  1. Two words... MORTAL KOMBAT!!! *crazy fast techno music begins to play* Most of these are very subjective entries. However the fighting franchise basically created the need for the establishment of the ESRB because of the ultra-high amount of violence it brought. If that isn't gamechanging to the industry I don't know what is.
  2. If you want good video game quotes you need not look further than HK-47 from KOTOR. "Statement: Indeed, I am most eager to engage in some unadulterated violence. At your command of course, Master." "Angry statement: If I see one more meatbag attempt to attack a Jedi with a blaster pistol, I'll kill him myself!" "Annoyed statement: Damn it, Master, I am an assassination droid, not a dictionary!" "Observation: The meatbag designated Skeith seems to exhibit a number of abnormalities. Shall I blast him for you, Master?" "Observation: I am a droid, master, with programming. Even if I did not enjoy killing, I would have no choice. Thankfully, I enjoy it very much." "Conclusion: I'm going to pull your head off, because I don't like your head." "Statement: HK-47 is ready to serve, master. Observation: Notice that I did not ask if you need anyone killed. You may be curious as to why. Answer: That is because you told me to stop asking if you needed anyone killed. So I have. From now on, I will simply say, "I am ready to serve." Yes, ready to serve. In whatever way a common protocol or utility droid might serve. It seems that... is my lot in life. Not to kill." "Translation: two per cent probability that the miniature organic is simply looking for trouble and needs to be blasted. That may be wishful thinking on my part, master." "Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope... Love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose against statistically long odds" "There is a faction of meatbags called the Sith. They want what any rational meatbag would want – the power to assassinate anyone they choose at any time."
  3. I find it odd so many people are resentful of a community they were never even in contact or involved with. Really, what did MLG ever do to you that warrants such a negative response? The fact that people are happy that MLG and Halo are no longer affiliated is evidence of the fact that they don't fully appreciate the hand-in-hand relationship the two have had in building each other up during the legacy of the franchise. As the poster above said, if you are not a fan of MLG or competitive Halo you really have no business being in this section unless you just get kicks on slipping condescending remarks just to spite fans of the league because you found it annoying they posted a few topics about getting their own playlist. I understand people that wouldn't want to be involved because they are strictly casual players; that is fine and everything. What I don't understand is people wanting it to fail. It is as if they have zero respect for the people that do appreciate the more competitive side of Halo and the legacy Halo and MLG have built together. I will admit I didn't really get into the competitive nature of the game until recently, but that doesn't stop me from seeing how much the two have been intertwined over the years and how essential they have been in shaping each other's success. You would have to be blind or just ignorant not to see it. And you don't have to be a pro to get this either. You just have to understand the spirit of competition to appreciate what it meant. In the end I don't think the blame rests on the community. I believe it falls squarely on 343 Industries and in part Bungie. 343 Industries have held all the card this entire time. They are not a team of idiots. They understood what made Halo a competitive game in the past and they chose to ignore it and appeal to casuals by including Random Ordanance drops, loadouts, and armor abilities, and broken weapons. They knew Bungie had a winning formula and they decided to go against it anyway just for the sake of a quick buck. It was never in 343's developmental team's mind to make a competitive game. They merely sought after a cash cow and they struck oil at the expense of the MLG populace. And Bungie is just as much at fault for letting their brainchild run away from them. This post isn't meant to attack casual players or anything as this isn't there fault. They just play games for the fun of it. And who can blame them? If you are not playing Halo to be competitive, there are plenty of fun things to do in Halo 4. There is nothing wrong with recreational gameplay. The real problem lies with 343 and Bungie turning their back on the community responsible for making Halo the franchise more than just a game, but a legitimate sport. Bungie really made history when they created such a competitive skill-based multiplayer game that was actually fun to watch and broadcast on live stream. And the fact that this legacy is essentially coming to an end is saddening to say the least. Like I said before, no one is to blame for Halo being dropped from MLG except for these multi-million dollar companies for being giant sellouts.
  4. I don't necessarily care about winning myself either. However I don't treat matchmaking as a way to boost a KD. When I am playing matchmaking I am normally using it to test my skills on a 1v1 basis. For example on Regicide, I never go for the king. I typically stalk the edges of Haven lookIng for stragglers to engage so I can test tactics, strategies, and playstyles to see what is effective and what is not. I treat matchmaking like practice because the stakes are low. I am sure if there was an actual reason to win I would treat it different but....
  5. I can never find anyone willing to play competitive custom games. I've stated numerous times that I am a serious player with a will to improve. my gamertag is the same as my username so if anyone is up for customs that revolve around improving your skill as a player, then hit me up. I don't care if people are worse or better than me cuz I am not judgmental.
  6. If people can put stuff like KUSH and 420 to advertise their drug habits to the world then I don't see how XBox live can have a Conscience.
  7. It sort of feels like a loved one just died. It is really weird and quiet. Like you sort of had a feeling in your gut that it would happen but you don't want to think so until it is too late. Either way I find this to be very depressing. R.I.P. Competitive Halo. On a side note, what shooter got signed on MLG in Halo's place?
  8. Well the system works both ways. Same thing with complaints about instant spawn kills. It is a love-hate relationship.
  9. Sorry mang, I am a free-for-all player. Whether it is FFA or Regicide. Later on I'm sure I'll play again cuz it is the gametype I like. Sometimes I have fun and sometimes I get P'd off. I understand you're just trying to get a one liner in, but the "hate" part in the the topic title isn't meant to be taken literally as I clearly stated I was just frustrated with the result. You win some you lose some, I guess.

    Strafe 2 Live

Yes, please do. Tell me what you think of it. I heard the best joystick movements were like half and quarter rotations with the stick.

    Strafe 2 Live

I don't think you understood me, my fault for not clarifying. I am talking about real life motion you use with your thumb on the joystick. I have tried your way and my Spartan moves very slow side to side. I feel like he may as well be standing still. Almost like my guy's movement speed isn't fast enough or something. He moves around quicker when I make clockwise/counter-clockwise rotations on the left stick with my thumb.
  12. Was your dude using a AR/Supressor like mine?
  13. Just got done on a match on Haven. I came in third when I went 19-10. The dudes in 1st and 2nd went 19-18 and 20-19 respectively. Story of my life. Sorry for the useless topic, but I had to vent my frustrations.
  14. A non SWAT playlist with no radar would be a dream come true at this point.
  15. I am starting to find a lot of these suggestions are all common sense and I subconsciously know them. I think my issue is that in the heat of battle I do not think of these things so I can panic and begin behaving irrationally. From that conclusion, the only thing I can really draw is to keep a cool head when I am playing. I guess I should practice calming down a little, but it is difficult when you are playing Regicide on Adrift and you are the king and you find yourself being cornered by one dude coming from the front via the narrow hallway and another guy coming from the back via the man cannon. Those are the situations I spazzing out on. I get the feeling that death is inevitable so I have the tendency to panic.

Can I ask something Delpen? When you strafe do you go side to side on the left stick or do you use a circular motion to strafe? Which way is better in you opinion?
  17. I have zero reason to use any other secondary weapon besides the BoltShot as the BR takes care of anyone out of range of it. If I am on Adrift and I am walking through the narrow tunnel to small Mancannon section where the scattershot and sticky detonator spawn and I see an enemy on my radar coming my way in the other direction, you better believe Ima chargin mah BS. Generally the only way people counter this is if they have one themselves (Which they generally do) or if they are one of those kamikaze sticky grenade idiots. I can't tell you how many times I have passed up the sword on the ground thinking, "I would rather have my boltshot and I pitty the fool that comes at me with that sword". Having an energy sword used to mean something. Now it is more of a liability. That in itself speaks volumes.
  18. If we toned down the range then people would just use the surpressor instead. At this point the only thing the AR has over that gun is the range it is effective at.
  19. Well, I already know about things like evasive movement, crouch shot, jump shots, and strafing and I try to practice them online. It kills my KD to use matches as practice, but I am not too concerned about having a good KD if I don't have the skills to back it up. I would rather have someone see me at 1.05 and be like, "this guy probably sucks", and then proceed to blow their mind in the match. Jokes on them. Besides, I know I am probably more of a 1.5 kinda player. The enemy doesn't need to know that. Better for me if they go into a game with a false perception. Sometimes your pregame is almost important as your actual game. When I think of this play smarter thing, like I said, I think it has more to do with an actual mindset than a playstyle.
  20. Yeah, I have just one complaint. Why on God's green Earth is there falling damage in this game? I have only had this happen on Complex so far but if I fall from too far a height, I take damage. On one occasion it actually killed me. This isn't CoD, this is Halo!
  21. If the latest news is right we won't be seeing FFA at LEAST until March. Seeing as how Doubles, Griffball, and this other playlist (forgot the name but it sure isn't FFA) will make rotation first.
  22. I used to be in the, "screw the BR, the DMR is superior in every way" camp. However, after changing all my loadouts to BR's I have to say I have been performing better with the BR than I ever was with the DMR. Don't misquote me, I am not saying it is the better gun. I just try not to stay too far out of range from my targets so I don't get murdered by DMRs and I don't get too close to anyone for fear of being bum rushed with an AR/BS. The Battle Rifle is a totally viable gun to use in multiplayer. It may be slightly less powerful than the DMR but if you play it right it can be a goood tool.
  23. Well, that is good advice and I appreciate the input. I play small and medium maps because I detest BTB. Too much chaos and I feel it doesn't really test your 1v1 skills because your enemy isn't always aware of you. I appreciate a fight where both players know that they are about to engage each other and one comes out on top due to superior skill and tactics. That is why I play a lot of Regicide until they get a proper FFA playlist. However, I don't think that will be happening anytime soon.
  24. Whatsup guys. I've been playing Halo since CE. What I realized recently was that while I have been playing Halo for years, I have never played Halo as a competitive player. I really started looking at all this MLG this and Pro that after Halo 4 came out, so I feel REAL late to the party. In fact, I am probably already too late. However, that isn't going to stop my drive to improve at this game. I have already made a topic or two about this; I am interested in improving my skill as a player. I want to aim better, strafe better, and throw nades better. When I see users talk about there skill on these forums I often see statements like: "Yeah, I used to to be bad until I started to play smarter" Well, not exactly like that, but it is generally the same meaning. So what I am asking in this topic is what does it mean to play smarter? What mindset is the best to approach this game? Does it mean stuff like, don't chase enemies behind corners, or stay out of open areas? Or does it mean stuff like know the appropriate range to engage enemies with your weapon? Cuz I already know this stuff, however I feel like I am still approaching this game wrong. I would at least like to be an above average player, so I would like to know what the correct mindset it takes to play "intelligently" like so many people claim. I understand that there are many players here with above average skills at this game so I would like to know what it means to play intelligently, if anybody would be so kind as to elaborate for someone as slow as I am, apparently.
  25. All these doomsayers that say Halo is going to fail if they don't implement a trueskill system are ridiculous. Really, where do you get the nerve to even make such a claim? Halo 4 made so much money whether it is a terrible game or not. The Halo you knew is dead and gone. People need to come to terms with this. Halo 5 probably won't be that much more different either, except that it will probably make more money because of all the gamers who will be thinking, "maybe this one will be better." Just like you thought of this one after Reach. And I would put money down on the fact that most of these people that are saying they will never touch another Halo again will be forking over another $60 in a couple of years just like they always do. And they will because they are junkies. They are junkies looking for a fix of what they had back in the mid-2000s with Halo 2 and 3. You guys want that experience back so bad you will buy anything with Halo on it in the hopes that it maybe, JUST MAYBE, give you back some piece of what you had before like crackheads chasing a high that will never be as good as the first one. That is what made you buy this Halo after the garbage that was Reach, and that is why Halo 5 will make more money than this one. All these negative nancies are just butthurt cuz they got a bad fix from their new dealer, 343. Don't worry, I'm sure the next one will be better. lol. They'll give you a mind-blowing sample at E3 and you'll be like, "Damn, man, I gotta go get the new Halo!" Then we will be right back here complaining saying we'll never buy another halo again.
