I was confused at what this perk did exactly, I mean I understood the first part just fine, but the last part made me question if I was taking less damage, or my grenades did less damage at a cost of hitting in a wider area. I thought it was the former as that sounds balanced. Regardless I use it. lol- 36 replies

You shouldn't be able to spawn with a weapon that has the one hit range of shotgun. Sorry, its just pure malarky. Never in ANY HALO, EVER, Have you had a secondary weapon so powerful. People said the same exact thing about Armor lock, those who were defending it. Getting killed in cqc because of Armor lock? Adapt and play differently. Yeah we saw how well that arguement went. Bull**** is bull****. It really is just that simple. If I stick you with a plasma grenade and you shed it with armor lock. That is BULL****. I had to do far more to actually stick you with a grenade, then you just pressing the armor ability button and being fine. That isn't EQUAL, that isn't fun. Not to mention it violated a golden rule in halo multiplayer, which is if you get stuck, you. are. dead. (I know 343i patched this and Armor lock is much more managable to deal with now) Its a similar principal with the boltshot. It's just not fun to play against, and alienates players that love getting up close and infighting. And when you're about to kill someone, lets say on exile in B, they just duck behind one of the many cuts to duck into, and pop out with the boltshot. And it's retardly easy to do this in turn. Just like it was easy to use armor lock to counter armor lock, making some of the dumbest fights I can remember in halo.

Boltshot needs a nerf, I'm thinking a range or ammo nerf particularly
Chris Hansen replied to sgtmattbaker's topic in Halo 4
Ok well, after using the bolt shot and the shotgun AND the scattershot in a custom game test with a friend it does indeed have the same or slightly better range for a one hit kill then the shotgun or scattershot. The scattershot is actually a very odd weapon as the shots can be bunched or displaced and never move. This creates a weapon that can sometimes oneshot people are mid range if you're really lucky. The bottom line is, in all the things in multiplayer, the only thing that truely, and CONSISTANTLY frustrates me is the boltshot. Everything else is pretty much fine with the game in my eyes in terms of weapon balance. Also, when I use the boltshot, I get almost sick at how easy it is to just own people with it. It makes Assault weapons absolutely obsolete. Since what does every assault rifle user in the history of halo do? They close the distance while shooting, not only to make the weapon more effective, but maybe to land the melee at the end. The boltshot takes these YEARS of habilitation of using the assault rifle or SMG, and throws all that instinct in the garbage. There is a counter point to this, just play better, and that actually holds up, but its HARD to go against years of halo multiplayer instinct I call it. -
If it makes you feel any better I think halo 2 was better then them all.

This guy clearly never played previous halos. He goes on to complain about the enemy team camping his in Ragnarok. That would happen ALL THE TIME in valhalla. Except its not quite as bad in this game honestly.

After playing for the new maps for a while now Harvest is awesome. It's badass on king of the hill, CTF, and straight up slayer. I would say Harvest is even better then the best launch map. It has it all, vehicle play, infantry play, and crazy ramps!
-
I played all the maps in custom games and two of the ones you speak of are god awful and forge created. The other one, the mini symetrical space station would be perfect for regicide.

You call that a boss? That was an interactive cutscene. Tartarus was awesome, and annoying to fight on legendary. I loved the multicolored elites that would come and help you and just get owned. I also loved glitching a banshee into the loading zone and killing him with that lol.
-
These gametypes are as quinessential to halo as team slayer. Single flag CTF represents the most fun in my opinion of a capture the flag game, where teams need to work together to protect thier base or expend everything to assault. Speaking of assault, the reverse CTF gametype, I've noticed that that is absent as well. Where is the team objective playlist? Where is big team 1 flag CTF? This is BLASPHEMY.
-
Before this all happens, a big team objective playlist needs to be made!!! And I understand they want use to use the new flag mechanics, but I miss single flag CTF. You know where one team defends and the other attacks? It was awesome and very much a part of halo's multiplayer DNA. Where is assault? What the **** is going on here?

Exactly, if I'm running up on someone I want to know what power weapons are on the field and what I can expect. With ordanance and different loadouts everyone is not created equal, which has been the main draw of competitive players to the halo series. As soon as I saw sprint in halo reach I knew something was seriously wrong with the overall direction the game was taking, slowing down the player but adding abilities to make them more manuverable. Hell, I wasn't even that crazy about equipment from halo 3 but at least that stuff had to obtained like power weapons.

I clicked this thinking some stupid Gears of war cross over idea. lol

Legendary with no skulls on is about the same as heroic I felt. When you start turning on skulls like mythic and tilt, and tough luck things start to get ***.

I would have absolutely no problem if the bolt shot was made a weapon or ordanance drop. Hell they could even buff the weapon if they did that. But to spawn with something like that is just absurd to me. Never in any halo ever, have you been able to spawn with a shotgun-esque secondary. The shield and melee mechanics are awesome in this game too, which as been a sour point in some of the other halo games (halo reach). Melee contests are fun again and the shots you fire matter before meleeing.
-
The problem with the bolt shot is it makes CQC combat really ******* annoying. You're using a suppressor, ar or storm rifle? Nope boltshotted. Got a shotgun or scatter shot? well guess what the boltshot's one hit kill outranges or ties both of those guns. It's like a forumula for frustration. get someone's shields down, they run around a corner or get behind something, you run to seal the deal, boltshot. I understand there are counters to this, but it doesn't make it any less annoying when you've essentially killed someone and you shields are fresh to get WTFPWNED by a starting secondary. The range is too good on the ******* boltshot charge shot, I get oneshotted in Assault rifle range by it and that's outrageous. The weapon can be fixed really easily too, just reduce the range of the charge bolts by about 2 to 3 feet. It doesn't sound like a big change but it would make all the difference in a close quarters battle. Then the weapon would be balanced, a one hit kill at point blank range, and decent mid range single shots. As it stands right now it's a one hit kill at the farthest ranges to still be considered close and makes fighting in doors a groan worthy scenario. I've adopted this weapon into my playstyle and it's overwhelmingly easy to abuse. If you can't beat em join em I guess.

I got Crimson for FREE?!?! Don't ban me, it was a glitch 343
Chris Hansen replied to woofwoof301's topic in Halo 4
Well. That's some bull****. -
I would use recon controls, as they have melee as the B button like other halos. But I can't use recon because it makes sprint the X button. This feels totally wrong and alien to me where a sprint button should be. I wish I could make clicking the thumbstick sprint on Recon, and make x button crouch. Of course, If sprint didn't exist, or was an armor ability I wouldn't be having this issue lol. I play on 5 sensitivity on default. Default offers the most versitility as it's almost identical to the control scheme from COD. if you play both games this control scheme is awesome because you can seemlessly switch games with no accidental instinctual button presses in the other game that would result in something bad, like hitting B to melee someone in COD and crouching instead.

I think the storm rifle is even better. I can do things with it that I just can't do with the AR. It had the overheat function that you can just keep shooting, allowing you to engage 2 or more spartans with ease. With the assault rifle you would almost certainly have to reload while fighting 2 or more people, killing you in the process most likely.

Halo 4 has a fraction of the lag that COD does. Ever since Black ops 1, the lag compensation has destroyed that series online. It's so bad in black ops II that it's really a joke at times. Imagine being a full 1 second behind someone in a game. You shoot a clip at them, and they kill you with one bullet, you watch the kill cam, and on their screen they shot an entire clip into you and you never raised your weapon to shoot. I wish I could say that was a rare example but it happens constantly. I can hop on Halo 4 and there is no lag when there shouldn't be. The game is ten times more fun then COD because of this.
-
Weather fans of either series choose to accept it or not, COD has a massively bigger player base then halo does. Halo 4 came out before black ops II. I think many of the big population at launch were COD players, or people just biding their time till the next COD. The population in black ops II reaches about 500,000 on weekends now. But it was 800k launch week and the days afterwards. Because of the problem that game is running into (lag compensation being utterly broken) they have lost about 300 thousand people and are continuing to decline. This game isn't the only one. Once they fix thier problems hopefully the population will return, much like what needs to happen in Halo 4. I miss the days where Halo was the king of xbox live...> <

The carbine is more difficult to use then the BR. But it offers a fast fire rate and requires it's user to be more accurate....in other words it's a pro weapon.

2 of the maps are pretty awesome, But the 3rd and biggest map Shatter, is just a mess. At least this map pack massively improved big team battle playlist, now it's not just ragnarok and exile every time. Wreckage plays awesomely in big team games as the DMR doesn't just wtfpwn everyone with the debris and cover breaking up sightlines. It reminds me of the burial grounds map from halo 2 in terms of asthetic.

Thruster pack is a great ability, best for getting away from explosions.
