  1. Kevin, I can't get on board with your dissapointment. Like Cahill said, we've been asking for flat grass for a while and here it is! I know that we all liked the nooks and crannies of "Forge World", but we have a bunch of creative options available in the other Forge maps already. This map will fill a nice niche for everyone. As far as the island size is concerned, the largest would take you quite a while to run across. I suspect that it is just as far across as the large play space in "Forge World". Consider the map a blank canvas and there should be smiles all around. Ultimately, there is only so much that the engine can handle, and I expect to really enjoy the creations that come out of this map. Thanks 343! We're not all drinking the haterade!
  2. Great breakdown this week Drizzy! There's a lot going on in the community... always exciting!
  3. There are some great and reasonable points in here Squally! To pick up from where you talked about weather manipulation, I'd like to add that it would be nice to adjust the settings of the visual effects that are already in-game. Like photoshop adjustments, it would be nice to just have a bar adjustment for hue, saturation, and contrast. The presets could still be present as options, but we'd be able to have more subtle adjustability. I have never commited to any of the visual filters on my maps since I think that they are all just a bit too extreme. I really like what "Juicy" does for the look of Halo, but I'd like to tone it down a bit. "Dynamic Objects" should include a lift or two of some sort as well. If my suggested plot points idea above isn't a possibility, then I want a lift like "Ivory Tower" used to have. That lift was always a major hot spot for action. Obviously I agree with your interchangeable pallets idea considering that we both voted for it above. This seems like a very easy idea to impliment, which would work wonders for breaking up the visual style of a map. And yes... give us trees! Needless to say, I have high hopes for H5 Forge. This thread was never intended as a home for complaints, because I generally love to Forge, regardless of the quirks. I just hope that these notes are seen and considered for the future of my love affair with Halo.
  4. Great thread name sir! Yeah, the magnets are pretty silly at times. I've discussed them a little bit in the other thread that I just started, along with a few other issues. You should go check it out. http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/27296-the-future-of-forge-important-notes-towards-evolution/ Another thing that is annoying is when I try to use the visual elements of a particular piece to line up symmetry in different areas. There are blocks that look like the textured image is the same on all edges, but they are imperfect, like the magnets, and will screw up a straight line if you try to base them off of each other. I call for precision textures and magnets for H5!!!
  5. Apparently I need to check out Far Cry 3. I've heard great things. Here are a few ideas that I think are MOST necessary: - Some reinvention of the "Precision Forging" ability - More magnets per item with better placement (It sucks to still have to adjust object heights after snapping because they aren't flush enough... and all ramps should snap to each other side by side) - If we will still have to deal with a lighting budget or hidden piece count in H5, then give us an option to view "Advanced Budgets" - Let me choose between a few different themes and colors for each of the pieces (Skate 3 offers this feature, and it seems so simple) - Let me "Batch Grab" a set of placed objects and move them all at once. (Again, Skate 3 offers this feature, and it saves a ton of time on adjusting hard work in an area that just needs to move a couple feet) - Specific buildings, bases, and other objects that are not already symmetrical, should offer a mirrored version of themselves for use on symmetrical maps. - Most, if not all, items should be given a function set ability through the item menu that will allow the Forger to designate it as a button or activation point. - In conjunction with the "Button" tool above, a set of objects should be offered "Plot Points" that can be set to go from A to B, etc., upon activation. (This would create smooth doors, elevators, hidden passages, etc.) - It would be really nice to be able to cut away from objects. For instance, if I wanted to set a large wall and then cut a door out of it, at any position I choose. (A tool to create a custom sized floor or wall piece with an ability to cut away from it after setting would be even better)
  6. Forge: Ideas in Evolution Throughout our time with the Forge, in various Halo iterations, we've witnessed the progression of the system towards a more well-rounded experience and set of tools. Some of the changes have been invaluable and make the past look archaic, while others have left many of us in the lurch wonderning why something would be removed. Regardless of where we are now, it's important that we directly address the future and evolution of this beloved feature of the Halo franchise. While not all thoughts posted may be winners, all constructive ideas will help guide what we would like the Forge to become. Please submit your stories of both toil and love for the system, so that we can steer this ship towards a greater tomorrow! =^..^=
  7. Some really great changes were made to my "Observatory" map last night. Clarity just hit me all of a sudden. Too late for submission, but it's always nice to refine a build.

Yes it is. I will be able to speak more to your map later, but you know how good feedback and testing works for the forger.

I do indeed AD. I can't wait to discuss... feeling like an eager little kid over here. Man-child syndrome!

  9. Hey you two, we're ahppy to have you on the thread here, but we've moved on from those past questions. In order to submit a correct answer to the most recent question, look just above your posts at my most recent question posed. Thanks!
  10. Sorry for the long delay on this one ladies and gentlemen. I can see how this thread stays a bit slow... because of jerks like me! Either way, here's your next question... an easy one. First correct answer grabs the crown... Marty brought in a famous guitarist to add some serious rock style to the Halo 2 soundtrack and theme. Who was the guitarist?
  11. Submission is in! (Wipes brow)

  12. 98% build done! So close to spawns and ordinance I can taste it. Submission deadline, here I come!

that's great to hear you've taken forever to do this i can't wait to see how it is i hope you win man

  13. I purchased my first real gaming headset this year and went with the Turtle Beach PX-5. They pretty much rock my socks. That audio adjustment interface above looks nasty!
  14. Finally... some substantial progress made on my contest map! Time to fill in some gaps and start thinking about decorative cover, spawns, and weapons. Only a few days left!

  15. Who complains?!!! We'll shut that down by "asking politely" real quick! Crazy kids and their impatience!
  16. Like handheld gaming on phones, they make money through advertisement and add-ons. You'll likely see free "Basic" game modes available that will tease you into the add-ons or season passes for mulitplayer. Additionally, we may see a major spike in branding within video games. Imagine any platform of game that involves a city. Then imagine a "Coke" vending machine placed at nearly every corner. That's likely what you'll see if these release for "Free".
  17. The new Forge contest has me a bit excited. It's going to be tough to rise above the rest on this though. May the Force be with me!

Thanks Doc... I'll attempt to live up to the expectation.

  18. As always, thanks for the good times Spades... even if you think my name is Urbam Bobcat. :wallbash:
  19. Well that's it... time's up. I didn't recieve a correct answer so it looks like I have to come up with another question, perhaps a bit easier this time... perhaps. You'll find the question and answer recap below. Stay posted for the new trivia question coming very soon. Q: MJOLNIR armor is the clear choice for Spartans, but it wasn't always a success for all parties that tried to use it. Who met the first successful use, however large or small, of MJOLNIR armor with applause? A: John's fellow Spartan II, "Sam" specifically applauded the first successful use of the new Spartan armor. According to Eric Nylund's The Fall of Reach, this is how it unfolded... "(John)...willed his arm to move, and his hand and forearm sprang forward to chest level. The slightest motion translated his thought to motion at lightning speed. It had been so fast- if he hadn't been attached to his arm, he might have missed that it had happened at all. The Spartans gasped. Sam applauded. Even lightning-fast Kelly seemed impressed."
  20. Okay ladies and gentlemen, I have yet to see the correct answer. A couple answers have been really close, but not specific enough. The answer won't require a long explanation, if that helps. Regardless, there's only a few more hours before the community is sadly "Stumped" on this one, effectively thrusting my name into the ranks of the true Trivia Master. Better keep that from happening!!! Good luck.
  21. Looks like I'm going to spend a little less time on Halo for a while. I gotta keep the old lady happy since Halo 4's release has pretty much engulfed my evenings. Feel free to message me if you need something though since I'm not going cold turkey!

  22. I would suggest that no one hold their breath on a "Forge World" or large Forge update. It's just not reasonably in the cards. I agree with many of the points that have been made here, but at the end of the day, once again, we Forgers have a couple places to build with a few limitations and glitches to deal with. At this point in the Forge journey, that's par for the course. While I agree that certain mistakes were made this time around that could have been avoided, we are pretty much stuck with the scenario. If anything, I might anticipate an attempt on 343's part to adjust the ability to change custom game variants, but don't look forward to any new mind blowing map. That would be a very unexpected bonus. The basic elements of the Forge, in 343's eyes, have already been met;... exterior day map, exterior night map, interior closed in space, arena style area. In retrospect, let's look at the interesting tools that we now have as improvements; - Magnets: These sweet little babies aren't perfect, by a long shot. However, the have sped up my Forge process immensely, even with their flaws. Also, there's usually a way to line up two objects that don't have proper magnet placement with the use of other object's magnets. - Dynamic Lighting: This is a feature of much debate and has caused many headaches already. However, if you pay attention to both your build and lighting budgets while you Forge, the glitch should be avoidable. I'm not happy that we have to worry about it in the first place, but the look of custom maps certainly does get kicked up a notch when the DL does its work. I'm currently starting an in-depth map over that ran into glitched lighting, and ultimately I think that it may have been the best thing for the build. I'm now forced to reapproach the map with simplicity in mind, which will only lead to a better final product. - Gravity/Trait Zones: These have already led to several off-hand uses that trick-based Forgers love. I think that it's pretty cool that we can now make deployable bridges, elevators, trains, vehicle dispensers, and more! Are the rules of these zones flawless? No. But they are the first step to more and more control and variety for future Forge capability. Ultimately, let's keep a simple build in mind and great maps are achievable in the space provided. We all know that there is a ton of room to grow with tools, options, and build space. I just don't expect to see all of those great features come to life until we are discussing improvements for the Halo 5 Forge. Next Gen is right around the corner, and unfortunately, 343 knew that when planning Halo 4. This is their Combat Evolved, so stay tuned for their respective Halo 2, because now they have the time, feedback, system power, and experience. If after all of that they still fall short, I'll join your ranks and consider mutiny! Happy Forging!!!
  23. Cukaaaw!! Thanks to DarkStar's help, a new gametype is available for play! We've worked out a sniper variant for shooting birdies called "Trap Shoot". We'll be testing this week with the hopes of having it ready for Friday. (Eager face)

  24. Vaulting Frog is pretty darn close, but the correct answer has still not been provided.
  25. Okay peeps... Question time! MJOLNIR armor is the clear choice for Spartans, but it wasn't always a success for all parties that tried to use it. Who met the first successful use, however large or small, of MJOLNIR armor with applause?
