found a team, there was no way to guarantee the level of competition of the opposition would be worth the time... there needed to be some way to seperate players. for this reason I have been desperately hoping for some type of ranking system, and after thinking it through have come up with an idea I want to submit, ample time before release date. thanks in advance for reading. the idea: this can work in sync with any experience based system already on board, this seperates players, this give some type of visual representation of skill that can only be got by winning this deals with the problem of derankers halo 3 had a skill system that went from 1 to 50 firstly my variation on this would be to have level groups such as; begginer, intermediate, advanced, expert and in order for a player to play in a higher group than his current one, he must win ten games in a row or have a win record of 70% or more, over his last 100 games, then the player unlocks the next level, and can play other players who have unlocked it within each level, players get matched up with other players on a very similar win record to their own if players join parties of two or more, the entire party is matched up with players who are equal to the win record of the best player on the party, and the win records of the other members do not contribute to the level of competition, however a win for the party will count as no more than 1 win to the records of all party members, regardless of their expected win chances. additionally: there is an opportunity for some nice level completion animations, such as "expert level master" in lone wolves gets a star surrounding their current experience level symbol, and the option to place a wolf tattoo on his spartan, and if that player also has "expert level master" in team snipers, they get an additional star around their current symbol and the option for a cross hair tattoo on their spartan note: I am not a mathematition, nor do I know how easily it should be to level up, so I cannot calculate the optimum formula for players to rank down (please 343i, have something that seperates players, and put me with and against players similar to my record) again, thank you for reading.

I didn't get to play halo 2 or its ranking system, halo 3's graffics look much more appealing though, but on topic, if it allowed the same type of mastery, and if it encouraged working to achieve that mastery, I'm for it. I would still think 1-50 does not seperate players enough and perhaps 1-100 would be better and I like what you say about accepting defeat/counter measures, for someone who ups their halo game to the point of mastery, I would hope for the same approach be taken towards problems in the true skill ranking system, thats the we play at, right?!.

from a totally self interested point of view, not thinking about the community at all, just thinking about my own pleasure... I'll give halo 4 a chance whatever the ranking system, obviously I'm on a halo dedicated forum... but when I think about how much I'm gonna care about a win/loss, I "doubt" I, or anyone else, is gonna care as much as when the true skill system was in place, ...I truely believe my thoughts represent the majority of players who have reached true skill level 47+, as mlg pro player "ninja" says, and I really hope the one game available for these mastery players to prove and perform, does not leave us with nothing, near as high quality, to play p.s. when I talk about quality, I am aware games like fifa and pes have a decent system, but the genres doesn't appeal to as many people, and the social capability in halo 3, in my opinion, is second to none, file sharing, true skill proven status, fighting to take a level off the other guy and add it to yourself, metagame involved with mastery gamers, if anything I would make the true skill level go up to 100 because 1-50 didn't seperate players status enough... drifting off topic sheilds that give you a chance to win when you been shot at first, equipment to strategise around, timing power ups and power weapons made for great fights at bottle neck positions, fighting with or without the power weapon changed the game, bouncing nades like tennis balls, sticking nades, neddler, sword, headshot medal, map quality, a visual scheme that makes the most of the current generation of graffics... meaning that players could not blend into the back ground unrealisticly... just off the top of my head the best game, in the most versatile genre, capable of heavy mastery... but will people bother without a true skill ranking system? I know I heard alot of people scold derankers, but I bet those same people would say they would take the good with the bad, if the mastery component was taken out I sincerely hope I, and all mastery players, will care about it to fulfill its potential... sigh... the time I have spent on halo 3 could be measured in months... please please please please

love the idea, I already own it on xbox, but I would like a release on the PC so that there would be more players online if halo 4 isn't competitive enough, regarding the ranking system

really good observation ryu! I definitely will be farming lol

getting excited.. couple of notes I found interesting: 1)"flags ass ination" lol 2)flag carrier speed, moving slower had some definite strategical challenges to it, so if its not adjustable, it might be a safe play to make it so 3)you can't drop the flag... again, there were strategical challenges to that, eg passing the flag, throwing it into low and open ground so you could kill opponents trying to return it, pulling out your power weapon 4)no longer need the flag to be at home, you didn't always anyway, but it should be adjustable 5)standing on the flag to return it gave some strategical opportunities, eg forcing the other team out of hiding by dropping it, trying to return your flag from a predicted position and enteriing battles at a disadvantage and so forcing you to play perfectly 6)overtime music sounds epic can't wait to try this new style and develop strategies for it 7)afk flag team kill, if he was holding the flag and he went afk in any halo game you would have to kill him, and at the higher levels of play the fault would be on the guy who went away, not the guy who killed him, so there would be no boot
-
well ryu, there's a fierce community of mastery players, they have put alot of time and energy into mastering the halo style, and they are very out spoken about things that nurf the potential of their mastery achievement, even though the only compliments they give is in their time spent playing :/ btw, whats your true skill level in halo 3?
-
in halo 3, the kill feed already is color coded... lol, with a ranking system, players who know they have to learn the game to make their accounts better, notice this stuff when an enemy kills a team mate, the feed initially appears red before fading into the neutral color when a team mate kills an enemy, the feed initially appears green before fading its just the right amount of color code to make you subconsciously aware. @one, how would you feel about a picture of the weapon used on your team mate, above their dead body, instead of an "X"?

the true skill ranking system was the one reason I decided to stay with halo 3 when I had only played a few games... In it I saw the potential to fulfill the instinctive drive for social status, which I believe appeals to everyone. With an xp ranking system it is possible to mislead yourself and others into thinking you have social status, but with the true skill ranking system, the vast majority of the time, there could be no deception about your status within the mastery of the game.... so the true skill route holds a much harder but truer road to fulfillment of this one drive ....and this was the one reason I stuck with it, and never bothered to learn games like CoD the xp version appeals to the social gamer, the skill version appeals to the mastery gamer theres alot of talk about how one version will match you up with one type of player and, the other version matching you up with another type of player, and how that creates a better "game" but I think people who say that don't want to admit its not the "game", its the ego drive behind having a visual representation of their mastery, and beating someone else who has a visual representation of their mastery

oh dear god I hope theres no fall damage, I play halo like its an arcade game rather than a simulation, it makes the shooter feel like a sport rather than war... which is hot. unless they can include fall damage in a way that keeps the arcade feel of halo 3, baby jesus would cry @ryu hayabusa, the reach charaters were not spartans
-
wow, shows how much of a reach noob I am, I didnt know you could choose between assassin and melee by holding or tapping melee button. definitely a must have option tho @vplus2, wouldn't taking away the "X", only after an assassination, make the assassination more dramatic and rewarding?
-
I think the idea of making an assassination a drawn out animation, makes the idea of a one hit melee kill, more realistic. Its great. the problems are, 1) it takes so long to finish, that the victim has gotten his call out to his team mates in time for them to put grenades on his "X", so perhaps taking away the victims "X" sign after the kill would make the assassination more valuable. I would also suggest killing the victims microphone feed until respawn, but then players would just enter private chat pregame 2) what if I am standing behind an enemy, and I don't want to assassinate them? what if I would rather drop their sheilds with a melee and finish the kill with a head shot... because I feel the time spent in the assassination animation will eliminate my advantage over multiple players of the enemy team, since I have gotten behind their front line... food for thought. I play at the highest levels in match making, and strategical considerations are more important than visual entertainment for me at that level... does anyone else care about that?
