  1. Considering streaming some Warframe tomorrow night, to celebrate my first year of playing - would anyone be interested in joining/watching?

I'll watch if you play it on console ;P

No, it'll just be on my own channel Yang, probably best to keep the forum's Halo-specific. Sadly I don't have it on console, Ash, but the PC version is a few updates ahead anyway.

      I'd join...but I don't have a strong enough PC to play Warframe. If it was Console, my Nova would be at the ready to play with you though. ;-;

  2. Well spotted! You're right, the participating award is supposed to be white rather than gold, I'll get that updated soon.
  3. As some of you may have already noticed, over the past few days we've launched a new set of images for our various Awards, courtesy of the very talented Self Destruct - whom I'd like to take the opportunity to thank publicly for his outstanding work! However, this isn't merely a much-needed upgrade to the aesthetic side of our Awards, but instead just one part of a much larger process which began in the increasingly prematurely-named Spring Update to overhaul the way in which we manage our Awards. I took your feedback on board, and so came up with a set of goals for the update, as listed below: To standardise the appearance of the various Awards, in terms of both size and style To give an explanation of how to earn each Award in a concise, approachable manner To make individual Awards feel more meaningful by reducing the overall number To make individual Awards relevant by removing outdated, redundant, and non-specific Awards To enable faster and more appropriate Awarding by defining specific criteria on how to earn each As part of this programme, we've identified around twenty Awards to receive visual updates and descriptions, from an original sixty or so: as we enter the end of this update process, the forty Awards which were not selected will be removed from the site. For those members who will be affected by the removal, we have introduced the new 'Inheritor' Award, which is a special, one-time consolation gift and cannot otherwise be obtained (although we will distribute it again should we remove any further Awards in the future). As far as I'm aware, we've managed to get this out to all affected members: however, if you discover that you've lost an Award without being compensated, please let us know in the Missing Award Thread and we'll rectify the situation as soon as possible! You can find the new list of obtainable Awards, as ever, on the Awards tab, along with their updated descriptions and visuals. We hope you'll enjoy the new Award system, and as ever, please let us know what you think!

  5. As far as I know, yes. Twitch streaming is integrated into the Xbox One, so provided you get a copy of the VoD before it expires (or have it set to interact with YouTube) you shouldn't need any special hardware.
  6. If I can just quickly throw this out there - so far as I understand it, if you stream to Twitch, it automatically stores streams as VODs for a little while afterward, meaning if you can get access to a computer you should be able to transfer any successful runs to YouTube that way. If anyone who's familiar with Twitch would like to weigh in here, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it. And from all the staff here at 343industries.org, we wish the very best of luck to everyone attempting a Mythic run of Halo 5!
  7. We have a new Member of the Month! http://343i.org/36s

  8. With the advent of October we're now just a few weeks away from the release of Halo 5: Guardians, and the chance for Halo fans everywhere to find out what happens next in the ongoing saga of our favourite franchise. But for members of 343i.org, we have an early treat in the form of our Member of the Month. And of course, at a time where we're about to welcome in a new Halo game, who could be more appropriate than a member famous for his grasp of Halo's gameplay? When he's not busy making Legendary look easy, he's usually found in the shoutbox teaching others to do the same, with his mastery of not just gunplay, but also his deep understanding of Halo's weapons, missions, and enemies. With a plethora of tactics both conventional and innovative, a persevering, patient demeanour, and an uncanny ability to crush the Covenant, if you're having trouble there really is nobody better to go to for help. Whether or not you've already benefited from his advice, I hope you'll join me in applauding our newest Member of the Month, Axilus Prime! Congratulations, Axilus! We look forward to hearing how you fare in Halo 5 - and may your aim be as true as your wisdom!
  9. I don't know if it's necessarily a spoiler - indeed, the fact that they've openly stated that the Chief was killed is itself suspicious, as Spartans famously never die but just go M.I.A. Plus, it's not as though trailers haven't lied before - Halo 4's had very little to do with the game, after all.
  10. Thinking I might finally cave in and add some profile music - do people like autoplay stuff or should I just update my links?

  11. Not sure what control scheme you're using, but at least for me you move up and down using the right analog stick - when you look up, you go up, when you look down, you go down.
  12. You kidding me? That slow little thumb drag across the back of the chip slot just about had me in tears. It's interesting to see just how different the tone is between Blue and Osiris though, and I hope that comes across during the gameplay.
  13. Would have been Halo 3. Way back in 2008, I was trying to decide which console to get - and frankly, I was leaning more toward the PS3. Having never owned an original Xbox, I had however played both CE and Halo 2 at friends' houses and LAN parties over the years, and while I'd thought CE had some good ideas if being a little sloppily executed, I hated Halo 2 so much that I tried to avoid it as much as possible, and never really bothered trying Halo 3 as a result as I was told it was basically more of them same. Come 2008, I switched schools, and ended up joining a band. To start with, we'd practice at the lead guitarist's house, who was a big Halo player, and since we needed something to do while taking breaks from practising, we ended up playing Halo 3. I was quite reluctant to play at first, bearing in mind how I felt about Halo 2, but I was amazed to find that it was actually pretty fun - very fun, in fact. I liked it so much that after a while, we probably ended up spending about three quarters of our practice sessions playing Halo, which is no doubt partially why you've never heard of us. By the time came to make the decision about which console to get, I went for the 360 on the strength of Halo alone, and I've been playing it ever since. In terms of why it's appealing? There's a lot of things, but I suppose the core one is that Halo has never been afraid to change (and I'm aware that's why a lot of people don't like it anymore). Every new Halo game has shaken up the status quo, trying new things and introducing new mechanics, and so it each new game feels fresh and interesting instead of just more of the same with slightly better graphics. Across the franchise, Halo is one of the most diverse out there in terms of how the games feel and the content of the games, and for all sometimes I feel like that hasn't worked (chunks of Reach, elements of Wars, the entirety of Halo 2) I still look forward to the new ones because I'm excited to see how much further the game has evolved. And, for Halo 3 specifically? Because it's as close to perfect as an arena shooter can get, barring a few issues with the spawning system. The physics are just right, movement is fast but controllable, aim assist and magnetism are helpful without being overpowered, the weapon sandbox is balanced, vehicles are tough and effective while still able to be countered through intelligent play, grenades are absolutely perfect in terms of supply, fuses, and bounces, and while it's not exactly graphically intensive the art style means that even now it's still a damn good-looking game, and one which I would argue looks far better than even Reach or Halo 4.
  14. Staff Response This topic is rapidly getting out of control. Thread locked.
  15. I became a moderator and went mad with power. Staff Response Thread locked.
  16. Any spoiler content from Halo 5: Guardians is banned across the whole site until the stated deadline has passed, and will result in disciplinary action regardless of whether or not it is enclosed in spoiler tags. Spoiler content from other Halo media (such as Hunters in the Dark, Escalation, and older Halo games) may be posted as normal: the spoiler rules posted in this thread apply exclusively to Halo 5: Guardians.
  17. As a reminder, please do not post leaked footage, as it could potentially contain spoilers and we're trying to avoid those.

  18. That's an excellent point - I'll see about getting the Halo 5 forums removed from the ticker until the end of November.
  19. Read our policy on Halo 5: Guardians spoilers: http://343i.org/35s

  20. Update As a reminder, we do not allow the posting of leaked gameplay or other content, as these often contain spoilers. You may, of course, continue to post footage from the Beta and any other media released deliberately by official sources. Posting of leaked content will be treated with the same punishments and warnings as posting spoilers. --- Hello all, As we're now less than fifty days from the launch of Halo 5: Guardians, it's time to lay out our policy on spoilers. Please read the following information very carefully, as it explains both when and how it is permitted to post spoilers, and the punishments for doing so incorrectly. This topic will remain open and pinned for reference both above Shoutbox link bar and at the top of the Announcements forum until the start of December: if you are at all unsure about these rules, please ask here. When can I post Spoilers? There is a blanket ban on posting spoilers until 9am EST on Monday the 2nd of November: this is to ensure that those who cannot play until the weekend, due to school, work, or other weektime commitments, are able to experience the game without any spoilers. After this time, all topics must be tagged as either 'SPOILER' or 'SPOILER-FREE', until 9am EST on Monday the 30th of November: this is to help players make informed decisions about the kind of content they wish to read, and avoid accidentally reading spoilers or posting them in a supposedly safe thread. During this time, no spoilers will be allowed in thread titles. After this time, spoilers may be posted freely without tags. Where can I post spoilers? Spoilers may only be posted in the Halo 5: Guardians forums: do not, for example, post spoilers in the Halo Lore forums, the shoutbox, or status updates: you may talk about spoilers via Private Messages, but only once both parties have confirmed that they are willing to do so and accept the risks. You may continue to post about non-Halo 5 spoilers, such as the content of Escalation, as normal during this time. Spoilers may only be posted in threads marked with the 'SPOILER' tag. How can I post spoilers? All threads in the Halo 5: Guardians forums posted between 9am Monday 2nd November-9am Monday 30th November must be clearly tagged with either 'SPOILER' or 'SPOILER-FREE', and should be titled in a suitably vague way (for example, 'How Johnson dies at the end of Halo 3' is not acceptable, but 'Johnson and the end of Halo 3' is okay). If you're not sure whether your topic title is vague enough: it isn't. Make it vaguer. If you are posting in a 'SPOILER' thread, you do not need to enclose your posts in spoiler tags. What happens if I post a spoiler against these rules? If you post any spoilers during the blanket ban, your account will receive a warning point and lose its ability to create content (such as posts, status updates, and shouts) until 9am EST on Monday 30th November. If you fail to add the correct tag when starting a topic - whether it contains spoilers or not - your thread will be deleted without warning or notification. If you misuse the 'SPOILER-FREE' tag when starting a topic, your topic will be deleted without warning or notification and your account will receive a warning point and lose its ability to create content until 9am EST on Monday 30th November. If you post a spoiler in a SPOILER-FREE thread, or post spoilers outside of the Halo 5 forums (even if they are clearly marked and tagged s such), your post will be deleted without warning or notification and your account will receive a warning point and lose its ability to create content until 9am EST on Monday 30th November. --- I know these rules may seem a little harsh, but the Moderating Team is committed to ensuring that everyone has the chance to experience Halo 5: Guardians at their own pace, and can make their own, informed decisions about whether or not they wish to consume spoiler material. Your support of this policy helps keep the forums a safe space for all Halo fans, and that everyone has the opportunity to discuss Halo 5: Guardians in a way that suits their experience with the game.
  21. I know I'll get a lot of flak for this, but the honest truth is that I actually really disliked armour customisation in Reach. It's not so much the visual design as it is that I don't like how much it affects the player's silhouette and outline. Some of the bulkier attachments, like the Grenadier chest piece and EVA shoulders, are extremely large, and yet they don't count as a part of the player's hitbox, thus obscuring your view and making it just a little harder to tell whether or not a given shot will hit your target - which is particularly frustrating for competitive play, especially in a game with reticule bloom. Things like attached cameras and armour on the helmet also interfere with judging the size of the head hitbox, and that of course is a huge issue in a game like Halo, where headshots are absolutely vital. The other thing I didn't really like about the Reach system was the method of using credits to unlock various armour pieces - it wouldn't have been so bad if the costs were low, but most armour was extremely expensive, and a lot of it was gated off behind rank anyway. I'm definitely hoping for more of a Halo 3-style system this time, where armour is unlocked through your achievements in-game. What I saw of it in the beta looked promising in that way, but I don't know if they've confirmed how armour is acquired or not yet. In terms of restricting us to just body, helmet, and visor, I have to admit I'm a little bit disappointed. Provided all armour segments are equally sized and don't interfere with hitbox size and outline, I don't really see the issue with allowing us to pick bits individually - extra customisation is always nice, and taking it away without explanation is a blow. Then again, perhaps it's to allow for more detail or better animation around connected body parts (Reach was atrocious for clipping), and ultimately it is purely cosmetic, so while I can't say I like having customisation options removed, it's not a huge issue for me.
