I find walking through the woods alone at night, under a full moon, to be more beautiful than it is scary.

I guess that's what the monsters and scary things are doing in the dark when they always find you - looking for beauty.

Possibly. But I think that they live in the shadows and darkness because they are more afraid of beauty. They hide from the light because it reveals who they are. The monsters are probably just really self conscious about their appearance. They fear rejection from society so they find beauty amongst themselves in a place that they feel safe from judgment.
That's why I would always try to befriend the creatures and monsters or find a way to spare them.

They are just searching for acceptance. They feel they need to hurt or kill but they are just subconsciously filling the void... All they need is love. They think killing is the only thing, because that is all they know. So it is all they know. They live in isolation, When they are actually seeking companionship. They try to make enemies, when all they need is a friend...
