    Tips for new players

Controlling positions has always been a big part of halo. Although I think weapon spawns and times need to be re evaluated in order create set ups instead of just random running around.
  2. After seeing a few posts by some players new to Halo, I decided to make an account and make this thread. I'm not sure if this should be in MM or in General Discussion, but GD is full of complaint threads etc. and I just read a post from a new player in this sub forum. So here we go. If you are struggling in MM and seem to be getting destroyed, this should help immensely. 1) Always stick with your team. Try to stay with your team and do not be in the front. 2) All that matters is the win. Your goal is to put as many shots onto other players as possible. This helps your team get kills and you will end up getting some of their kills. You should not care about who gets the kill, just shoot as many people as many times as possible. 3) Always be aware of your positioning. Always have an escape route planned. If an enemy shows up, have a way to get away quickly. This means staying close to corners etc. instead of running into the open. 4) Do NOT chase anyone. Chasing will only get you killed. If the enemy runs away, let them go. 5) If the enemy gets the first shot on you, run and recharge your shields. Don't fight when you have the disadvantage. 6) I told you to stay with your team and behind your team mates, But if you do find yourself in a 1v1 gunfight with an enemy (and you will) you need to make yourself as hard a target as possible. This means you need to learn how to strafe well while shooting. Don't move forward or backward, only move from side to side. Move left for about a second then right for about a second etc. If you do it too quickly, you won't move far enough to make a difference. Also vary it up, make the pattern unpredictable. Add in a quick crouch or 2 if you can. Try jump and/or jetpack at the end to throw them off. This will be very hard to do all while aiming for new players, but the sooner you start practising it, the better. I disagree with some of the things other members have advised. I don't think you should use the assault rifle or other automatic weapons. I suggest using the DMR ASAP. Yes, it requires well placed shots, but it will help you get better and it is the better weapon. Using the DMR also allows you to do as I said, stay behind your team and get kills from further away. Using automatic weapons means rushing into enemies and getting very close range kills The more you play, the more you will notice things that better players do. The new kill cam feature should help a lot as well. Anyways, follow these tips and you should see an immediate improvement.
