Conspiracy! Lies, and Corporate Profit
Twinreaper replied to Yoshi1176's topic in General Discussion
Costco and 343i are not "divided' by a Highway, it's not as if you can't go under it. Kirkland however is also a proprietary Family Foods business, and also products that bare the same exact name can be found in supermarkets such as ALDI, which is German owned. Just to poke a huge whole in your logic, you are only taking selective numbers to achieve the desired 343 outcome. This can be done with just about anything given you devote the proper time and logic to discovering the method. Example... Yoshi is a 5 letter word. Followed by 1176 as the suffixation ending to make up your complete name. 1-7 =6 Therefore (Yoshi +1 = 6) (1 - 7= -6) (the negative doesn't matter, the result number is important) (6) Yoshi1176 = 666 YOSHI IS THE DEVIL!!!!! -

honestly armor permutations are nothing more than memory whores. While armor customization is nice, it has a huge drawback when it comes to netcode and resource handling. Network Packet and Memory Management are 2 important key features that are of a negative consequence of having over 40+ different varying base models. Add more to that in halo 4 and you have around what? 500+ varying combinations? Since there is a much larger amount of permutations to load into memory in order to display any and all variations, it also taxes the rendering layer to have to display and hold in memory all these combinations. Anything that taxes the engine unnecessarily is a bad thing. I'm not saying that this is a major cause of lag or engine studdering, but it doesn't help either. In all honesty armor permutations are quite pointless as nobody really sits there in battle and admires the configuration or has time to see it. Most of the time you only see your player model during Theatre playbacks, Spartan Ops or on the Mainmenu. And as of late, in the H5 multiplayer opening team sequence. If this were a 3rd person camera perspective game, then it would serve a true purpose.

Well depending on the title and how the interface widgets work, HUD rearranging may or may not work. In Halo specifically if I remember my tag dependency correctly, the HUD for the multiplayer characters are stored in shared.map and campaign in campaign.map. The edits we make to our character via the menu come from the mainmenu. These edits are float values that are stored as an override for the ones normally present when mainmenu loads. Editing of the Shared.map values is not occuring in any way during anything present in editing player references. I will admit though, it would be nice to be able to place the radar, health and other functions on different tangent spaces on the HUD interface. For some reason, I'm inclined to like having radar on the bottom right, and my health bar vertical along the left screen quadrant.

The text message you don't want to recieve
Twinreaper replied to Pbrabbit's topic in General Discussion
iPhones are already basically bricks Here's the problem, although the text message may display these certain gibberish characters, there is also obviously an underlying ASCII character type or other language that is not displayed. Similar to how some Android versions don't display emoticons from other phones. It's highly logical to conclude that the text message also contains numerical or alphabetical data that is actually code to execute when received. -
Will playable Elites be featured in H5G?
Twinreaper replied to Delko Elite's topic in Halo 5: Guardians
It doesn't matter who is a pro, who isn't and what level your on. To get back on topic, both Elites and Masterchief models have their flaws. In particular the Elite point was that headshots are hard to pull off from the rear. Yes it can be done but not easily especially when in a heated battle. THAT was the whole point. Here are the collision hitboxes for both Elites and Masterchief models from Halo 2, which are in fact the same size, length and width as the Halo 3 counterparts according to raw data and are only within 0.01 or 0.02 in difference in some areas. Which in spatial quantation notion value...is not a noticeable difference. Overall yes it is harder to hit an Elite with a proper rear headshot as the window is not clear and occluded by the rest of the model and the overlaying rear hitbox of the torso. Still shots are not the best as it doesn't fully show the idle animation with the rear hitbox eclipsing the head hitbox. But for all intents this will do. Here, yes the headshot from a profile view is much bigger and easier to pull off. But also notice the gap between the head and neck where you can clearly see the part of the model that is the failed collision. From the rear, there is no occlusion to the hitboxes at all in terms of heads... The hitbox for a Spartan is a smaller target from profile view.... Unfortunately it seems I didn't save the pic right for the MC profile view. Oh well, don't feel like going back and redoing the shot. As another point of interest here is another issue in which hitboxes are flawed as they interact with the physics model of the weapons. Spartans were used for this video but the result is the same with Elites. The only difference is that head on, the Spartans are harder to snipe. From the rear, Elites are harder to snipe. Couple that with the odd posture when the models jump, look and turn, and it makes the Elite model an inconsistent target to track. This was already way more work than I wanted to do as my time is limited and valuable. If anyone wants to contribute or disprove the information I have provided, may I invite you to load up the maps yourself in any one of the many editors available. I can't sit here all day hours on end proving people wrong and or holding your hand to show you where to find information. Here is a quick video of me messing around with sniping and BR shots and whatnot. One point of interest is how many shots it takes to take an elite down versus a spartan head on. In the video, you will see that due to damage effect animation, the elites take 5 BR shots to kill, and the spartan takes 4. The end result and logical conclusion is that if Elites are going to be introduced back into the playable aspect of the game, the hitboxes and collision detection need to resemble the Elites from Reach and Halo 4 and have a more consistent experience across both player models. Having one model fail in collision detection is an oversight and "can" be exploited. Both have drawbacks but need to be fixed. -

You have no idea who I am at all, so please save the "modder" talking down to speech. Perhaps you need to learn what exactly being a modder is and what it encompasses. Being a modder does not automatically place you in this evil game breaking pool of players whom exploit vulnerabilities. I can just as easily jump on halo 3 and Halo 2 and show you the hitbox errors with Elite models...so what's your point really? But please go on and keep talking about things in which you have no knowledge of or about. Your ignorance and ramblings amuse me. And again for the record, BUNGIE SAID THAT NO LEVEL 50'S WERE LEGIT, not me. I am just passing along information they released around the time of CEA about the Halo 2 and 3 rank system. I'm not burdened to prove or disprove anything, because in the end I could care less. Halo is a failing franchise with poor content management. -
Ugh I hate audio driver errors. Sounds like you have the same issue as this guy on another forum. here is the link about it and a possible solution. I would explore this more myself but I have no laptop with me to recreate or simulate the issue your having. http://www.eightforums.com/sound-audio/33977-help-dolby-audio-driver-not-working-after-8-1-update.html

Will playable Elites be featured in H5G?
Twinreaper replied to Delko Elite's topic in Halo 5: Guardians
Please, save me your teenage e-***** waving. I'm a skilled player who has been around modding/decompiling/reversing Halo games since 2002. I have a clear understanding of how things work, and I can tell you the things pointed out with Elites is not a skill problem, it is a design flaw. As for your rank, well Bungie has the server data. I am simply pointing out what they stated and they have the data to back up that claim about legit ranks. I did not claim you boosted, again I simply pointed out data and claims that already existed. Since Bungie is now a mess of a forum, you can go on their site yourself to find these statements. If I remember correctly also, they made the same claims about levels and ranks around the time CEA was talked about and why they didn't include a ranking system. -
I don't believe the OP is referring to visor color as in the helmet visor seen in the 3rd person model. I believe he/she is referring to the V.I.S.O.R. part of the game, or HUD as we call it. If I am correct in assuming this, I don't see the harm in allowing the customization of the HUD colors. If anything, the basic color works great and some colors could potentially inhibit informational HUD widgets.

Halo 3 ODST add on for MCC
Twinreaper replied to Maverick6002's topic in Halo: The Master Chief Collection
As much respect as I have for anyone in the Armed Forces of any country, that is not an excuse to get something for free. I have two kids work a full time job and have very little time to play. There were times when I would literally have to go months before having ANY time to play a game. What we do with our lives and our free time is up to us. No one made you join the military and take up valuable time. Nor did my job make me work the hours I worked. No disrespect meant, but just because our lives are busy and it takes us away from doing things we want to do, does not mean it is the burden of a company to bestow a free product or upgrade to you. This would be a completely different story if the game disc or hardware you bought was faulty and caused the issue with not being able to play. -
Will playable Elites be featured in H5G?
Twinreaper replied to Delko Elite's topic in Halo 5: Guardians
^^ For a supposed "skilled and knowledgeable player", you sure lack basic understanding of physics, collision and damage response mechanics in Halo 2/3/4/Reach. It is a widely known bug that the hitbox detection for Elites in halo 2 and 3 was severely broken. Any weapon shot was able to go cleanly through the section where the neck and head meet from profile angles. On top of that, let's also look at the varying damage effects for the elites. In Halo 2 and 3 the elite's head would reel back to the degree that a full shot of a BR would result in a 50% chance or more of the projectiles 3 burst spread, result in only having 1 or 2 successful hits. None of these things are a skill related negative point of the mechanics. What it comes down to is that the elites have a larger hitbox in some places, and a smaller one in others. Couple that with the fact that the damage response animations vary in posture a lot more than the Spartan, and it puts ANY player at a disadvantage regardless of skill level or experience. Halo Reach had a proper physics and collision model setup that is superior to the subsequent titles. Reach had a stable consistent model regardless of armor permutation or player model. There was no advantage or unclean line of sight regarding sniping from any angle. Unlike what was mentioned with the head being occluded by the shoulders and hunched posture of the Elites from Halo 2 and 3. On a side note, your claims about level or rank have no credence or clear contribution to the problems faced in 2 & 3. Bungie themselves went on to say that anything above 40 was usually a hack or a boost. There were no "real" legit level 48-50's in either title. -
May I point out also that the Xbox One is also the first console to NOT include any form of backwards compatibility? That little forgotten feature alone widdles down the library of playable games that are actually good. Well good as far as 1st party is concerned. Let's face it..... as far as Microsoft exclusives go, Halo is the only real winner of an actual title. That's not including acquired rights from companies like Sega, Rare, etc. But does it really matter which console is better? In the end, the Xbox One is still NOT profitable while sales on the Xbox 360 are. Either way, it's a win for Microsoft since your still playing their hardware and talking about them.
-
You seem to miss the point and nature of hardware/software utilization. Yes the Xbox One has better hardware, but the software for developing the 360 is better than XB1. The only difficulty with 360 now, is that the software has reached it's limitations. Xbox One is only developer friendly in regards to the architecture it is now running on. In terms of capability, software for developing on the 360 and XB1 are equal right now. we will not see any truly revolutionary coding until 2016 or late 2015 at the earliest.
-
This whole argument is a flame war waiting to happen. Caboose, good hardware does not a superior console make. The 360 may be a decade old yes, but the Xbox One has not had a chance to be even 1/4 of the way utilized to it's full potential. Simply throwing great hardware together does not automatically make games developed for it superior in any way. Hardware normally takes a good solid 7 years in order for software to be written that fully takes advantage of and optimizes hardware for perfect use. As an example, look at games from launch for the 360, versus the latest ones at it's EOL cycle. Now, compare the launch titles for Xbox One versus the EOL titles for the 360. There is very little actual difference between the code used to initialize and utilize assets, and most differences you see are simply streaming output. Meaning that the games for the 360 for the past 3 years would look just as amazing as the XB1 had the 360 been given a streaming APU output update.

Halo 2 PC Add-On: Twintacular Map Pack
Twinreaper replied to Twinreaper's topic in Halo 2 + Anniversary
Quick update. The 343i theme map that was Last Resort is coming along. Things are almost final and all the site add-ons are complete. Just need a few tweaks and run this puppy on Super lighting... Much MoM, so pink,,, As promised SD...I removed your graphic until the Destruct rebellion is squashed! -
I have reconsidered beating them to a bloody pulp. Given their unique nature, such violence would be viewed as a "hate crime". While I normally love a good hate crime, I must decline. besides, we all know this will end and fall like a house of cards in a wind tunnel soon enough anyway.

I love how everyone keeps attributing Nintendo to paving the way, and giving us a revolutionized industry. maybe you silly kids should do some homework. Nintendo didn't enter the games development arena until 1974 and produced their first coin-op games in 1976. Bushnel, Magnavox and Sega are what created the industry and Atari ran with it. Fact is most of the games and design ideas for games that we saw from companies like Bushnel, Magnavox, Atari and Sega were created almost a full decade before Nintendo even got started. So please, spare me with the whole "Nintendo is an Era Savior" theme. It wasn't until 1983 that Nintendo starting putting together development for a home console, and it didn't hit until 1985. That's a full 7+ years to the home consoles already around at the time, with a library that overshadows anything Nintendo and Sega did combined. Nintendo was late to the party and has always been since the NES came out. Nintendo banked on families coming together to play games, the motion controller schema and it failed miserably. Microsoft and Sony followed but broke off early, knowing that families would not come together to play and that the motion controllers were a fad. Sales numbers and gaming opinions don't lie. Nintendo banked on a lot of things that have put them in trouble. Just like way back in the 90's when they decided to be more "Kid Friendly" and remove the blood and gore from Mortal Kombat on the SNES. The resulting gamble was that almost everyone in the country jumped the Nintendo ship and bought a Genesis. You can't properly defend a company that has been mismanaging it's assets and hardware division for the last 20 years. Yes in the end Nintendo has a boat load of money, but very little of that is a result from direct hardware or 1st party sales in the console division. Why do you think it is that nobody really tries to make a 3DS killer? Because it's the ONLY market Nintendo knows, and kills very well. As for relevance, no THEY ARE NOT EVEN RELEVANT. They have a horrible business model that shows weakness over the last 2 decades and gen wars. They use proprietary low grade hardware components with even more so low grade handling capabilities. Their stories are not even relevant anymore. They still bank on an almost 60 year old plumber with the same reoccurring boring story of "Bad guy steals princess, fat overweight retard saves her", oops, she's in another area/world/castle. So no, you can't properly defend Nintendo or it's business practices, and your quite feeble attempt to quote, show and argue otherwise was poor and mediocre at best. "Best Answer"......what a joke that one was. Nintendo needs to re-evaluate it's demographic and business model and start adjusting to the core of the gaming world if it truly wants to survive and stay in the home console race. It needs REAL 3rd party support for AAA games. Sega tried all this before and eventually folded. granted Nintendo has more than 10x the cash Sega had, but it is inevitable unless real change and a serious push into gaming happens.

Why is there so much hate on halo: reach!?
Twinreaper replied to awesomeman245's topic in Halo Reach
This is why you are not a developer. Wow good job stating a vague description of the levels. Try this, lay it OUT...I mean the whole thing. Describe the cut-scenes to explain what is going on, the actual walk-through of the levels. Do you think players know who Blue team is? Who is Whitcomb, what is Castle....what exactly IS going on and why is it happening? You miss these fundamentals... Simply put...wading through an enormous amount of dialog and cut-scenes with only a handful of action does not a good game make. Besides which, it's a game, not life. You guys take this all this stuff WAY too seriously.
