Hi there, My user name is John-117 and I am starting the official bulletin board for all Halo news and this is the first of many updates. Without further a due the first update. Hello there my name is Ian Bossler, (Emo Kitten 32) and I am co-hosting the bulletin board. READ THIS! The news bulletin will now be weekly with a new thread every Wednesday or so with the new news. (Emo Kitten 32) Also for those who have not seen the trailers for Halo: CEA and Halo 4 here they are: Halo 4: My link Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary: July 20, 2011 Demo mishaps: It has now been known that the demo for Halo CEA at E3 was put on god mode so they could never die and get embarrassed. Sadly this didn't help him because he still died twice in a row. What a sad moment. Pre-order for methane tanks and power armor: Pre-ordering the game will get you a skull for the game. The official name of the skull is called Grunts Funeral Skull. It has been revealed that they have made it like Grunt Birthday Party skull that was first introduced in Halo 2. They did say it is not exactly the same though. Also you get the exclusive John-117 or known as the Master Chief Armor for your Xbox Live Avatar! http://halo.xbox.com/Content/assets/en-us/blog/TheHaloBulletin/7.20.11/image4.jpg Skulls: It has been confirmed just about that they will have skulls in Halo CEA, this you should no already from my pre-order info. They have said that they will have old skulls in the game but will have some of their own! One that they wanted but could not do in order to keep the games original A.I. the same as before is when Master Chief appears in front of Grunts they will automatically run away. Now, they stated they have had one issue with the Grunts Funeral Skull, when killing a grunt; they would literally throw a plasma grenade in the air when they die. They did say it was fixed though. http://halo.xbox.com/Content/assets/en-us/blog/TheHaloBulletin/7.20.11/image2.jpg Halo fest and the title update: For those who do not know, Halo fest is August 26-28. This will be when they give us info on the changes that will be made to Halo: Reach, tell us about the title update, and info on Halo 4. If you have a twitter account and follow them, then keep your eyes open for the Friday giveaway! The will be giving away 20 three day passes to PAX Prime. So if you live in or near Seattle, I would enter! http://halo.xbox.com/Content/assets/en-us/blog/TheHaloBulletin/7.20.11/image5.jpg Who said books weren't cool? Glasslands Official press release: Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC—the largest publisher of science fiction in the world—are excited to reveal the title and cover of the first novel in an all-new trilogy by Karen Traviss that will explore the Halo universe in the wake of the final events of Halo 3. Halo novels published by Tor have sold over a million combined copies to date, and the entire Halo catalogue is now available in mass market paperback from Tor. Along with Karen’s debut Halo novel, Tor is also publishing the second novel from legendary science fiction author Greg Bear’s Halo Forerunner trilogy in 2012. HALO: GLASSLANDS will be published on October 25, 2011. An unabridged audiobook edition will publish simultaneously with the new novel. #1 New York Times best-selling author Karen Traviss has received critical acclaim and award nominations for her Wess'har series, as well as regularly hitting the bestseller lists with her Star Wars and Gears of War novels. Her first foray into the Halo universe came with “Human Weakness,” a short story from Fall 2009’s New York Times bestselling Halo: Evolutions anthology that introduced her to millions of new Halo fans. A former defense correspondent and TV and newspaper journalist, she lives in Wiltshire, England. “HALO is one of the grandest, most epic science fiction stories ever told across media,” says Tom Doherty, President and Publisher of Tor Books. “The Halo novels are one of the most popular and well-loved genre series published this century, and we’re thrilled to have Karen to continue that grand tradition.” HALO: GLASSLANDS will follow-up the events and characters from Halo: Ghosts of Onyx in the wake of the final events of Halo 3. “Although Karen’s novel deals with the characters and events from Ghosts of Onyx, it’s the wonderful new characters and scenarios that she brings so vividly to life that will excite Halo fiction fans,” says Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director for 343 Industries. “We get an incredible opportunity to explore the Halo universe in the aftermath of the Covenant war, and unveil some mysteries and storylines that will connect readers to a compelling corner of the Halo universe. I can’t wait for readers to enjoy this book as much as we have.” The Halo franchise is an award-winning collection of properties that have grown into a global entertainment phenomenon. Beginning with the original Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox in 2001, the rich fiction of the franchise has since inspired a series of blockbuster Xbox and Xbox 360 video games, New York Times best-selling novels, comic books, action figures, apparel and more. To date, sales in the Halo franchise have eclipsed $2.3 billion. Microsoft recently dropped a bombshell on Halo fans at E3 with two big announcements. Coming November 15, 2011, Microsoft will release Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a spectacularly remastered version of the original Halo campaign bundled with some of the most beloved multiplayer maps in Halo history—all created in celebration of the 10th anniversary of one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history. Also announced was Halo 4, the hugely-anticipated next blockbuster installment that will mark the beginning of a new Halo trilogy when it releases in-stores during the 2012 holiday season. Primordium It has been announced this week that the second book of the Forerunner saga is coming in fast. It is called Halo: Primordium. This book will be coming out in January 2012. Also we have Halo: Glass-lands that will be coming out in October. This will be giving us info on Halo 4. The book will be about the post events of Halo 3 and how the Human and Sanghelli relationship is coming along. Here is the announcement press release: I’m a cover guy. Without a doubt. If a book doesn’t have a nice cover on it—a cover that looks like absolute care has been given—I will rarely pick it off the shelf let alone read it. You see, over the years I’ve discovered a correlation between great cover art and what’s inside. Publishers aren’t dumb. If they have a winning book to promote, they spend the money and time in preparing a cover that is amazing. Halo: Cryptum and its sequel, Halo: Primoridum, have that attention to care. Add on a fantastic writer like Greg Bear, and the Forerunner Saga is obviously a winner. Cryptum was a fun read, got great reviews from others, and I’m looking forward to Primordium. Here is a bit more about it: A long time ago, I was a living, breathing human being. I went mad. I served my enemies. They became my only friends… New York, NY – July 19, 2011 – Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC–the largest publisher of science fiction in the world–is excited to reveal the title, cover, and release date for the second novel in the Halo Forerunner Saga, HALO: PRIMORDIUM, written by legendary science fiction author Greg Bear. Book One of the Forerunner Saga, Halo: Cryptum, is currently available in hardcover, and will be released in a trade paperback this fall. Book Two, HALO: PRIMORDIUM, will be released January 3, 2012 simultaneously alongside its audio edition. The New York Times bestselling Halo series, based on the hugely successful Halo videogame franchise for the Xbox 360, has sold millions of copies, and is part of a global phenomenon that has dominated the science fiction landscape over the last decade. With Halo: Cryptum, Greg Bear began a three-novel saga set in the era of the Forerunners, the ancient and enigmatic builders of the mysterious Halos, and the story continues in HALO: PRIMORDIUM. In Halo: Cryptum, a young, rebellious Manipular embarks on a dangerous search for artifacts belonging to the Precursors—long-vanished super-beings of unknowable power and intent. This quest sets off a devastating chain of events that nearly ends the Forerunner empire. In HALO: PRIMORDIUM, two humans who were former companions of the Manipular find themselves captives pawns in a cosmic game whose madness knows no end—a game of ancient vengeance between the powers who seeded the galaxy with life, and the Forerunners who expect to take up their sacred Mantle of duty to protect all living things. “I’m having great fun working through the action and growing mysteries in HALO: PRIMORDIUM, as humans engage in an epic odyssey across a damaged, war-torn Halo, facing the Flood, rogue AIs, and the stunning testament of the Last Precursor,” says author Greg Bear. “This is classic SF territory for me, and it’s a terrific opportunity to work with the 343 team, and to contribute through these books to both future games and the Halo universe in general.” “In Cryptum, Greg began an exploration of a vast and imposing part of the Halo universe,” says Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director for 343 Industries. “In PRIMORDIUM, he takes that story closer to the ground, exploring characters, motivations and mysteries that began in Cryptum and continuing a journey that’s fascinating, horrifying and inspiring, all at once.” Tor Books has proudly partnered with Microsoft and 343 Industries to publish every book set in this iconic universe. Along with the first two books of the Forerunner Saga, Tor has also announced another all-new Halo trilogy penned by Karen Traviss that will explore the Halo Universe in the wake of the final events of Halo 3. Traviss’s first Halo novel, Halo: Glasslands, will be on shelves October 25, 2011. Halo: The Essential Visual Guide is a vital guide to the characters, species, locations, vehicles, and weapons of the best-selling video game. Following the achievement of DK's epic 2009 Halo Encyclopedia, this essential visual guide digs even deeper into the Halo phenomenon; covering material from Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, and the latest game, Halo: Reach. Created in full collaboration with Microsoft, the book, which is available now, gives fans an in-depth look at the brave heroes, deadly enemies, intriguing species, high-tech weapons and vehicles of Halo. “DK is thrilled to get the chance revisit the Halo experience with Microsoft,” says Alex Allan, Director of Licensed Publishing for DK. “As avid gamers ourselves here at DK, we couldn’t wait to delve deeper into the old games and explore the new material,” Allan continues, “to create the most detailed look into the core of the entire Halo universe.” “After the enormous success of Halo Encyclopedia, we entrusted DK to create another must-have reference book that would provide fans with new insights and revelations into the now ten year battle for humanity’s survival,” said 343 Industries’ Frank O'Connor. The Halo franchise is among the biggest worldwide entertainment properties in history. DK secured a world language deal and expects to publish the book in many territories, and in foreign languages. Toys!: It has been announced today that McFarlane Toys is producing an Anniversary line of Halo products, here is info and the list of toys! Halo: Anniversary Series 1 Master Chief (Halo: Combat Evolved) This all-new figure portrays the hero of the Halo trilogy just as he appeared in the game that started it all: 2001′s Halo: Combat Evolved. The stylized, angular design is sure to remind long-time fans of how he appeared when he was first introduced ten years ago. This newest Master Chief is larger than our Halo 3 figures, and is perfectly in scale with our recent Halo: Reach collection. Figure comes with Assault Rifle, Frag Grenade, and the left half of the “Easy” Difficulty Plaque. Dutch (Halo 3: ODST) The heavy weapons specialist of Buck’s ODST squad joins our action figure lineup: Corporal Taylor H. Miles, better known as “Dutch.” This new figure is in scale with our previous Halo 3: ODST figures, so Dutch won’t look out of place with his teammates. Figure comes with Dutch’s signature weapon, the Spartan Laser. Dutch also comes with a Frag Grenade and the right half of the “Easy” Difficulty Plaque. Cortana (Halo 3) Originally released back in 2008 in our very first series of Halo action figures, Cortana returns for the 10th Anniversary of the Halo franchise. Cortana also comes with a knife for the Difficulty Plaque that can be added to upgrade it to “Normal” difficulty. Arbiter (Halo 2) Another classic character from our earliest Halo lines returns for the 10th Anniversary: the Arbiter, originally from Halo 3 Series 2. Thel ‘Vadam comes with the ceremonial armor of the Arbiter rank, a Covenant Energy Sword, and a Plasma Grenade. Figure also comes with the second knife for the Difficulty Plaque, upgrading it to “Heroic” level. Grunt (black) (Halo 3) The ever-popular Unggoy Grunts come in many colors and ranks, and the Halo Anniversary series introduces a new figure is clad in dark, stealthy gray armor, and comes with a Fuel Rod Gun and a Plasma Grenade. If you’re collecting all the pieces of the Difficulty Plaque, this small figure comes with a big bonus: the Elite skull that finishes the emblem and upgrades it to “Legendary” status. This iconic symbol has been featured in every Halo game, and is the perfect emblem to celebrate ten years of Halo. The Difficulty Plaque is only available by collecting these special Anniversary figures, and the more you collect, the higher the difficulty you can create! The completed plaque measures approximately three inches tall, and comes with attachments for displaying it on a desk or hanging it on a wall. Halo: Anniversary 3-Packs Master Chief Evolution 3-Pack The star of the Halo trilogy has evolved quite a bit over the past decade, and the Master Chief Evolution 3-Pack covers his three best-known versions. Representing the first Halo game is the Halo: Combat Evolved Master Chief. Figure includes Mark V armor, Assault Rifle, Frag Grenade, and a unique “low polygon count” design. Straight from the cover of the second game is our Halo 2 Master Chief, with Mark VI armor, dual-wielded SMGs, and a Frag Grenade. Finishing the fight is the Halo 3 Master Chief. This figure includes battle-damaged Mark VI armor, a Sniper Rifle and a Frag Grenade. As an added bonus, both the Halo 2 and Halo 3 versions have been recreated at a larger size to fit in perfectly with the Halo: Combat Evolved Master Chief and our recent Halo: Reach figures. Fearless Leaders 3-Pack Master Chief may be the most well-known leader of the Halo series, but fans know he’s not the only one. The “Fearless Leaders” 3-pack celebrates a trio of other bold heroes from the blockbuster Halo games. Representing Halo 3: ODST is the leader of its Helljumper squad, Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck. Buck features his signature Assault Rifle and comes with a removable ODST helmet. The real-time-strategy game, Halo Wars, introduced several new leaders to the Halo universe, including the UNSC Marine, Sergeant John Forge. Forge features his forest camouflage armor and Shotgun. The latest game, Halo: Reach, introduced players to the Spartan-IIIs of Noble Team, and their leader, Carter. The Fearless Leaders 3-pack includes the original helmeted version of Carter with his Designated Marksman Rifle and a Frag Grenade. Halo: Anniversary Series 1 – Advance Can’t wait until October? Neither can we! McFarlane Toys is kicking off the celebration early, with an “advance wave” of Anniversary figures hitting the shelves of major retailers in late July! July 22, 2011: Reasoning for multiplayer: 343 Industries is remaking Halo: Combat Evolved with a new graphics engine but keeping the same game play engine in the Anniversary edition for the Xbox 360. However, the online multiplayer component is being powered by the Halo: Reach engine which has caused some concern with fans. 343's Frank O'Connor explains the reason for the change. "The most significant change was the multiplayer component," O'Connor told Gamespot in an interview at the San Diego Comic-Con. "We had to do this in a fairly compressed time schedule. And we looked at the original Halo multiplayer engine, it wasn't built to do anything except system link and making the engine work across Xbox LIVE, it would have been possible but it would have been a massive undertaking." O'Connor continued by saying, "We also looked at the Reach player based and realized we didn't want to further fracture the existing player base so we decided to make the multiplayer in the Reach engine. Everything launches on one disk. You don't have to own Reach to play these seven new multiplayer maps." A massive title update to Halo: Reach is planned for November that will add "significant functionality" for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary to support the maps and new game modes. So as you see they explain why they have the multiplayer on the Reach engine and gave away that the title update takes play in November! The infamous weapon in the Halo 4 teaser! It was confirmed in an interview today as a new weapon, not an old weapon with an attachment. Terminals: I was able to find a secret video showing a quick teaser of the Halo: CEA Terminals! Enjoy! Stay tuned because tomorrow, I will have answered questions, let you ask questions, and give some special info and possibilities! July 29, 2011 Time for the Friday round up! I now pronounce you Spartan and Mrs. Spartan! Sometimes, when you meet that special someone, you know with every fiber of your being that they’re the one for you. It could be the sight of the sun dancing along their visor. It could be the way their soft flesh is encased in their battle-hardened armor. Or perhaps it’s simply because they put the “super” in super-soldier. Regardless, it’s all those things and more that pushed you to finally put a ring on it. A very beautiful—and very large—diamond ring, as a matter of fact. Heck, if you can’t give the love of your life a Halo ring, you might as well give ‘em the next best thing, right? While you may think I’m trying my hand at writing a Halo-themed fairy tale, this was actually a not-so-little event that took place in front of the Rooster Teeth booth last Saturday in the midst of a bustling San Diego Comic-Con. After performing a scene from a particularly memorable episode of Red vs. Blue, Matt, who was dressed up as Tucker, whipped off his helmet, dropped to one knee, and asked Sister—known in the real world as Grace—if she would marry him. I can neither confirm nor deny the rumor that she accepted. However, I can divulge that the resulting embrace was long, strong, and about to get the friction on. While my words may be perfect for a rap track, I’m not sure they convey the occasion adequately. Therefore, I’d like to request your presence at the play button belonging to the following video. Upon your arrival, please tap it. I mean, hit it. I mean… watch a couple of Spartans as they prepare to ditch Lone Wolves for a lifetime of Double Team! Terminals, recently I did a post on Terminals and showed a video for it, I have gotten a HD version of the video from 343i for this site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9A_XRkXzKQ&feature=player_embedded As you can tell from the video, we will start out with learning the back story of 343 Guilty Spark! Also from the looks of we will learn more about the flood, forerunners, maybe see the face of a precursor, more about the war, and then Master Chief just to name a few things! And yes, there will be one Terminal for each level of the game–which is a fact, in itself, connected to the story (written by Kevin Grace). I am done calling this type of animation a “motion comic” because it really is a great deal more than that. It’s really just stylized and in some ways, incredibly ambitious animation. There are probably more unique frames by far than in any average Saturday morning cartoon. Demo Redemption! And Dennis finally redeemed himself, tossing the very last plasma of the demo right into the face of a charging Elite. We were all choked up. It was like the end of Rocky IV. By the way, as I write this, I am splashing around in the water. I am doing donuts in the water. I am throwing grenades in the water. It turns out that I love any and all video game water. I also have a mania for expecting that there should be a rocket launcher, or other treasure, hidden behind every waterfall, and I continue to be disappointed in this realm. Here our some questions that were asked and answered by 343i! When will the title update be?....and why do people camp? -GSO Xt3rm1naToR The Title Update for Reach is currently slated to be available before Anniversary ships—so sometime significantly before November 15th. Both Anniversary owners and Reach owners will get it as it will be included on the Anniversary disc and also released on Xbox LIVE. PS: And it has something to do with s’mores. And the fact that it’s a legitimate strategy. Is the Combat Evolved Anniversary multiplayer updated CE multiplayer, or will it come with a Reach multiplayer disc like Halo 3: ODST? -J0HNL3I Anniversary contains the Halo campaign—updated, of course—as well as seven new Multiplayer maps that run in the Reach engine. You do not need Reach to play these, just the Anniversary disc. It all launches from one menu, just as you’d expect. Anniversary players who also own Reach will be able to install those Multiplayer maps right to their HDD. Semi-related: Reach players will be able to get the new maps too, and there will not be a significant gap between the launch of Anniversary and the availability of the seven maps as downloadable content. Will there be any big changes in the multiplayer?? –hobbito For some, yes. Others, no. Let me explain. Stuff that the Title Update enables will be presented via Matchmaking playlists. So for example, you could have a playlist with loads of changes called “ANNIVERSARY PLAYLIST” sitting alongside one called “NORMAL REACH STUFF” which plays with all the Reach rules intact. That means Reach players will be able to try some of the Title Update changes on certain maps and playlists, even if they don’t have Anniversary. Naturally Anniversary players will have more access because of the Multiplayer maps they get. Now to end this post, here are some photos from Comic-con! Holy costumes, Batman! Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade, drawing Mister, er Master, Chief.
