Should 343 introduce a punishment for quitting during a game??
ProudDrunkIrish replied to ProudDrunkIrish's topic in Halo 4
You are the exact type of person who needs to be punished lol, The idea of quitting to save some random stats is so sad its hard to believe!!! So the excuse ''oh I was put into a game on the losing team'' or ''my team were gettin owned'' are not excuses for quitting. I have quit probably a dozen games in all, most of these due to food arriving at the door. The JIP system is there to help keep teams full but is not an excuse for you to quit. When you quit you can cause the entire game to stall for all players and you leave your team a man down for a while which is not fair on anyone. On consideration he points loss thing will not work due to the low cap at SR130, so it has to be a banning system.. For example: A player quits 5 games in 12hrs they are banned for 30mins after the 5th quit A player quits 8 games in 24hrs they are banned for 1hr after the 8th quit A player quits 11 games in 24hrs they are banned for 2hr after the 11th quit etc..... A repeat offender who gets say 4 x bans in a 7 day period gets banned for 24hrs so on and so on. These figures above are just to give an example of what couls be put in place the amount of quits or times for banning can be changed but if this existed then people would have to play. YOU ALL NEED TO LEARN ITS A GAME, BEYOND LAG THERE IS NO GOOD REASON FOR ANYONE TO QUIT. IF YOUR BEING BEATEN THEY ARE BETTER SO TIME FOR YOU TO IMPROVE. -
Well as the title says I would like to hear peoples opinion on this topic.. My own personal opinion is that their should be some sort of punishment for quitting out of games mid game. I bring this subject up for a couple of reasons, but mainly I feel the people quitting games is causing the 'join in progress' system to occur too often turning it from a good thing to a bad thing. If less people quit then there would be less join in progress occurring. Now with the current system the only things i can really think of are negative xp say 2k lost from your pregame xp, this however will not really matter as everyone gets up to SR 130 so in the long run will probably be no use. If you quit x number of games in x period you get banned from H4 online for x time (I think this existed in reach) Now beyond this and without say a true ranking system that can get hurt by quitting I have no real other options. Let us know opinions and options if ye have them

Can you explain further???? I have always heard about host this and that but never really cared enough to actually see if my issues were connected to be being the host.
-
Its not country based or related, its not even about your connection strength, having friends in my area using the same service provider and package some of us have had the issue and others have not. But once it stopped it never started again. There is sonething else causing it and it seems to be a case of they need to cool off the no. of players for some reason so they shove a few onto a backup system... now this is just how it seems i have no facts beyond what I and others have or have not experienced..

More talk from 343 about whats to come.. I guess time will tell, beyond that my faith is somwhere down in the toes of my shoes.
-
I agree entirely also there was something nice about knowing how good your opponents really were, the challenge of trying to beat a better player was something that drove you to improve. The ranking system they talk of will not even be visible in game and since the system clearly does not work at all this is the same as CoD in the fairness category. I just located the 343 motto '' If it aint broke we can break it ''
-
I have to agree with pretty much all that is said here, I for one enjoy Halo 4 and play away but its nowhere near the same feeling as Halo 3. I remember how happy going up a rank made me and how hard I fought to keep it.. Then you faced the lvl 50's and it was like ''this is not goin to end well'' and if you managed to pull it off the sense of accomplishment was amazing. Nowadays ranks mean nothing just like CoD a higher rank probably means you have less of a real life than the other players lol, after all a bad player still get around 2k (on the losing team) when the best player (on the winning team) only gets less than 3k points. I do not see a ranking system for this game ever really appearing or working at this stage, whatever they do will be too little too late... I still think back to the days when halo was more like an addiction than a game, I can never see that returning as 343 have tried to follow in others footsteps rather than making their own.

This is an issue that has effected random people from the release of the game, it seems that once it has happened to you it will never repeat, I had the issue back in late Novemeber, then a friends up the road from me had it in december and then another friend just as close had it in january. Whatever the cause or issue, when it arises certain people get picked at random and get thrown on a backup server of sorts to relieve stress on the main ones. Who gets picked is random and the amount of time it lasts can be weeks or hours. It has been a constant issue from the start and they have not fixed it, it is just a case of your time has come and gone and so it will happen to someone else lol..

I cannot be sure where I read it but I believe they may never make a real movie length feature of Halo, its not due to it being a success but more due to microsofta demands.. When District 9 was made instead of a Halo movie it was due to script changes, Microsofts demand for an upfront payment and royalties, the people making it were risking too much for too little return. Even as blockbuster of the year their profits would have been less than any major movie hit. I cannot testify to the accuracy of the info above just some stuff i had read since the original talk of a Halo movie release.

Wow I am not sure if any of this actually makes sense... 1. 343 do what they are told by the owners of the Halo franchise microsoft.. its a product to be sold to a customer so they should in all good sales theory do what the customer wants.. (Or maybe this is just the way I percive the world) 2. If they know what they are doing why are they incapable of keeping the masses happy, its a game and their job is to make it so that people like and keep playing it, without comparing it to any other game the numbers still playing it are near abysmal.. truth is stats do not lie. Keep what people like get rid of what they don't, sell a game fit for sale.. (Or maybe this is just the way I percive the world) 3. Nobody said it was a bad game, just that its seems to get worse rather than better.. this may be where you have misunderstood the posts. Since the release i have not seen 1 real obvious improvement just things being taken away from a game that was a bare bones release in the first place (and yes they released a map pack but that was just ok and cost extra.). Opinions are just opinions but to think I had friends playing the whole time when it was released and now I have few to none playing this game it seems the general opinion is not a favourable one. I play the game and will continue to do so, its just unfortunate that i will actually question buying the next one unless this one improves greatly. The games market is full of good games and Halo used to be a rare GREAT game, to date this is just a good game compared with others. nuf said..

I agree that they have made quite possibly the biggest mess of one of the biggest games in history lol... they took snipers to apparently fix it (thought to myself not a bad idead), but then it never returned lol. Then there was KOH which is gone from the normal playlist but is still available on and off in the crimson DLC???? It was not broken so why take it away??? The same applies for team slayer pro, they took away something that was working. On top of this they still have not got the ranking system up and going, there is no punishment for quitting games meaning join in progress system goes from a good idea to a constant pain in the arse. They also failed to bring out some of the most popular game modes, team doubles, rumble pit etc. either because they are idiots or they were not ready in time (I think many parts missing from this game were intended to be there but were not ready in time for release) All in all they had a great concept but failed to finish it... but still they released it when it was not ready... 343 + greed = End of Halo.. Still I will play I am a big BTB fan so i can still live on but many others have got bored and stopped playing so my friends list on H4 is getting smaller all the time. Sad to see.
-
They took away team snipers to do some work on it and it should be back at some point (or so they say), to be honest its been a long time now and I am not sure what they are at. KOH was fine and yet they removed it aswell!!! It would appear they released the game before it was ready and are now trying to make up for it, I mean they have to remove game modes to fix them, they are still working on a ranking system and there are loads of minor issues, all in all they did a pretty poor job on the readiness front. As for the joining games part way through well I can live with that.. if you stop backing out all the time you will stay in a run where you start at the start constantly, the way to help solve this is to make a penalty for backing out or quitting a game say minus 2k XP that way games will stay full. They need to punish people for quitting but with rank system that is hard to do. the join in progress is good as I remember the days in H3 where the enemy all quit but say 1 or 2 and you spent the rest of the round looking for someone to kill.
-
People keep saying that there is no skill in AR use but yet there is!!! In H3 I loved my BR and would always go get one but one of my friends never left down his AR and he was bloody invincible with it he had the AR/Beatdown down to a T and it worked well. I miss the days where beatdown timing was so important and you would get into mad beatdown frenzies with half the teams involved lol, saying that what a deadly game Halo 3 was............
-
Your biggest problem is that you probably try to hard and think about things too much, personally my best Halo is when i am in zombie mode after a night shift lol, I just play away not worrying and some how things just happen, other times I am really trying and things do not work. Unlike previous versions of the game and many other games there is not a lot of room for improvement in this game that I can see (at least not when you are at a decent lvl), in H3 or CoD you naturally get better as you play but here not so much. Playstyles mean more than skill, hanging back rather than running in and running away when you might lose are rewarded in this game more than any other. It might not be natural instinct (was not for me after playing H3 where it was go kill or be killed) but you have to adjust. Do not stray out on your own as if they come for you there is a chance that one of your team may help meaning you have more chance of winning the gun fight. Also aim for centre mass for the initial shots of a gun fight as the first 4 so the same damage head or body only the 5th shot landed has to be in the head. Do not be afraid to just go mad for a few rounds and try different things you will soon find some that work and will help.

So Bloody has shredded your argument and I have to say being a BR fan that the DMR is better in almost everyway, fairs fair give the BR a more distinct advantage, whatever that may be make it an obvious one. At the end of the day the DMR is the daddy of the rifles and I am not going to complain instead I just use it... but I would like for all guns to have their thing not make one weaker to justify another or why have it!!!

A question about how Halo changed and CoD hasn't
ProudDrunkIrish replied to Jamesw01's topic in Halo 4
Halo 3 was great as it kept to the same format as H2 yet added a few small things (improvements not game changers) it kept the essence of Halo and encouraged competitive gameplay. Reach was a disaster in my opinion, the only game I traded in after a couple of months.. considering I played H3 for quite literally years thats saying something.. They had too many game changers, the AA's changed the play and the change to weapons on top of this made it a new game (not what Halo was) Halo 4 much to my dissapointment I have to admit simply added to reach instead of stripping it back and putting their spin on it. The auto sprint is unnessecary in my opinion as it makes small fast paced lvl's too small to have in the game (imagine guardian with everyone able to sprint lol, even the Pit) they kept the big changes for Reach and added some CoD features.. lets be honest this is not evolution it is simply copying something from a game that was designed to have it and shoving it into a game that was not. Still the campaign holds my interest so i shall prob continue to buy the games though the multiplayer has lost a lot of its appeal, the thing that separated Halo from others was a mixture of skill being required and the out and out aggresive competition that existed in it, now we have another game of hang back and worry about your k/d, oh well i suppose all games must die at some point and I have to say Halo's fate has been sealed.... If it aint broke don't fix it cause if you try you will probably just break it. -
So its better that the DMR has all the advantages ove the BR instead???? Funny how the idea of making the BR better is so taboo considering its range is so much less!!!
-
Ditto, I always hear this complaint yet I never seem to see it.. maybe I have been mad lucky or just do not pay attention to the enemies name, at the end of the day if a new enemy (same player or diff) appears in front of you its up to you to kill him....
-
I liked the abilities as pickups, it also meant that you had to go fight for them instead of everyone just getting them, the degen was a great weapon when used effectively, the days of cammo on the pit are gone now and its just something that we are going to have to get used to I suppose.. The truth seems to be that they have set the direction of the game in the future and to reverse it now is probably never going to happen as all the new players that are used to auto AA will be pissed with that..
-
Agreed, its amazing how often people complain about teammates when they are playing for themselves in a team game. Its like that never ending problem in Ragnarok, where some sad player gets the snipes and sits in the base waiting for the opposition to come over the hill, they fail to realise they have taken a power weapon and are forcing their team to constantly respawn at the base instead of further up the map. If your team takes the hill in Ragnarok you win 90% of the time.. it is and always has been the best area to control. The same applies for many other maps thsi idea of hanging back may help a persons k/d but essentially makes life hard for their team... now I know that there are often very bad players on teams and I have been in the situation of having a very positive round and losing (actually the days I am just positive I never seem to be on the winning side lol), but I can say for a fact that when I only get a barely positive and say 14 or so kills it is often because of a camping player making it impossible to hold an area as you respawn in theirs.. Just a point to note you may be harming your teammates (may not always be the case but could often be)
-
I find there are rounds where I never really do well, but in others I can do really well. I think it is a case of you have to adjust to the way your team play as the game is designed that you cannot beat multiple enemies of they are any good. There are times when you just have to conciously not play your way. You get teammates who hang back and refuse to advance, in this situation you have to just do the same (sad I know but the new Halo). BTB is the round that this happens the most in Team slayer is prob the only one this does not happen in.

Wow another Boltshot thread that started well but has since been sent off topic by the trolls.... So to bring it back to what it was here is a list of all possible changes made by posters here: Stop it being a 1HK weapon. PRO: A 1HK secondary is a bit extreme, possibly too much so, also 10 individual bullets to kill yet 5 when charged . CON: Without the 1HK whats the point of the weapon . Reduce motion sensor distance: PRO: It would make it harder to see when you need to charge the weapon . CON: Would affect all players and with the short charge time it may make little difference if any. May also encourage more camping instead of preventing . Show up on radar when charging: PRO: Would make it impossible to camp with the weapon, even with active camo . CON: Would make anyone using the weapon an obvious target to anyone around not just their intendeed target . Fixed charge time / forced fire: PRO: Would mean that some actual skill and timing was required to use the weapon . CON: Dependant on allocated charge time (long or short) may have little effect . Shorten 1HK Range: PRO: Would make it a real close range weapon, would give shotty's back their advantage and reduce over use . CON: ?????? Make it exponentially less powerful outside 1HK range: PRO: It still has 1HK but makes getting kill shot more important, say only 50% shields immediatley outside 1HK range .. CON: ?????? Increase cool down/change weapon/reload time: PRO: Make the initial shot more important no second chance for reshot or change weapon . CON: ????? Charge shot uses entire clip: PRO: This would reduce the number of shots it has starting off to 3 or so. CON: With so much ammo for this gun on maps would it matter. Reload is very quick anyhow . Play Smarter (usual troll response): PRO: You can stop chasing people you should be killing so they do not kill you. CON: You get no kills even when you deseve them. Sounds like camp and do not move to me lol. More CoD please. So there it is sorry if I missed any suggestions, maybe we can discuss these see what are valid and thus put a list together with reasons for and against etc. which can be put on the waypoint forum...

@Bloody Initiate; Yes I could have added more but wrote the post shortly after that bad run of ordinance so it was my focus of attention. There are a wide range of luck designing features in the game (more of the CoD ideal) I suppose but having played lots of CoD I may take some of these for granted as being part of the game. @DoctorB77 Another great and helpful comment from an established member of the community.

Ordinance and teams having multiple snipers...
ProudDrunkIrish replied to wookieeassassin's topic in Halo 4
I wouldn't call it minor, I have found that while I think the drops are an interesting and in many ways a good idea they are so flawed that its not game breaking but round destroying. It often makes me leave BTB (my favourite game mode) and just go play slayer as the drops are all of some use there. The game is supposed to be about balance what I proposed keeps the balance with the drops!!! I am no computer programmer but would have thought coding for such a thing would not be a massive task as its simply setting up a sequence that repeats endlessly... (open to correction here) -
HHmmm food for though I might run a few tests of my own and see what happens.. Yeah the Hogs (normal) are very poor indeed, I see rounds where nobody even uses them anymore which is sad as they were a great weapon. They are more a quick distraction now till they die..
