The year 2013 may be old news now, but Microsoft wants to tout one last stat before we fully commit to the new year. The company says that people bought more than 3 MILLION Xbox One consoles worldwide last year since its November 22 release. The number was revealed in a blog post by Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing, strategy and business for the Xbox brand. this is what Microsoft had to say to their fans and supporters. "Thanks to you, 2013 was an incredible year for gamers, entertainment fans, our industry and Xbox," Mehdi wrote. "With Xbox One we saw the most epic launch for Xbox by all measures. We are humbled and grateful for your loyalty and delighted by the millions of hours of gameplay and entertainment enjoyed on Xbox. Together, we ushered in a new era of games and entertainment with Xbox One. Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013. It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November. Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible. The reaction from our fans was mind-blowing for our team. As we see your excitement, your energy and your hours of gameplay, we continue to be inspired to do great work – for you. Whether you’re racing through the streets of Prague in “Forza Motorsport 5,” creating crazy weapons for zombie destruction in “Dead Rising 3,” exploring the Colosseum in Gladiator mode in “Ryse: Son of Rome,” helping your children create their own personal zoo in “Zoo Tycoon,” or enjoying epic multiplayer battles, we love that you’re having fun on Xbox One. We also love that you are seeing the promise of an all-in-one entertainment system. Millions of hours of live TV have been watched and millions of hours of app entertainment have been enjoyed. We are proud to have the most passionate, engaged, and simply the best fans in the world. It was fun to share the holidays with so many of you. We’re excited for the year ahead and will be working hard to bring Xbox One to more fans and more markets around the globe. 2014 will be a promising year with many more great games on the way for Xbox One including “Titanfall,” “Watch_Dogs,” “Project Spark,” “Sunset Overdrive,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” “Destiny,” “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare,” and “The Elder Scrolls Online,” among others. More games, more features, more content, more fun – all coming your way this year. Thank you for making 2013 truly epic for Xbox and here’s to 2014! my imput: This is a lot of consoles sold in a short time and its pretty impressive that they got past 3 million consoles sold even with all of the negative things people said about the xbox one before it came out so congratulation Microsoft. where i found out about this: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/01/06/xbox-one-sold-3-million-worldwide-in-2013.aspx Microsoft's thank you letter: http://news.xbox.com/2014/01/xbox-one-january-thank-you

EA and Dice have recently sent a survey about battlefield 4 asking about their time playing battlefield 4 and the gameplay and what they think on the game all together. It's a short survey that asks you to rate your experience on a 1-10 scale then asks you to write up some thoughts on ow to improve the game if you rated it low. If you rate the game nine or higher, the survey requests that you write a short review for the game. Battlefield 4 has been plagued with issues on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with frequent multiplayer connectivity issues, as well as issues related to promised DLC. my input: im guessing that in a way this is either going to help with all the bugs in battlefield or helping make the next battlefield game better by asking how do the graphics look, rating to friends, the guns, the vehicles and other things like that and im guessing at the end they have a box where they ask you if there is anything wrong with the game or asking what bugs they have come across. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/01/05/ea-and-dice-want-battlefield-4-player-feedback.aspx

the gold visor is what im on about since some people like joker isnt even a high enough rank to see it last time i checked also im on about colours aswell since i like my colours and i know it is just for a video and for some shots we may look apart of blue team with it but almost every team out there wear their own armour choices (noble team and machinima teams) so if we have our own customisations and i could do some sort of screenshot with out name with the pic we wont need to wear the sage. also congratz kenway your now my rank

reach wasnt destroyed since the covenant wanted to cleanse the planet of humans in their great quest also if reach was destroyed how come there is a cut scene after lone wolf where the planet is in the sun and your helmet is just lying there also the UNSC retrieved your armour and melted it
-
i have a concern about the armour. as i said to you last night some members will not be able to get all the armour requirements before the date also very few of us have all of the requirements so here is what i am thinking. own armour. we all have our own armour sets and colours to make us stand out and to make us unique instead of having uniform and this is also for the vid aswell since i can try and edit something together and have it so that there is a screenshot of us and then a little montage of us owning the covenant. cant he just put it on his fileshare and you download the vids and watch them?

if you have ever played League of Legends then you would of noticed that Riot liked to swap the champions every week to keep the game fresh and gives new experiences with new characters. Microsoft and Double Helix are doing something similar with Killer Instinct to hopefully bring new experiences to Killer Instinct by putting Jago as a payable Character and putting Sabrewulf in his place as a free character. The free character rotation is part of a significant patch rolled out on the evening of January 2. In addition to the Sabrewulf swap, Xbox Live Gold is no longer required to view the leaderboard, a number of fixes have been implemented that deal with save games and login problems, and the fifth character color will no unlock properly. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/01/03/microsoft-rotates-killer-instinct-free-character_2c00_-sabrewulf-available-.aspx

Dave Roberts, CEO of Peggle, Plants Vs Zombies and Bejeweled developer PopCap (owned by Electronic Arts) is preparing to retire and the new CEO of PopCap will be co-founder John Vechey. According to GamesBeat the changes will begin on the on the 8th January 2014 PopCap recently released Plants Vs Zombies 2 on mobile devices and Peggle 2 on the Xbox one and are currently working on plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare Jason Kapalka will also be leaving around the same time as Roberts. Kapalka will reportedly be shifting into a consulting role. This leaves Vechey as the sole remaining founder at the studio. Vechey tells GamesBeat that under his leadership as general manager, PopCap will be investing new intellectual property and returning the studio to where it used to be in terms of development. "PopCap’s mission right now is to create the greatest mobile game studio in the world, and we’re going to do that by only making games that are beloved by players," Vechey says. PopCap was founded in 2000 by Vechey, Kapalka, and Brian Fiete. In 2012, the studio faced self-imposed layoffs, just a year after being purchased by EA. PopCap later closed its Dublin, Ireland location. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/01/02/report-popcap-ceo-to-retire-co-founder-to-lead.aspx

On December 31st a group known as “DerpTrolling”(im guessing there D.E.R.P) started a number of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on League Of Legends, Dota 2 and a few other games. During the assaults on League of Legends, Dota 2, and other games, popular streamer James Varga, who goes by the name of “PhantomL0rd” spoke with those initiating the attacks. The recorded stream stands as evidence. At one point, PhantomL0rd started to make a deal with the DDoSers. “I’ll put it this way,” he says. “If my team is winning, we’ll keep going. If my team starts to lose, Derp Bros, take this **** down!” When DerpTrolling accepts the deal, Varga begins laughing loudly. At the beginning of the match, PhantomL0rd gives a warning to his team saying that if they don’t win, the server will come down. Shortly thereafter, Varga's team begins to fall behind and Derp fulfills its promise, taking down the Dota 2 server. (The timestamp: 4 hours and 50 minutes.) The match went on for hours, and rather than stop streaming, Varga watched his viewer count skyrocket past 100,000. All the while, he displayed advertisements and raked in new subscribers at $4.99 per month per membership. Varga put his channel in "sub mode," which means that the only way to participate in the conversation via chat is to pay. As Varga’s stream continued more games were taken down, including Disney’s Club Penguin, he revealed in his role. “It’s chill to intervene with you, the public, the fans, and with these guys” he says. As PhantomL0rd watched his revenue increase, EA, Riot Games, Valve, Disney, and others were crippled and their businesses impacted. Yet, Twitch allowed the stream to remain live. It allowed Varga to casually make deals with the DDoSers in conflict with Twitch's own terms of service. Had Varga simply stopped streaming. Had he contacted the authorities rather than delighting in “intervening,” perhaps like any child getting a reaction for his or her antics, the malefactors would have grown tired and moved on. Twitch should have locked down the stream and enforced its own terms of service, and by doing so cut this off at the knees. Later Varga had a follow-up video and during the video he stated “I’m sure there’s an argument out there about why didn’t I just stop.” “What people have to realize is that this is a job. I am in charge of a business so to speak. When this business is doing its best and breaking records, you don’t really stop. I was going to hit a record and I was excited. It’s so cool, and you guys were all there with me. It was big."(Timestamp of the video: 41 minutes). Varga continues to explain his decision throughout the next minutes of the video. He suggests that the DDoSers would have moved onto another stream. “It probably still would have happened, or at least that’s how I feel.” “My reasons were just,” he says. “I’m an Eagle Scout. I understand good morals, and I knew from the get-go that what was going on wasn’t right.” It’s just a shame that neither Twitch nor PhantomL0rd acted on the knowledge that what was going on was wrong. Through inaction, Twitch enabled criminal activity. Through greed, PhantomL0rd put himself above the publishers and the rest of the players. Both should be held accountable. Ten Franchises Microsoft Needs To Bring Back For Xbox One
Akali posted a topic in General Discussion
Microsoft isn't known as a company with as many original franchises as Nintendo or Sony, but some research reveals that they own a surprising number of dormant franchises. Here are my picks for the properties that Microsoft needs to bring back from the dead. Battletoads Those of us who grew up in the NES still remember Battletoads for it intense beat 'em up action, amazing (for its day) graphics, and extreme challenge. Microsoft acquired Rare in 2002, and with it many of its intellectual properties, including Battletoads. A rumoured GBA remake never made it back in the day, but we think a small team at Rare could make a great retro downloadable game with the old 'toads. Blue Dragon As much as Microsoft has struggled to succeed in Japan – even the successful Xbox 360 barely made a dent in the country – it ironically created a couple of the best JRPGs of the past decade. Blue Dragon was a magical adventure cast in a world created in collaboration between two legends of Japanese game culture: Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Dragon Ball and Chrono Trigger artist Akira Toriyama. Console RPGs of this caliber are (sadly) a rare thing these days, and we'd love to see Microsoft give us another chance to experience the world of Blue Dragon. Conker's Bad Fur Day Conker's Bad Fur Day's profane platforming antics have earned the game a cult following that endures to this day. In the waning days of the N64, Rare revived one of its dorkiest creations, a small squirrel named Conker, as a foul-mouthed idiot who went on a gonzo adventure and eventually squared off against a boss called the Great Mighty Poo. It was pretty racy for its day, and I think it a well-written, funny new Conkers game could have a lot of appeal as a downloadable game for a generation raised on South Park. Crimson Skies As much progress as games have made, one of the sad by-products of said progress is the fact that many genres seem to have fallen by the wayside over the years. The arcade flight shooter is one of them. Crimson Skies is a great franchise, set in an alternate version of the 1930s, and has spawned a couple of games and a collectible miniatures board games. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge for the original Xbox is one of the most underrated games Microsoft made for the console. Surely there's still room in the industry for a well-made flight shooter. Crackdown Crackdown is a strange case. It seemed to have everything going for it. At the beginning of the Xbox 360, it was a breakout success for Microsoft – a brand new successful IP in the rapidly expanding open-world genre. Then, things seemed to fall apart. First, developer Realtime Worlds said that Microsoft didn't want a Crackdown 2 and that it had moved on to the development of the ill-fated APB. Then, Microsoft said it did, but handed it over to Ruffian Games. The result? Crackdown 2 sold poorly, APB flopped, and Realtime Worlds went out of business. However, the fact remains that the original Crackdown was great, and that a co-op futuristic sandbox game is still a damn good concept. Black & White Peter Molyneux has split with Microsoft for the world of indie development, but the company still owns the rights to the hilarious, inventive Black & White franchise. A "god game" in the truest sense, Black & White allowed you to act as the hand of almighty and lord over the villagers of the world in a humorous and lightly strategic game. While Molyneux is not likely to return, I think an inventive team of young developers could have a ball with this concept. Also, this is one of those games where the imagination of the idea exceeded the polish and execution of the finished product. I think there's a ton of potential here that could be untapped with better technology and design. Lost Odyssey The second of Mistwalker and Hironobu Sakaguchi's unjustly overlooked Xbox 360 RPGs was Lost Odyssey, which was more serious in tone and art style than Blue Dragon, but no less impressive. Based on the saga of Kaim, a man blessed (or doomed) to live for 1,000 years. The had a great story and interesting ring-based battle system. It deserves a second chance on Xbox One. While it couldn't be a direct sequel due to the story of the first, perhaps, like Final Fantasy, it could tell a different tale in the same universe. Mech Assault Day 1 Studios' MechAssault was a great action game for the original Xbox, and now would be the perfect time to bring it back. An online-only, multiplayer-focused mech game would be an excellent way for Microsoft to enter the free-to-play space on Xbox One. With a low barrier to entry, you could attract a large, World of Tanks-like following of gamers who would be willing to buy different models of mechs, parts, weapons, and attachments as microtransactions. Banjo Kazooie Sensing a pattern here? Rare has slipped from the ranks of the industry's top developers, and there are a lot of great franchises that have become dormant. Banjo Kazooie isn't the hippest property, but it's also worth nothing that there hasn't been an attempt to do a traditional platforming game in the franchise since the year 2000. With the power of the Xbox One, I believe you could do a great 3D Banjo game on a modest budget as a download-only game. Viva Piñata The Kinect 2 included with the Xbox One is an impressive piece of technology; it's a pity there's not much to do with it besides menu navigation. The Viva Piñata series has a lot of potential to be the kids-oriented killer app for Kinect. The 360 game was cute, but just imagine what could be done with pinatas with Kinect, especially with augmented reality video effects. You'd also have that same appeal of playing with small virtual pets that Kinectimals had, and could even experiment with things pinata creation tools and easiers, gesture-based level creation. my franchise that they should bring back: trials because although it may be frustrating at times it is a very fun game and some of the crashes are so brutal you cant help but to cringe at some of the crashes and some of them are hilarious with some glitches like you head being stuck a ramp and your body is loosing control whilst your head is shaking frantically. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/01/01/ten-franchises-microsoft-needs-to-bring-back-for-xbox-one.aspx -

High Moon Studios’ Deadpool might not have been the best game of 2013, but the Merc with a Mouth (voiced by Nolan North) seems to have taken the less than glowing scores personally. Activision’s Marvel-licensed title has disappeared from a number of digital delivery platforms. The burrito-shaped hole was first noticed by NeoGAF user “Delusibeta.” We have confirmed that the title is absent from Steam, Xbox Live, and PlayStation Network. If you’re a PC gamer, you can still buy Steam codes via Amazon and Gamefly. Physical copies of the console versions are also still available. We’re following up with Activision to see if Wade Wilson is gone for good or if he’s just pulling a classic Deadpool prank. We’ll update once we know more. If you want to embrace your inner psychopath now, you can get your Deadpool fix in Lego Marvel Super Heroes, LittleBigPlanet, and Marvel Heroes. my input: i dont know why they have done this because deadpool looked like a fun game but i did hear it was over done with sex jokes and the enemies were quite repetitive but apart for that it looked like a good game

This year wasn’t dense with horror games, but thankfully our round-up list of the scariest moments isn’t limited to a specific genre. Any game is eligible as long as it had a specific moment that elicited a shock or gnawing tension. Our Scariest Video Game Moments of 2013 list includes events from non-horror titles like BioShock Infinite and more predictable games like Outlast. Warning: Spoilers Ahead Routine Run Gone Wrong – State of Decay This open-world zombie survival game delivers an omnipresent sense of dread. Supplies and survivors are finite, so being careful is critical. Establishing a base and strategically making supply runs to nearby buildings is the logical way to do things. That way, if too many zombies appear a mission can be scrapped and you can quickly run back to base. But given the unpredictability of Undead Lab’s title, a routine run can be botched thanks to a broken weapon or accidentally stumbling across a horde. Having to run for your life or risk losing a precious survivor is among the terrifying moments of 2013. Return of the Water Monster – Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs One of the standout moments from Amensia: The Dark Descent involves being stalked through the water by a deadly invisible beast. A similar creature returns in A Machine for Pigs. Players are walking across rusty catwalks high above pools of blood when a walkway collapses. Falling into waist-high blood is bad enough, but then the splashing footsteps of an unseen foe close in from behind. Wading through the macabre pool to evade certain death is a standout moment from thechineseroom’s title. Meet the Clickers – The Last of Us Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic masterpiece starts off with a shocking disaster and gut-wrenching loss. The following battles against rival survivors are tense and difficult, but the true horror of the cordyceps fungal infection doesn’t sink in until Joel and Ellie enter a dark, abandoned basement. Players lack both sufficient weaponry and knowledge of the clickers at this point. It’s difficult to forget your first death at the hands of these fast, ravenous foes. Sneaking past these blind abominations is made more nerve wracking thanks to their extreme lethality. The Boys of Silence – BioShock Infinite The BioShock series isn’t focused on delivering scares, but its moody environments and deranged inhabitants are frightening in their own right. BioShock Infinite takes a turn into ‘80s slasher territory when Booker has to sneak past a pack of masked maniacs that can be stirred into a murderous frenzy by the bizarre Boys of Silence. After carefully sneaking past these initially docile killers, one of these creatures appears out of nowhere. The jump scare is accentuated by the unsettling alarm it raises. The Marker’s Touch – Dead Space 3 Isaac Clarke is no longer vulnerable to the psychological trauma caused by the volatile Marker artifact. However, his new partner is not so lucky. During special co-op missions the player controlling Carver experiences hallucinations linked to his family. Where Carver might see unnerving birthday party decorations for his distant son, Isaac sees coffins. The mental disconnect between these characters makes trekking through the necromorph-laden corridors even more suspenseful. Horror Vision – The Oculus Rift A host of prototype horror games hit the Oculus Rift this year. Combined with headphones the VR headset can easily isolate players, forcing their faces into dark worlds. While any of these Oculus Rift games are likely to cause sweaty palms and an elevated heart rate, Dreadhalls is specifically effective. The game senses when you look down in real life to check your map, spawning enemies closer for a grim surprise upon looking back up. The in-your-face visage of a bloody woman and following shrill scream are enough to make players rip the device from their heads. Death Strikes – Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen One of the most dangerous foes in this expanded version of Capcom’s challenging RPG is death itself. The Grim Reaper phases into existence wielding a lantern and his trademark scythe. The magical light puts your entire party to sleep, allowing him to ready his blade and chop you all down with one fell swipe. His unpredictability and overpowered attack make for a nasty surprise to those who haven’t saved recently. Unless your party is leveled to end-game standards, your best bet is to run like hell when he suddenly appears. The Doctor is in – Outlast The brazen journalist who enters a suspicious insane asylum in Outlast has a predictably bad time. One of his most frightening situations involves a deranged doctor who performs some impromptu surgery. The doctor is wearing little more than an apron, flaunting his flabby butt as he readies his sharp instruments. He then proceeds to surgically remove your fingers in a gory display that will catch the weak of stomach off guard. The Critical Oversight – Papers, Please This indie document-checking simulation is a monotonous yet entertaining grind, but intense surprises are sprinkled throughout. Players must defuse ticking time bombs and gun down kamikaze attackers. Yet the most nerve-fraying experience is waiting to hear the dot matrix printer sound of a citation being printed out. Screw up too many people’s papers and the harsh government begins docking your pay, which means your family may die without food and heat. Our Pavlovian reactions to that old-school printer noise are forever imprinted in our psyche. The Screecher Attacks – Don’t Starve Don’t Starve’s short DLC offering features a camper trying to escape a park while being stalked by an awful monster. The original Don’t Starve already has an underlying sense of dread and fragility thanks to its oppressive wooded environment, scant resources, and manipulative insanity system. The Screecher adds a new element similar to horror games incorporating Slenderman. Shining your flashlight on the owl-headed Screecher causes the beast to sprint after you. Stumbling upon the twisted creature when it’s too late is a harrowing experience. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/12/30/ten-of-the-scariest-video-game-moments-in-2013.aspx my scariest moment in video games in 2013: i would say amnesia a machine for pigs because that game is just all around scary and dark and you see things that make you jump like a chair on the wall or something in a mirror that scares the life out of me.

There has been a lot of praise heaped on Respawn Entertainment from those who have had a chance to play the studio’s first title, Titanfall. In the comment sections and social media channels though, there is some skepticism that the title won’t just be Call of Duty with mechs. After all, many of the individuals at Respawn departed Call of Duty’s original studio, Infinity Ward, with Vince Zampella and Jason West. A member of the Respawn team has offered up some thoughts about how sniping will work in 2014 title. “Sniping is in the game, but due to how the game plays it's a pretty different animal than you'll find in your run of the mill modern military shooter,” a Respawn staff member named “scriptacus” wrote in the company’s forums. “Quick scoping and no scoping are ineffective.” “No scoping” is the act of shooting a scoped rifle from the hip in hopes that power will compensate for a slower rate of fire. “Quick scoping” is using a game’s assist when aiming down the sites to snap to an enemy for a quick kill. Both are terms that have been popularized by Call of Duty on consoles, where auto-aim and aim assist are used to compensate for the lower precision of controllers versus mouse-and-keyboard. We’ve reached out to Respawn Entertainment for any additional information they might be willing to share now. Titanfall is due out on March 11, 2014, for Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. You can read our hands-on preview from Gamescom and catch up with our coverage in the July 2013 issue. Update: Shortly after posting this, we received word back from Respawn. "We'll have more information to share in the new year," a Respawn Representative told Game Informer. my opinion: I find this very good news because i have played call of duty where people do alot of quick scoping and it ruins the game also i have alot of friends who think there a boss at call of duty because they quick scope so hearing this for a game that i am really looking forward to is great for me but for some it may not be good news. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/12/30/report-titanfall-will-include-snipers-but-no-quick-scoping.aspx
