A Rock Band game using a standard controller and not a big plastic guitar peripheral? On the Xbox Live Arcade, no less? Madness... That's exactly what Harmonix has announced today though, with Rock Band Blitz, which looks to be a game more akin to the developer's early output like FreQuency or Amplitude. There's 25 songs that are part of Rock Band Blitz as standard, but should you own any Rock Band tracks as part of your overall RB library, you'll also be able to play them in Blitz. That means you can access potentially every one of the 3700+ tracks already available for Rock Band for RB Blitz. Rock Band Blitz's 25 tracks meanwhile, will be instantly playable in Rock Band 3. There's a pinball bouncing around, special purple keys and a bunch of other stuff too, Rock Band Blitz is coming to XBLA this summer.

Microsoft has revealed that they will be running a promotion throughout the month of April that could see you walking away 300 MSP richer. The promotion, titled "Triple Play", wants gamers to take advantage of the multitude of things the Xbox can do. We all know and love it for the games, but they've been hard at work rounding out the entertainment and social features on the console. What better way to make us take advantage of these things than to offer something for free, right? How do you get in on this promotion? Strap on your rumour boots, here’s some fresh whispers about the Xbox 720. Or whatever it’s going to be called. According to the latest reports, the next generation Xbox has been fully detailed to some third parties, ahead of a rumoured Christmas 2013 release. So here’s the details. “Multiple sources” are saying that the machine will have two GPUs, with one source saying, “It’s like two PCs taped together.” Apparently, the graphics cards are believed to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. Unlike dual-PC set-ups, these GPUs will work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously. Furthermore, the Xbox 720 CPU will have “four or six” cores, with one reserved for Kinect (which is said to be built in as standard), and one for the operating system. Most controversial, however, are suggestions that the Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure. That can't be true, right? Imagine enjoying a single-player title and the whole thing comes to a halt because your internet has died. Rage. Fingers crossed that bit isn't true
