I don't need to read them as the information is available, do you think the games are going to follow the books exactly? Give away the story before the game is released? I know she was on earth but she has a fully functioning AI on that world, and it is functioning enough to change the Chiefs DNA. In the books the Original Didact died, at least his body did, he was killed by a Forerunner builder. However he transfered his mind into the body of another Forerunner and that is in the books, maybe you need to read them. You can go check Halo Wikia, all the info about the Didact is there. As for the Librarian, that was not an memory chip, it wsa using direct interaction, and control functions, including controling the Prometheans, until the Didact escaped. Anyway the Didact was killed by Faber, and transfered his mind into Bornsteller, that's why people think there were two. But their were not. Cool? It's called the Brevet Mutation. They can do this transfer an unknown amount of times, chances are and this is just a guess, but Dr. Halsey probably contains part of the Librarian consciousness. This would explain her natural afinity with Forerunner tech, her desire to create the Spartans(the Libriarans actual plan), and her gift for genetics, it would explain why she is so much smarter than everyone else. How the transfer is actually done is unkown, and how it works as well, but we will probably see this explained. To be honest I think I am right, but we will see. I know I am right about the Didact though. I should have made it clear what I was talking about with the Libriarian. Cortana is an AI, Guilty Spark was, and chances are that Librarian we say in the game was as it was running that shield world. AI's are friggin smart, and have lots of info, it new exactly how to change John. But we will see, one way or another the Librarian still has a part to play, I can feel it. If she can do multi generational genetic memory encoding, which is what she did and it lasts for Billions of years, she could have done that with her own memory as well via the Brevet Mutation on whatever human seed she wanted. See I know a little about books. Just to further the point. The Librarian died in Africa at a Forerunner site. Africa the cradle of Humanity, the place where it all began for us. Who is to say the Libriarian didn't have a protocol setup where a drone went out grabbed a cave person and used a device at the instilation to unpload her genetic memory and part of her concsience into them. So that one day they would evolve into Dr. Halsey, or the reincarnation of the Librarian in my own opinion. Look at Cortana based off genetic meterial for the Doc. The only thing outside of a Forerunner to surviive the mental attack of a Gravemind. Kind of a lucky twist of fate, or Cortanas unkown factor, Halsey identified an unkown factor in her creation for making her as smart as she was and unique as she was. What do you think that factor was considering she is based off the doctors mind? Plenty of hints. But again we will see. Just a theory, which is what this thread is about. The Doc and the Librarian are both experrts in the exact same fields, Genetics, AI's, etc. The Doctor could be to the Libriarian what Cortana was to the Doc. Cortana was much more than just a computer, she had emotions, concsience, selfawearness, feelings. Not a normal AI at all. And all based off the Doc herself. We can finish this debate in like 6 years. Looking forward to it. One last thing everything being discussed by us was left open ended, Halsey's past the Librarian's time on earth, Cortanas fate, Halseys natural gifts, cortanas natural gifts. All left open ended. A writer only does that for one reason. To address them later, and all of them can be tied together. Maybe I am right and maybe I am wrong but they are clearly easy connect.

When I say argument I mean as in a debate, I don't do blog fighting as it is pointless. You may think you said a lot but it was pretty superfical, feel free to go in depth. I get it you want to keep it short on a blog, but who cares what other people think. You may point out something I missed and relay that information to me giving me a greater view of the game. I tend to encourage writing, I think it's a good thing. Well good writing is, then you have twilight and the like and I don't encourage that at all.

Yes the Composer is destroyed and can not be used. She could touch the Master Chief because she was using hard light technology. But you may be on the right track, and the Libriarian may also be part of the answer as well. SPOILERS!!!! How about I pose these questions. Do you think the Humans are just going to let a Forerunner world sit there? They will probably send lots of people to that world where the Libriarian resides right? The Libriarian loves humans so she will probably be very helpful in updating their tech. Do you know how the Didact got his current body? Gosh could it have been a digital mind transfer? If he had that tech then don't you think the Libriarian has that tech? Now if they can get Cortanas head right, might not they also be able to put her in an actual body lets say like in Halo 6? Perhaps a cyborg body to allow her to still function as an intel officer with multiple Forerunner cybernetic implants to the brain kind of like the Libriaran once had so she can you know still do what she does. Her body could be on the Infinity runnig the ship, while she could still be linked to the Chief via Forerunner communication tech which is more than capable of doing that. Gosh isn't the Libriarian a galactic level gentic engineer capable of doing all of this with ease? A human body with full AI capablities, kind of like I don't know the Libriarian who could run whole Forerunner worlds with her brain, do you think? I mean really has it not occured to anyone that the Didact and Librarian are the Cortana and Chief of their respective time? The greatest hero and Warrior and the greatest mind. The Libriarian is trying to change fate because of what happened to her people. Don't you think she sees that in Cortana and the Chief? Don't you think she sees history repeating itself, the flood returning? The War between the Covenant and the Humans is not all that different from the Forerunner Human war. Fighting eachother when they should be fighting the flood. And now they have access to her, and I am pretty sure she wants to change some things. After all she wants them to have the Mantle. She also probably wants to fix things with the Didact who I suspect is not gone yet. Pretty sure he can teleport without a teleportation device much like the Prometheans do. Although he has lost his ship and most of his troops, oh and his Super Weapon.

Don't want to spoil it but I will make a few corrections. The UNSC still has a treaty with the Arbiter and his faction of covenant. The Covenant faction you saw in the game is a fanatic loyalist group and an enemy of the Arbiter. UNSC has been in contact with Arbiter and even aided him, he has even been on the Infinity. The Covenant are having a civil war Seperitist vs. Loyalists. UNSC is sending them some aid but mostly thye are using the time to rebuild. They are also running around the galaxy grabbing every piece of Forerunner tech they can find and reverse engineering them. That's why the Infinity has crazy strong shields, energy projector cannons and slip space communication. Most of this is in Halo 4 if you listen close enough.

Well according to you maybe, but according to critics it's metric score is lower than Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Reach. You don't really say anything to support your argument other that it was the best ever. So your not actually making an argument, rather you are making a claim or statement. Given the fan response I would have to go with it not being the best. My reasons have already been stated on this board, so I won't waste my time repeating them. Some advice if you want to make that argument, try supporting them with some depth to your claims. I liked Lasky but I am not a big fan of his future as it makes no sense. Don't want to spoil it for anyone but it literally makes no sense. In this game he was fine, except for the fact that he new the Chief to begin with and they should have made that much more clear in the game. In fact the Chief is his hero. I get the Chief not remembering him but Lasky should have been a lot more animated about seeing his hero, who just saved his life, again.

Novels make for good reading and you didn't say I was right enough. Like Super right, like the most right ever. A lot of that post was to clarify the first post which I thought was to vague and sloppy. None of it matters anyway John is not assigned to the Infinity, so he can only follow his last known Chain of command and standing orders. Last known chain is Lord Hood and NAVCOM, and standing orders are to "defend humanity at all costs." I guess Del Rio got nailed in the books for what he did, kinda wish that was maid clear in the game or that he was not the first choice for the Infinity which really belongs to Hood. The only reason he was given Command is that it was not currently being used as a war ship and was doing shake down tests. Would have made the whole thing make sense had that been put in the game. Out of his depth, on non com shake down drills, not known as combat commander but good at getting ships in order. Throw that in their and most of it makes sense. But threatening the MCPON that's just insane on any level, although in his case at least I would no why he went full retard. Because he has no idea what to do, he is out of his depth and he panics and does something stupid, well several stupid things.

Well I wouldn't expect you to, because that was a joke too. This must be the humor light board.

There is nothing but greatness from a Conan quote. Nothing. Shame on you for not knowing it was a joke and from Conan. The Chief wouldn't say that? Really? No Foolin? Hahahaha, glad you figured that out. Perhaps you should start a thread, "Things the Chief wouldn't say. I'll start "I'm Batman."
-
I would like a write in vote for his last line. It should have been this. Laskey: well you did it again, you won, but Chief what is best in life? Chief: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Kind of ragey, not pure rage, but clearly some rage in this thread. You need to replay Halo 2 and 3, your information is wrong. I have my problems with the campaign, but most of what your complaining about is actually wrong information on your part. Now on to your points. You have a problem with the Covenant fleet and what they are doing. I don't it's explained in the game that they are a splinter faction of fanatics. As we all know fanatics do stupid things. Now if you had said I have a problem with why they are still following the great journey I would have agreed. The Prophets betrayed the elites and all the elites know the prophets were lying about the great Journey. It never made sense to me that they would still be fanatical about this lie. But fanatics are fanatics. So that can go either way. As for why Cortana didn't notice the Covenant fleet, the Dawn is totally smashed, so that I can believe. But the fact that the Covenant fleet did not notice the distress Beacon until the Dawn was on top of them made no sense. You don't like Captain Del Rio. Me either but your reasons are not that clear. For me he has to be an idiot, the Master Chief holds the official rank of Master Chief Petty Officer of the navy, his rank insignia is clear as day on the memorial. That means he is the Chief of NAVCOM and under the direct powers of the Chief of Navel Command, his billet protocol is that of a Vice Admiral. Captain Del Rio is not even in his command structure and even if he was the only people who order the Master Chief Petty officer of the Navy around have multiple stars on their insignias. That's why the Chief has gold not silver stars on his insignia. He could order Del Rio relieved of command with the snap of his fingers on grounds of incompetance and countermanding the standing orders of the Chief of Navel Command. Del Rio has zero power over the Chief. The Chief on the other hand acts with the authority of the Chief of Navel operations. No Captain in his right mind would even attempt to give him an order let alone threaten him. However it is the reason Del Rio is relieved of Command by NAVCOM later in the game and the Infinity is sent to assist the Chief. I agree I have no idea why they are letting an enemy ship sit in orbit above earth, they know it is an enemy ship because they have already debriefed the Infinity command officers. The Infinity damaged that ship with one shot, so why didn't the fleet open fire? They know they can damage it. Instead they sit idel by and let the ship kill everyone in New Phoenix. Kind of a huge mistake. I don't like idiot driven plots and this plot tended to be driven by just that. As for the ending, yeah I won;t argue it, the emotional context was well done but the execution of events was just to much of a reach for me. The Nuke, the light bridge bubble that had no power source or bridge device and it could take a nuke hit, the unexplained survival of a ground zero nuke, the use of the Force by the Diadac, which does make sense to me because I know one of the lead writers wrote multiple Star Wars novels. But it's Halo not star wars and it does not belong. The whole genetically placed Luck, all that to far of a stretch Libriarian history. Didn't do it for me. The game turned the Humans into genetically engineered seed corn that sprouted billions of years after it was planted. She supposedly planted the genetic seeds for them to make power armor? I mean come on, really? So it was all her and not the Humans, the Chief is the Chief because she made him the Chief, because she gave him all that he is in genetic coding placed in primordial ooze billions upon billions of year ago. None of it works because we actually know when the earth was formed and when the universe began. We don't have the window to develop to that level twice. The time does not exist. But I can forgive that kind of comic book science, but really programing all modern advances in science via primordial ooze. GTFOOH. I would buy Galactus showing up before that plot. But to each their own. If Chief uses Force Jump or Force lightning in Halo 5 I am going to have to dump the series.

I'm... I'm gonna be fine thanks for asking. It's been a long day, the Packers won, I stubbed my toe. I recently broke up with my girlefriend and the weather suck. I put on like 10 pounds recently, my back is killing me, I won't be home for Thanksgiving, I have really bad gas right now, I miss my dog, I think I am coming down with the flu, I got stung by a bee, I stubbed my toe, I have gum in my hair, my mic sucks for xbox live, all the Pringles in the can were broken, my coke is flat, I found a gray hair today, Bieber just won an award, for what, for what I ask you? But I am... getting by. It's just so hard somet... Oh wait your talking about the game. Forget everything I just wrote, never mind.

Lone wolf nothing, John is under standing orders of NAVCOM. "Defend Humanity" Unless Captain Del Rio suddenly became Fleet Admiral Commander of Navel operation, he is directly trying to countermand Johns standing orders. Not to mention trying to give orders out of his command authority. Master Chief Petty officer of the navy. Is under the direct command structure of NAVCOM, and under the direct command of Lord Commander Hood. Del Rio is so out of his depth it's nott even funny. The only people John answers to are NAVCOM and they are the only ones who can givee him orders, and nobody can countermand Hoods orders except Hood. To further John is under his own discretion, and the chief spec ops asset. Unless given authority by Hood and or NAVCOM to command such assets, then he has zero authority over John. Let me put it this way unless given the authority by NAVCOM, no Ship Captian could start ording SEALS around, let alone the command Master Chief of the SEALS. They would be deployed and ordered by Operation Command. The Captain would be nothing more than a Cab driver to them. Take us here. As for protocol, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (Johns official Rank). Billet Protcol dictates he is to be treated as a Vice Admiral. While this does not mean John runs around commanding fleets, it does mean if he makes a request or recomendation you had better listen because NAVCOM will bust your *** if you don't. Any person in the navy knows this. Just to achieve this rank is the highest honor an enlisted can recieve from the navy. It's a huge deal, and to treat the MCPON with such disreguard, and to threaten to arrest him is nothing more than a Captain asking to be relieved. He is not under Del Rio's command structure. The Chief works for NAVCOM as a direct spec ops asset and holds the single highest enlisted rank in the navy placing him under Hoods command. Literally CHain of command goes like this in terms of giving chief orders, Commander Navel operations, Senior officer NAVCOM if Hood is unavailable, Chiefs discretion under Hoods standing orders for him. That's it.
-
The Captain in question is a horrible character. First the chief never violates any orders as he is listed as MIA meaning he is not active. Second he is senior Chief off the navy meaning his command structure falls directly under commander hood. Third he is in spec ops meaning his command falls directly under spec ops. Fourth no Captain would ever be given command of thee Navy's flag ship as it is the command ship of a battle group or task force meaning he would need at the very least the rank of rear Admiral. Fifth the Chief saved the earth, the Captain, the crew and his ship, oh and the galaxy. There is no Captain in existence crazy enough to question him as top brass would have their head on a spike. Which by the way they did, relieved of command. The single greatest hero in the known universe, tthe man who just saved you and your entire crew and you try to arrest him because he is trying to stop the earth and human race from being destroyed. The Chief could of had him relieved of command for incompetence in a heart beat. As it was how many people died on earth because of the Captains failure to act. Finally we already know the Chief has been granted full authority to act on his own accord in defense of the humane race. To question him is to question the direct orders of Lord Hood and Navel command. Take a look at Johns Rank insignia at the end of Halo 3 gold stars, 3 gold stars, there is only one insignia like that in all of the navy. Senior Command Master Chief of the navy, which means his billet protocol is that of a Vice Admiral. AKA John out ranks him anyway. So not only did the captain not have a clue, he also violated Lord Hoods standing orders, broke the chain of command and violated protocol. Oh yeah he is a genius. Sorry the insignia is that of the Master Chief Petty officer of the navy. Same thing, senior most enlisted under the direct command of navel command, billet protcol of a Vice Admiral. Right def wrong name.

What? What are you talking about? How does anything I wrote relate to what you just wrote? Did you reply to the right post? Who said anything about thhe books or what John said in them? We are talking about how some fans view the Chief. Luck? Who was talking about his luck? Please reread my post.
-
Sure, but that's more about you than John. Nobody likes to get older, iit makes us feel vulnerable. Even when we see those around us age. But that's life. For the Master Chief it is like we would see him lose his mystique. In the armor he seems invulnerable, but what is he outside the armor? You have only ever known him with it, it's like he becomes sommething else in your eyes. Lucky for everyone he is not doctor who, it's only armor, and he is still the chief. Notice how you called him John and not the Master Chief, my guess is because it is personel for you. How long have you played the games? 5 years? 10 years? I wouldn't worry to much about it. I also would not go on to say it is an insult, what insult? Eyes you can't even see? If you do end up seeing the Chief which I doubt ever happens, would that change him. Imagine if someone else put on his armor, whould that make him John 117? No, because it's not about the armor
-
When did seeing his face become a bad thing and don't speak for me. I don't care if they show it or not, either way helmet or face it is nothing more than a superficial aspect of the character. Neither his face nor his helmet define who he is. Just like your face does not define who you are. You might as well complain about seeing his hand or his feet which have never been show either. It's the characters actions and motivation, his choices and mistakes that will define him, not a friggin helmet.

Hey 343, here is what we we think about Cortana! (spoilers)
ThebigC replied to walrus munchies's topic in Halo 4
What? Bret Favre a hero? Dude was a football player. I am pretty sure I hated him day one. Lets see life long Bears fan, yep I hated him. It's even on my resume. Honestly the only hero's you seem to know are from books. There have been plentyy of hero's that have been just that hero's. Sure you have your Lance Armstrongs, but plennty of good people have been hero's. Besides Lance was always a villian people just wanted him to be a hero. That's a pretty negative attitude you have. Just a few names Washington Lincoln Churchill Roosevelt Teddy Roosevelt Matin Luther King Sam Adams John Adams Eisenhower Grant Audie Murphy MacArthur Davy Croccket De Gaulle Joan Of Arc Anne Hutchinson Jefferson Truman Kennedy Armstrong John Glenn Rosa Parks Susan B Anthony Lindbergh Earhart Nathan Hale Meir Lou Gehrig Joe Louis Sitting Bull The list goes on and on, and on. -
The Arbiter will return for Halo 5, he will have a Brute sidekick named Brutebacca, he will have his new ship the Centenial Eagle, and after a long sword fight at the end of Halo 5 the Diadac will reveal that he is in fact the Chiefs father. What? He wears armor, is really tall and has a force choke. In Halo 4 his giant space station like ship that shot it's super beam weapon was going to wipe out all life on the home base of the humans. Lucky for them the chief blew up the core. Gotta love these totally original 343 ideas. Force Choke, HA! You know I would have said Star Wars ripoff what with all the Force Choking, giant space station ship with it's super beam cannon energy weapon. But it's not like you got in a space fighter and made a trench run while energy cannons were shooting at you. Oh wait, DAMN IT! Okay well at least your closest friend and advisor didn't sacrifice themselves, fighting Lord Diadac so you could escape. SOB! Well at least they didn't rip off the Jawa sand crawler, and you didn't attach your long sword to the hull of a enemy ship while it made the jump to hyper space. OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Okay well Cortana never said help me Obi Wan, so ha, in your face Star Wars.

Hey 343, here is what we we think about Cortana! (spoilers)
ThebigC replied to walrus munchies's topic in Halo 4
Alright I am going to give you guys the secret. Wait, super secret ultra leaked information. Yes this is major, Cortana is going to be replaced by a sexually androgynous new pink AI named Bunny voiced by Justin Bieber. The new AI will constantly say "Baby, Baby, baby" and "I am not a girl, really" Also it will constantly tell you to check out it's twitter page, and talk about what the chief looks like naked while insisting he is not ***. His AI chip will be called the closet. This is the truth, I totally swear on it on your mothers graves. Kim K just tweeted she can't wait to play Holler 5 (I think she meant Halo 5) cause she is such a huge fan and that she thinks the Biebs will be as big a hit as her pre inflatable backside. Meanwile Gomez just tweeted that she will refuse to play Halon 5 cause she is tired of pretending that Justin likes girls. She insists that Haldal 5 is her favorite game and is sad that she woun't be able to play as Sarahh 90210. Cause that's her most favorite video game character. Biebs insists he will knock it out of the park as Bunny will be pop locking to his own music and he plans on doing the score. He says he is sure the fans will love the scene in which the Diadac spanks poor bunny. Ah welcome to the new Halo universe, based on pop culture and produced by mtv. He will also be releasing a new single Spartan Spartan Spartan Oh. Hopefully Taylor Swift will alsoo be in the game. She could be like the new Ship Captain. -
Read the books, it's a game which part of it's a game confuses you? If I want to read a book I read a book, if I want to play a gaame I play a game. Halo is a game with some loosely based books tied to the series. The level of read for said books falss somewhere between Twilight fan fic, and anything scrawled on the wall in the mens room of a truck stop. Call me crazy but when I spend my money on a game I expect it to be a complete game and a good game. That's why I pay for it, see how that works? So when fans start saying gosh if you want to understand the campaign, or you want to know what the story is about go read the books based off the original games. No I won't, I want the product I paid for. You would think the campaign story would actually be complete or coherent, I mean it's not like they are hurting for money, they can afford to make a complete story. I didn't see that place on the package the game came in that said please read the books to understand what we wrote. But even iff I had read the books the story would still be bad. Because allready know the story in the books, and it's ****. I actually like good books. Not sloppy plot hole riddled, ink stained contradictions, written by bad writers trying to ride the coat tails of what was once a great series of games. Sorry but when your story is based off of a video game campaign mode, with most of the characters and the ideas based off the characters, story, plot and ideas of said game. Then the writer is doing nothing but fan fic, and the company is just milking a product. I am a huge fan of the series but I am not gullible or pathetic enough to by everything Halo just because it says Halo. I understand an item here or there, but people buying an extra 360 just so they can have the Halo Xbox, or people who by poorly written books and claim they are great just to justify there own love. The books can't even get right they had to update them two years ago just to try and mantain canon. Telling to reaad a book so they understand the game? How about make a game where the story mode actually makes sense so people don't have to read a book to understand the failed writing and script. My god the only people to even review those books were video game reviewers. Please do what you waant with your own time and money but don't tell what to buy or what to read just cause you like it. You liking something does not make it good nor does me disliking something make it bad. But really the Halo books? All like 20 of them that were written in like what 5-6 years? Books that continue to add new content and change content cause they can't maintain their own continuity. Sorry save your peer pressure someone else. Oh and to be clear the insults I wrote about the books are just hardd ribbing. I like to be melodramatic and over the top sometimes, I just find it funny. That and any reason to write a creative insult is to hard for me to pass up. So dan't take the insults on the books to harsh, I am not a fan but I don't care if you enjoy them, I just wouldn't bother with them myself. @John007 really? Your so obsessed with the series that your going nuts over this topic. Don't make me tell your mommy, she will take away your controller, and you won't be seing your John 117 PJ's and that hand drawn rather riskay poster of Cortana and you over your bed will be taken down. Now do everyone a favor and come back to this little planet I like to call earth. By the way telling people they need to read the books to understand the story in the game is the same as saying the campaign story is incomplete, because if it can't be understood without the books, then it's not a complete story. So basically you justify the complaints about the story while trying to argue against those same complaints. "The story is good you just have to read the books to understand them." So your saying the story can't be understood without the books. Thank you for your support. II really think both sides still need to drop the topic, as it's to late and nothing will change what has already happened. We are just going to keep debating the topic and nobody is actually a fan of the debate. I am over it, really lets move on. I am going to be ignoring the topic after this week, I can't waste my time pointlessly over this. I would guess most people are in the same boat right.

Your Trolling to tell a guy to stop trolling on his own thread? He clearly did not like the over repetitive nature of of the missions, I am actually dumfounded as to how you could miss that. I mean really that's about as blatant as it gets. Can't wait to see his post on the final mission, if you thought the gondola was repetitive oh are you in for a treat. Hey if that's called building suspense how come I found the game lacking in just that. In fact that's one of the major complaints on this site. A lot of people thought the campaign was dull, repetitive and full of plot holes. It's not like he is the only one, there multiple new threads each day about this. You trolling for what you perceive is trolling is still just trolling. He has a right to his opinion, if it bugging you just ignore these types of threads. There are other threads right? I happen to agree with him, it was overly repetitive and I found that boring. I really only wanted to save Cortana, and I did not find a lot of suspense in the writers dragging out the story with repetitive game play and idiot plots. "Hey I am the Captain of the infinity, and I think your a poopy head cause you just saved, me, my crew, and my ship. Your under arrest because I am a moron and a plot device put in place to extend the story and build boredom." Oh yeah that's great writing. "High I am the Didact my people built the Halo rings, weapons designed to destroy all life in the universe. You humans were to aggressive when killing the flood, but then the rings were fired by me and almost all life was destroyed. But your still alive, so now I must kill you all again because you are to aggressive." Yep that is not an idiot plot at all. Not to mention the cheap emotional plea of Cortana dying. Yeah like she won't be back. You might as well be killing Jean Gray. Blatant emotional plea to save what would have been one of the worst endings in gaming history. Cue cut scene, and grenade, and game over. How very exciting. Or how about the fake new explosion, talk about your plot device. I guess Chief beats nuke. Well why not he beats everything else. Here let me show you how this story could have gone if anyone had a clue. Just to show how weak it is. Captain retard "Cortana must be destroyed she is becoming rampant" Chief "No" Captain Retard "I'll have you arrested" Chief " Your an idiot, do you have any idea who your talking to." "Tell you what, let me use your com and you won't have to worry about anything." Captain "Fine, but I am really angry" Chief " This Sierra 117 to Lord Hood." Lord Hood "holy ****! Your alive! Best news I have had sense you destroyed the flood and ended the covenant war. What do you need" Chief Explains situation. Lord Hood "Okay the infinity will take you to earth to get Cortana to the Doc, the fleet is moving to intercept the Didac, and we are patching you through to the big guy." Arbiter "Chief my brother from another mother, I knew you would be okay. What I can I do for the guy that exposed the Prophets, destroyed the flood and saved my people from the Brutes?" Chief Explains situation Arbiter "Okay Chief you get Cortana to the Doc, that's clearly important to you, well pick up the slack, we oh you and the humans big time." Arbiter "Oh Half Jaw! Remember when you said you were board and desperate to kill something?" Half Jaw "Yes" Arbiter "How does a crazy Forerunner who wants to destroy the humans and enslave are race sound?" Half Jaw "Sounds like music to my friggin ears." Arbiter "There is one small problem" Half Jaw "That being" Arbiter "Your not going to like it" Half Jaw "alright quit teasing" Arbiter "He only has one ship" Cue laughter Half Jaw "I'll make do" "Say why don't we leave the fleet behind and just make it two some." "It will be like when we used to go bowling." The End. But no lets ignore the fleets, skip Lord Hood and the Arbiter, and pretend like people hate the Chief cause he saved the Galaxy. Yes that it brilliant writing, as long as someone does an emotional plea at the end by killing Cortana and the Didac slaps on some Daedric armor and uses the force.

So basically Didact is an over aggressive moron. And the story still makes no sense. Hey stop being so aggressive, cause I am trying to destroy or enslave your entire race that wass already totally destroyed once while trying to beat by the Halo rings we built. A race that built a weapon that destroys all life in the galaxy, is harping on the humans for fighting the flood, the very reason they built the rings? So basically the villiaan has gone full retarrd, and librarian went full retard when she married him. Gosh would joining forces be to obvious a choice if you wanted to stop the flood? No lets fight eachother then we can make Halo 4 and retcon as much out of the original triliogy as we can. That's not writing, that''s fan fiction. That's like Twilight level fan fiction, Shinny sparkle Vampires who love the sun and zero personality plain faced emo chicks. Whoever created the Didact needs to introduce him to the pot and the kettle. I would rather watch River Song do a strip tease tahn have anymore of that. And that my friends is saying a whole lot.

Oh no Pony pride in the Halo verse. It's like an invasion of cute cuddly little demons. I said this before about the books and I will say it again. I don't give a rats *** about them. The books are loosely based off the original story from the game and not everything in them is canon. At least not for the original authors of the Halo trilogy. Plus I should not have to buy and read a book just to know what is going on in the game. I purchased a 360, and all the games that should be enough. Besides it's the opposite of what Bungie did. Bungie created the Halo verse, it was their idea, it was an original story, they did not borrow it or base it off some loosely based canon. You like the books and that is great, but they are not my cup of tea so why should have to read them to understand the latest Halo game, I didn't have to do that with the original trilogy. Having to read a book about the story they are trying to tell in the game, just to understand said story makes the writing that much worse. You shouldn't have to do that, that's bad writing. I also shouldn't have to experience COD when I am playing Halo multi but that's another story. As for the game feeling like a bunch of scenes put loosely together, well that's how most movies and game campaign stories are put together these days. It's called story boarding. A bunch of scenes stuck together on a board. But it is the writer and script editors job to connect them so they flow and make sense. It seems there in lies the problem with the game. My guess is they could of used another 6 months to a year to flush out the story they wanted to tell and connect the dots so to speak. My guess is deadline became a big problem along with a lack of original ideas. They had source material, but it seems like that's all they used, where is the creativity? You can see this on the most base level with the ship names , it used to be stuff like "The Pillar of Autumn" and "In Amber Clad." Now it's Infinity, could you be anymore generic or cliche? You see it in the highly repetitive maps, which you see in a lot of games but not usually to this extent, and not usually done in such a simple manner. The maps are very basic, most notably the last 4 maps which are the same map done 4 times in a row. Speaking of being repetitive, the hammering of the campaign mode by me and many other fans is probably getting a little to repetitive. For those of us that didn't like it maybe it's time to rap it up, or at least try to by the end of the week. Nothing we can do about the campaign now. Lets try and finish getting this out of our systems ASAP, nobody likes a whiner or people whining about people whining. I am sure 343 has gotten the message and maybe they invest a little more in the campaign next time. If not well there is always something else. Lucky for me my copy of Halo 4 has a multi player bug, keeps freezing my 360. So yeah I can take it back and feel like the only thing I wasted was about 5-6 hours on the campaign and count 100 bucks back in my pocket. Believe me after playing this I would much rather have the money and that's a first for me and Halo. Thank god I finally got Portal 2, and for 19 bucks, totally cheered me up after playing this game and it was fun. By the way and just a heads up for 343, 3 of my friends, have not even finished playing the campaign they got board with it. They watched the Cortana end clip on you tube and that was it. Not big fans of thee Call of Halo multi either. Well it's a heads up if they actually read this stuff. If not they had a nice fat release date but I would not count on it being that big next time. The brand name made famous by another developer will not carry that far.

Halo 4's Campaign Addition to the Universe...Disappointed
ThebigC replied to Francis Barreras's topic in Halo 4
Can I just say I could give a rats *** about the books. I get some fans like them, and that''s cool but lets get a couple of things riight. Halo was not based off the books, the books were based off the game and the story developed for the game. Loosly based I might add. Second most fans have not read the books, and I don't want to have to read a book so I know what thee plot of the game is. If you have to do that then the story was not writen very well was it? Now I don't doubt that people have had their own reasons for enjoying the books or that they contain some good ideas or stories. But that does not mean they incorperate into the games well. Heck not everything inn the books, animated series or comics is even considered cannon. Well at least not by the original authors. Bungie always had a plan, story, and idea of what they wanted for the original series. It is that which the books are based off of and not the other way around. 343 did the opposite, they used other peoples stuff, the books and what Bungie had done to create their story. To me that makes it more a work of fan fiction than anything else. I expected some original thought. I won't say the entire game is bad, because it isn't. But I did not expect so much borrowed material. Heck even multi is more like COD than Halo multi. COD used to borrow from Halo, every FPS multi did. Now it's the other way around. As to the author of this thread, I give you a fun fact about the Chief and Halo. The Chief is based off the "Man with no name" archetype made famous in the Dollars Trilogy and portrayed by Clint Eastwood. He doesn't say much and you get a lot of first person type screen shots to allow the viewer to put himself in the protagonists place. If your a fan of those movies you will notice many themes for the Chiefs character inspired by the Man with no name, and other characters tied to his creation such as the legendary Yojimbo, and of course the Continental Op from Red Harvest. My own personal belief is that Bungie's original score for Halo was inspired by that Dollars trilogy. Not that the music is the same but both were used to compliment the era and settings perfectly, and both were distinct. I also feel Lee Van Cleef was one of the inspirations for the Arbiter. He seemed to have a nice mix of both the Colonel and Angel Eyes.- 9 replies

How the heck to you understand the flood? A giant supper telepathic plant that crushed the Forerunners. The Captain already knows this. The humans know who beat the forerunners. The same enemy the Chief just destroyed a few years ago. If anything the Didac just uses some advanced technology, that's it. He refused to go after the Didac after they chased him off and he was on the run. Not understand? The Didac uses pretty conventional tactics. The flood attack with spores can convert any life form to their side, can hack any computer, read minds, you name it. There is nothing conventional about the flood, super intelligent spore based space zombie telepaths. Not to mention the humans are not some typical military. They just went through a 3 decade long extinction war with the Covenant, these are not rookie commanders who choke under fire. These are the remains of the Covenant war. These are the no guts no glory hard *** fighters, these are the pipe hitters. They are battle tested, after a 30 year war they would know if this Captain was a choker. They would not have given him command of the Flag ship if he had been a nobody, a coward or a choker. The guy is a plot device nothing more. What person in that military would question the Chief, let alone insult him? You want plot device? He gets mad at the Chief for disobeying a direct order. But then he orders his people to arrest the Chief and not one of them do a thing and he does not get mad at them or relieve them. He is a plot device, his actions make no sense. The librarian, the Captain, the Didac are all plot devices. What kind of idiot race takes their evil prisoner, locks him away on the Halo immune world, oh and leave his army with him? The librarian went through all the trouble of somehow making the Chief evolve through billions of years of evolution, which is not even possible, so he would have dormant genes that make him immune to some super weapon, that attacks only humans. Here is a bullet, save you self the trouble and shoot the Didac, problem solved. Oh and the next time you imprison someone don't leave them their warship and army if you are worried that a trillion years from know they might escape. Yes lets all do stupid stuff to drive the plot, cause if we act like we have a clue the story ends in 10 seconds. Look it's none Bungie Halo which means Microsoft has a lot more control which means it's all about multi player, and the campaign is just some secondary piece they throw in there. There is no way 343 put a lot of time or effort into this story. These are grade school level mistakes. Hey like it and that's all good, I see it a different way.
