  1. I strongly agree with this suggestion, and have thinking about it more so recently. Halo Wars 2 has a mix of both microtransactions and DLC, and it works well. Microsoft get their cash, and 343 get to produce great content which we need. I'd prefer no microtransactions at all, but the way it's done in HW2 isn't half bad. They don't give each player a major advantage, and they only function for Blitz. Halo 5's multiplayer was damaged by REQ packs in my opinion. I say they were a good trial, and I did enjoy them at times, but selling them for real cash isn't true Halo. Some people say that REQs also devalue certain weapons/vehicles, remember when people would rush for a Scorpion or Rocket launcher back in Halo 3 MP? Halo 3 gave each weapon more value in the multiplayer, and its armour-unlock system was IMO the best. Don't want to go too off-topic here, but I believe DLC was generally more loved back in the days of H3 and Reach, and Halo 4. Hope to see them make a return. I do of course see the advantages of free maps and content without DLC in Halo 5, but the ability to buy REQ packs is too much of a negative aspect (IMO) for me to back it.
  2. Hi everyone, Spartan here bringing back the reiterating site poll, welcome to #62. To view Self Destruct's last poll, #61, follow this link: http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/45520-site-poll-61-easter-eggs/?hl=%2Bsite+%2Bpoll What do you think the next spin-off Halo game will be? It's been leaked that two development IDs of some sort were valid for Halo. Most suspect one is Halo 6, and another is a spin-off Halo game. Regardless of whether these mean anything or not, it's highly likely another Halo game is in development, an FPS one. Halo 6 won't be out until 2019 or 2020, it's likely we'll have another Halo FPS drop sometime soon, and it's certainly due considering we haven't had one deviating from Chief's perspective since Halo: Reach. Question is: what will it be? A Harvest game? Another ODST game? Will we be placed in the boots of another Spartan-III again? Share your thoughts down below, Spartan out.
  3. The Halo 4/5 art styles are really just different species (or "ethnicities") of alien races being depicted. This is made clear in the Kilo-five trilogy, the appearance of most Elites, Jackals, and Grunts is canon. Some are clearly not, such as the Arbiter's, and this is due to resource limits. The reason both species aren't shows is because of time constraints, and resources. The ultimate solution is to have all species shown, and this may well be possible for Halo 6. If 343 can show all species, or at least the ones that should be there by canon, Halo 6 will be almost perfect already. Of course there are many things that can be improved/developed, but the appearances in-game and in cutscenes are too important to be sacrificed. Halo's most important aspect, in many people's opinions, is its lore. 343 have done an outstanding job with Halo Wars 2. They show both the original species from "Bungie's" Halos, and the "343" species. This is what all future Halo titles need. It makes sense, and breaks no canon or lore. Why would there only be all of one species in a specific military? There would be a mix, like we see in Halo Wars 2. For the Covenant, the only "mix" we see is with grunts, and that's perfectly fine. It could make sense that all of Let Volir's crew was full of were the Halo CE/2/3/Reach species shown. We can safely assume that there were some Halo 4/5 species during the older games as well, just not depicted. The Arbiter, Thel Vadam, certainly needs his real appearance back in all future titles, but all the rest (not previously confirmed Elites) can be mixed. The Kig-Yar have 3 different species confirmed, with names. The Sangheili don't need different species names, they're not that different and wouldn't distinguish each other in that way. They Unggoy, I can't say, would love to see some more differentiation between the Halo 4/5 ones and those prior though. The reason we may see 343 succeed in this area with Halo 6 is because of the time spent on Halo 6's development; clearly a lot longer. It will most likely drop in 2019 or 2020, and will be a huge success in the eyes of it's followers if 343 mix these styles together. They could be working on it right now as you read this. It will revive the dead horse everyone keeps kicking, and grow it from a colt to a stallion. This will be even better than before, because we see things how they really are, with all species (or the ones which are meant to be there canonically) involved. If 343 don't do this, it would be very disappointing, and more hope would be lost. I'm confident they know what to do now, and have known for the past 2 years. Halo Wars 2 has reassured me, and I hope to see both styles in future titles. Bringing back the old and getting rid of the new is not the way to do it. That will only make it worse, it won't make much sense, and completely get rid of newly introduced species (which have canonically been there from the start). We need both, and I put my faith in 343 to not fail us.
  4. Mothy, don't make this a goodbye post. I doubt this is the community's "end", it'll just take some time before things perk up again. This site has a future, and always will, I'm sure things will revert at some point, regardless of how long for. The worrying thing is that we can't rely on a Halo game being released to bring back the activity. First off, HW2 clearly didn't do much justice for this site, despite being an amazing game. Secondly, when I joined near the end of 2013, things were picking up activity again and it was already a relatively active stage for me to join. MCC hadn't been announced then, and Halo 4 had been out for a year. There was not much Halo news going around, besides Halo 5 speculations. The community was still at its most active stage nevertheless. As mentioned, it'll take the motivation of various people at the same time to achieve good activity it. Waypoint has far more activity because it's official, people are already registered with just their Microsoft account, and 343 have more of a chance of seeing their posts. We don't even need to get near to Waypoint's activity to have our community back, it was the people and connections here - the almost close relationships - that made it what it was. To get that back, we just need a lot of people to join and actually stay. Many "originals" just lurk around, and haven't actually left. I'm happy to use the SB whenever I'm on, and will probably never get Discord. We just need all lurkers to talk/post more, and fresh members to stay and want to stay. Small community events between the ones that are still here can grow into larger ones. An important feature was this site's affiliations. It was a flurry of members exchanging between 343ICF, HaloCustoms, and Forge Cafe back in those days. A revamp may be needed, but depressing posts like this that dwell on the past won't attract newcomers, that's for certain. Keep strong community.
  5. Have a good 2018 everyone.

  6. Hello everyone, I am writing this post to highlight significance of the engineers in Halo 6. They should indeed play a vital role, and here's why: After the human-covenant war, humanity began acquiring Huragok, most of which had knowledge from the time of the Forerunners. This explains the major technological advancements seen in Halo 4, compared to the state of UNSC technology in Halo 3. These engineers are stationed upon every UNSC ship by the time of Halo 5, 2558, and they make technological advancements wherever possible. They were allowed to reproduce, each new engineer inheriting the knowledge of its parent(s). These engineers are essentially organic computers; biological AI. They learn, and serve humanity, with no opposition. It's like an AI without rampancy, they have no reason to fear humans, and the UNSC takes good care of them. We give them new tech to work with, and they make it even better. Did I mention they live for technology? So it's really a win-win situation, and here's how they tie in to Halo 6. When Cortana calls for all species to join her revolution, the engineers will certainly not be convinced. They essentially share the same value as us, and will support humanity and its allies against any potential threat. They have nothing to gain from joining Cortana, and will certainly remain with humanity over the Created. Despite the fact Cortana now controls the Prometheans, these engineers are aware of Forerunner knowledge that could give us the upper hand. One engineer can make a major difference, we essentially have a fleet of them. I strongly believe these engineers will play a vital role in countering the Created. Not only are they resistant to Cortana's persuasion, but they are pure intelligence which understand the Domain and how to deal with forerunner tech better than anyone else, and faster. Despite Halsey's exceptional intelligence which was certainly a valuable asset, there's nothing new that she or any other scientist can deal with better than the engineers. They are faster, and more efficient in every way than any other human. We'll need them, and should certainly see them in Halo 6. With them, we won't have to worry about not understanding anything, troops can be sent in with a definite goal assuming the Huragok have analysed everything necessary. I don't believe they'll continue to play a background role, they're now going to be more important than they've been for the past 5 years. What are your thoughts? How do you think the engineers will tie into Halo 6, if at all? - Spartan
  7. Welcome to the community.

  8. Huge congrats Church, it took long enough. Great to see this addition to the Mod team. And this just made my day, really wanting that 2013/2014 343i.org activity I joined here with. Those were the days, lets bring them back.
  9. Who is/are the most active lore-master(s) here nowadays?

Discord is easier for direct conversation than the SB on here; no contest. And unfortunately, only a complete overhaul of the site would achieve what we've all wanted for years now.

Will it happen? I don't know. In my opinion though, if we are to regrow that community there needs to be some major changes, and I think the Discord server is a step on the right path.

That's good to hear then, looking forward to more positive changes.

  10. This one's real good. The list at the end is useful as well, keep it up.

  12. Welcome to the community Castle, nice to have you around.
  13. Hello, Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with the Master Chief Collection, I would have thought all issues would have been patched by now. This is an unofficial community for 343 Industries, we are not the real company. The Waypoint forums are recommended when there's an issue, but I know from experience that they aren't always responsive. On the Halo Waypoint website, 343 Industries' official site, there is a contact link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/It takes you to the Microsoft website, they are your best bet at getting this sorted out. Access the link I've provided here and get in touch with MS, hope everything goes well. - Spartan
  14. Welcome to the community.

  15. Much respect. Halo isn't what it is without the lore. The effort you put in to such a well-described timeline is admirable, and really brings back the memories of the books I've read. I also checked your top 10 on your site, and it's great to find such a knowledgeable member on this site. Great work, keep it up. Expect a PM from me.
  16. Installation 01 will feature the XBR55 Battle Rifle, which in-use during the beginning of the Human-Covenant War. This can be seen held by Sergeant Major Johnson, back when he was a Staff Sergeant in 2525, on the front cover of Halo: Contact Harvest. This was explained by our own Church, on the official Installation 01 website: https://installation01.org/updates/1495229339 One of the modelers has developed a program for you to examine the rifle yourself. Whether other BR models will appear or not, I do not know. When it comes to maps, I believe the game will feature new and old maps. Reading more into updates and articles will help give you a better idea. Refer to the link above for more info.
  17. One of the Installation 01 forum moderators has confirmed that dual-wielding will be in the game: https://www.reddit.com/r/installation01/comments/66ycic/installation_01_qna_thread/ That thread has plenty of info.
  18. Welcome to the community.

  19. I'm not crazy for Easter Eggs unless they're lore-related, but one of the best has to be Spartan-117 appearing in a cryotube on Reach, despite the fact it's non-canon.
  20. Welcome to the community.
