  1. First off welcome to the forums! I invite you to go post a "Hello" thread to introduce yourself. That aside, I love this! I was a huge supporter of Drop-in at first, but after many many failed drop ins to matches that were unbalanced or more than half over...I quickly decided the same thing...drop-ins need to be dropped! Nice to see someone else thinking about this as well. Once again welcome and thanks for posting this!
  2. We are not the official 343 Industries site. Please read this... http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/35695-summer-greetings-to-all-newcomers/?p=323218 never the less, I do share your disgust for the myriad of player walls they included in the Halo's as of late. It would be nice to return to the days of Halo 2, where we could explore anywhere we were able to get too.
  3. Welcome to the forums man. I can only assume you just found us and realized....holy crap! They're way better than halowaypoint! And you sir would get a giant cookie for that. Seriously though welcome to the forums. I'd like to welcome you personally on behalf of my fellow forum bretheren and..uh sisteren? I s that even a word? Anyway, this is the best halo site and we look forward to having you around and staying active. Please look over this post real quick for me though. http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/35695-summer-greetings-to-all-newcomers/?p=323218 If you ever need anything. drop me a PM or find me in the shoutbox!
  4. Welcome to the forums man, glad to have you here. Before you venture to far, take a look at this post real quick please. You probably know already everything it contains, but I just wanted to make sure http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/35695-summer-greetings-to-all-newcomers/?p=323218 I'm the resident tough/devil/evil/tech guru/meanie of the site, at least according to 75% of the members. Which means...if you need anything, drop me a line or find me in the shoutbox! I'm the oldest active member of the site and I would like to help the new summer members transition into the site any way I can. So once again, welcome home mah man!!
  5. I hear yah. I stopped working on a lot of injection//extraction tools about 3 years ago. Got too old to keep up with most of it. Glad to see a younger generation taking up the reigns...assuming your at least 10 years younger than me lmao! Keep up the good work man!
  6. We used the same method back in Halo 2 to get AI to function. Simple projectile swap to a biped. And using the flood infection form to force the seeking and engaging effect for the spawned bipeds. Still nice to see it applied to Halo 3 now. It turns out much better on Halo 3 than it ever did on Halo 2.
  7. OP, while I do enjoy your enthusiasm for keeping things fresh and new in Halo, I don't really agree that Halo needs a new Creative Director. Please realize that the Creative Director is not responsible for what is going into the game, but is the overseer of the creative process for new assets and maps. Anything engine side is handled by the Principle Engine Architect. By default in every version of the Blam! enigine used, there is only 3 different available slots in the weapon tag for melees, and the melee responses. As it is now, it is impossible to make a random melee animation with more than 3. Even if they could add say 20 more melee assingments, those 20 melee assignment tags would need to be additionally loaded into memory permanently. Animations are a cost expensive item when it comes to memory. Which is also why reload animations don't need to be any more than one. Having 100 of them means that you now need to load into memory, about 900-1000 animation sequences. To put that into perspective, the average map itself, loading the bsp section (part you play in) (Binary Space Partition), takes anywhere from 500-1500mb's of memory. Some or most tags used in a game are offloaded or cleaned-up when not being used, but to have such a large amount of reserved pointer space in memory for these additional tags would not be a good thing. Armor on the other hand is quite different. Armor is just a flair item for a base Spartan. A permutation if you will. Now I am unsure as to what limit they have on permutations or additional slots within the mainmenu.map file to contain these armors, but chances are, there is a limit, and for a good reason. Lighting is something you can't fix straight away. Lighting in the Blam! engine is done before a map is compiled. It's a process called rasterizing, casting photons, and baking. The Lightmaps we have in campaign and MM are done before hand. That phony "generating Lighting" thing you see on custom maps...it's not really re-lighting the map. It's simply adding shadow casting to the objects you placed, nothing more. Unless they change the way lighting is handled and use a completely brand new engine from scratch, lighting isn't changing anytime soon that I can see. I mean yes, it would be nice to see the lighting from Cryengine being used, but I don't think that's happening, nor do I think you could make it happen. Sorry this is getting so long. The reason why people are getting up in arms with this thread, is because you haven't shown any proof of concept of your programming abilities other than simply stating that you could do a better job. That has the tendency to rub people the wrong way, and you cannot expect to not receive a harsh or negative response. I did enjoy the read though, but I would offer one piece of advice. Keep these kinds of things down to a minimum in the department of "I'm better than 343i", and try to focus more on wording things to convey what they are, YOUR opinions.
  8. I got mentioned three times!!! You did include 227% more Twinreaper!!! Thanks Drizzy! Oh...and FIRST!!!
  9. Weather can be added to any map and be added to forge easily actually. It would just require the maps to be per-arranged to contain the Cluster Points and Cluster Palette sections specified ahead of time before compiling the maps. But the drawback is that certain weather effects may lag gameplay and cause other issues. Aside form the obvious one, being increased map size, which means longer loading times.
  10. I would agree that the damage modifiers used in Halo 4 need to be scaled back to ressemble the one in previous Halo's. Reach got it wrong with theirs and completely almost made vehicle usage pointless. They should have damage resistance upped or at the very least have the damage constraints pass the damage off to the player at a higher rate.
  11. Can we please move my introduction thread somewhere these guys will see it upon becoming a member?!?
  12. Before I get started, this is going to be a fairly quick and small response on my part. I'm only getting involved because I feel as if the OP is now disrespecting a member of the Mod staff, and I don't take that kind of **** lightly from newbies of the site. So here is a water downed quicky version response from me... For the life of me I can't see how you can even put a thread like this up in a section for a game that hasn't even been revealed yet. YOU have no idea what mechanics will be involved in halo 5, and your whole argument is based on rabid speculation that halo 5 will have sprint or something like it. Sprint does indeed speed up gameplay. Because certain maps are larger or smaller depending on the map, sprint allows the player to get to the area in which players may be grouped or where battles are taking place a lot faster, and start engaging in combat. Haven is a good example in this case. Sprinting to the opposite side of the lower level of the map offers you quicker access to engage in a battle, than simply walking. Stating that battles take place at a longer range than previous Halo's is both an isolated incident and a choice based on an individuals playstyle. When I play on a Halo 4 map, most or all my encounters take place at a medium to close proximity, except for when being sniped or engaged by a long range weapon. For example....In Halo 2, most engagements take place at mid to long range on the map Waterworks, Colossus, District, Coagulation, or any other map that is severely large than the smaller BTB maps. Any weapon with scope will be used to engage an enemy at a distance whenever possible. Sprint does not force or encourage the player to use the scoped weapons to engage an enemy at a longer range. Again, Halo 2 and 3 both had the Battle Rifle, just like in Halo 4, and the range of engagement hasn't changed. Again, sprint is not responsible for a player choosing when to engage an enemy. As for comparison to other titles, Haven is smaller than Waterworks. Waterworks would have greatly benefited from sprint to allow players to quicker access opposite ends of the map. You could literally go on foot, walking around half the map before you would encounter an enemy. Sprint would allow for those encounters to happen much faster. I think you need some really good meds bro. You cannot argue physics and try to logically apply them to a similutaed computer environment. If someone moves faster, they feel it, plain in simple. Your argument about travel time is completely idiotic. When an actual person moves faster, they can see and feel themselves moving faster, regardless of actual distances being traveled. Thats like saying that going 80mph in a car, is the same as going 40mph in a car but only having to go half the disrance. The only variable that has changed, is the amount of time based on the distance. Again, yes maps are larger for Halo 4 for that reason. FOV does nothing to speed up the game, and it does not MAKE you "think" that things are sped up. This is again, something that happens on an individual basis and DOES NOT apply to everyone. It's all about individual perception in this case, and you quite simply cannot compensate or cater a specific feature to everyone and the multitude of individual expereinces. Show me one example of where some idiot player has complained about not being able to shoot while being the driver of a vehicle. You have NEVER been able to shoot and in some cases DRIVE a vehicle in any Halo depending on the gametype and or custom settings of a match you join. Only passangers were ever able to shoot, so I have no idea why your bringing that up. Driving a vehicle is vastly different than sprinting. You could argue that it is the same because of the traversal effect, but a vehicle when stopped doesn't allow you to shoot, and dismounting a vehicle, to the ready pose for weapon use, is longer than de-sprinting and beign able to fire. But what are you trying to say here really? By my interpretation, we shouldn't have vehicles then either since it presents the same challenge and or drawbacks as Sprint. Your quite ok with having to wait to shoot when getting out of a vehicle, but your not happy with waiting after sprinting?!? It's the same logistical factor. Your moving fast either by design or vehicle, and there is a slight wait period to ready and use your weapon. Increasing your base speed is no different than basically toggling sprint to be automatic. Think Juggernaut gametypes from Halo 1 and 2. The juggernaut had 2x speed, which is exactly the same speed sprint enables the player. Imagine playing a map like Haven with Juggernaut/perma Sprint. Chances are, other than using melee's, your not gonna hit your target very often, especially not with a precision weapon. For that matter, every Halo game has kept the same exact base player speed throughout it's history. This is completely opinion and there is no right or wrong. Whether or not cannon is more important than actual gameplay is COMPLETELY up to the person playing the game. I can just as easily say that winning is more important than a k/d spread. Does that mean I'm right? Or does that mean I am simply just more concerned about the winning factor overall? See, opinion... My opinion only has the potential to be right, because it may apply to another gamer of the same mindset. it has equally the implications and possibility to be wrong if another player has a different mindset. Basic argument for this...Bungie wanted Sprint but was unable to add the feature before the Blam! engine underwent it's massive overhaul for Halo Reach. It's a fact, that halo should have had sprint and in a fundamental way, is the FIRST game to have it, not the latter, where people think Halo is just using Sprint to be like other games. But again, that's an opinion and there is no fact or proof to be had to support a right or wrong answer. So in my opinion yes, Sprint does work for Halo, but it also depends on the map, it's layout and the people which whom you are playing against. map sizes alone do not dictate if Sprint works or not. You also have to factor in playstyles or possible ones to a good degree, the layout of objects, scenery and machines, and also the weapon placement.
  13. I don't feed into arrogant little rants of insignificant newbies. If and when and if I WANT to respond, I always back it up with proof, not opinions, so your entering a losing argument. If I really felt like challenging you, I would. Truth is, it's a waste of my time. I have better things to do. But please keep posting and assuming things...it is quite amusing.
  14. There really is no need to revise the clan system used in the original Halo 2. It worked perfectly as is. Adding additional features like clan titles and roles, justs adds that much more for you to do to actively maintain the clan, instead of just jumping in and playing. We already have a ton of apps like Xfire that can do that already, and don't require you to spend the time to maintain it on the console, freeing you up to play. But whatever, in the end it aint my problem. Just thought I'd throw in some common sense...
  15. I'm not even gonna bother responding to any of the above posted OPINIONS, and yes they are extreme opinions with extreme random not-often-found instances. All this is based on your own interpretation of the game and the events in which you have found yourself in, or the exaggerations of other players who have posted their own experience, which again, we rely on their WORD, since we were not there. Please don't use a cesspool of controlled and censored posting bull**** like Halowaypoint over here. It just irritates me to no end. Keep halowaypoint posts and opinions on things where they belong, in the garbage they were born from.

  20. I share your concerns about that one Paul. Surfice to say, we still don't know enough about the logistics of the actual lobby and MM system. We can only conclude from tweets and interviews, that the CE multiplayer will be the same exact PC style multiplayer, but brought over to console. And yes that means the original engine will be used, with only the sabre 3d engine being used for graphics mode. So your poor non-existent vehicle physics will be there as you remember, as well as the collision, sound and effects.
  21. The game is the same CEA game we got on the 360, but the XB1 has added "legacy" game emulation so the titles will run. The one change is that the multiplayer element is added. it works similar to the PC version, in the way that dedicated servers will be used to host the games, but not in the same way. matches will be using the tried and true halo MM lobby system. So it's like a blend of both for CEA. You will still have the old original engine running things, with the Sabre 3d engine running along side of it to provide the graphical/sound updates of CEA.
  22. First!!!! Hopefully...lol I think the Gauss Hog was the best vehicle to appear in Halo. It was an awe inspiring and fearfull vehicle. It was powerfull enough to destroy other vehicles and players, but not too overpowered that it was hated. It was a good balance of fear and intrigue. Unlike other vehicles like the Banshee or Tank, you actually stood a good chance of taking one out by yourself or another player without too much hassle.
  23. One reply, but many likes...lmao I'm not sure if I should feel sad for all the dads out there, or good for all the dads out there. I guess lack of replies means you guys spent time with dear old dad, instead of reading this and commenting
  24. So Bungie removed Backwash claiming "some" issue they reported from matchmaking...yet in custom games it worked fine. Very strange indeed. I can already guess as to the real reason why they cut it, due to the technical nature of said maps tagset. This actually just helped me a great deal with something. Thanks man.
  25. For your guys sakes and 343, I hope the tweet is legit and not a smoke screan.
