  1. After an unveiling marred by controversy, Microsoft has done everything in their power to try and win gamers back to the struggling Xbox One by insisting that the upcoming platform will have the best games of the next generation. Concerns over apparently inferior hardware and the revelation that a significant amount of the system's memory would be reserved for use by the ever-divisive Kinect peripheral were dismissed with the promise that any games released on the console would look just as good as those found on the rival PlayStation 4. However, in recent days both Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward and Battlefield developer Dice have confirmed that while the newest instalments of the incredibly popular franchises will natively render in full 1080p resolution on the PlayStation 4, the versions found on the Xbox One will only be capable of rendering at 720p. In layman's terms, this means that putting your favourite military shooter disc into a Microsoft console will leave you with less than half of the pixels to be found if you were to put its counterpart disc into a Sony machine. What were shrugged off as negligible deficiencies in hardware have apparently proved to be far less irrelevant than promised. Does the lower resolution frustrate you enough to reconsider your next-gen purchase, or do you feel that there isn't enough difference between 720p and 1080p to get worked up about? Let us know what you think in the comments below. View full article

  6. Looking to play some Halo 3 or get your hands on some of its DLC? http://343i.org/1da

  7. What's better than playing one of the most popular Halo titles ever released? How about doing it for free! For the rest of October 2013, the series' debut Xbox 360 title is available to download from the Marketplace at absolutely no cost for anyone with a Gold subscription to Xbox LIVE. This is a title that every Halo fan really should play, and a great opportunity to replace broken or damaged copies for those who no longer have working discs, or for those who never had the chance to pick it up the first time around to experience clasic Halo at its finest. It's also worth noting that both the Heroic and Legendary map packs are now also available free of charge, as is the standalone map Cold Storage. The Mythic II map pack is also temporarily half price for Gold Subscribers, so even if you already own Halo 3, this is a fantastic chance to get hold of any DLC you may have missed. All members of 343industries.org should note that due to the free nature of this DLC, it will be included in any future Halo 3 Community Events - so to ensure that you can participate fully please ensure you download this content before the offer expires.

  10. Staff Response These rumours are patently false and it is in the interests of all members to ignore them and continue with their daily routine. In no way, shape, or form do members of our staff draw their magnificent non-existent powers from the publishing of articles, the manipulation of minds, the sacrifice of infants, or the drinking of fresh human blood.
  11. Congrats on reaching the big 21 - hope you're feeling better soon to enjoy all the new perks!

  12. So apparently I still know how to play Halo 3...

I don't. I completely forgot the proper tactics for it, being more used to Halo 2 and Reach.

  13. "Halo - It's finished!" "No. I think we're just getting started." They're back. As most of you have noticed, it's been some time now since our weekly custom game playdates were running, and even longer since the days of full lobbies and lengthy play sessions. Some of you no doubt thought that they were gone forever - that we'd given up on the dwindling lobbies and decided that there was no point in continuing, that with so few of our members able to attend we'd chosen to focus our energy on finding other ways to interact with the community. But here at 343industries.org, we're nothing if not resilient: our staff saw in the ever-shrinking numbers of players not a fate to be accepted, but a challenge to be overcome. We knew that even if the existing system of lobbies weren't working, the one thing you can guarantee about a forum full of Halo fans is that if there's one thing they all love, it's playing Halo with their friends and fellow members. And so instead of simply shrugging off our playdates as a failure, we set out to make them better than ever, to make them so good that they would be completely unmissable. Introducing the Future. From now on, instead of just holding a playdate where you can get together with your fellow forum-goers for a few rounds of Halo every weekend, we'll be announcing a small number of individually-chosen, specially-selected Community Events every month. We've put a huge amount of work into exploring every corner of the Halo fandom to compile a collection of the finest maps, minigames, and content for use in our new Community Events, and we're going to continue to add to that with new ideas and material every single day. From now on, interacting with the community won't just be restricted to playdates every week: instead, while the opportunity to kill your fellow members for points will most certainly be returning, we also have a whole slew of new contests, tournaments, and prize giveaways that we can't wait to introduce, covering every aspect of the Halo universe: regardless of whether you want to take on Halo's gamer elite in a fast and fair competitive setting, forge masterpieces worthy of the Forerunners themselves, or delve into the mysteries of the expanded universe, we have something that you're going to love. To inaugurate our new programme, we'll be giving you the chance to directly thank those who've been working on it for the past few weeks as the infamous Halo 4 Staff vs Members playdate makes its glorious return. This first event begins on Saturday, October 19th 2013 at 3pm CST (9pm GMT) We hope you'll come along and participate in the first of our new Community Events. And if you're already looking forward to that as much as we are, then you'll be even more amazed when you see what comes next!

  19. I read your 'about me'. You owe me a million dollars :P

  20. We have new staff members! Check out the announcement here: http://343i.org/1ch

  21. I'm very proud to announce that as of today, the staff here at 343industries.org will be expanding with not just one, but TWO new arrivals! The first of our new additions is someone who has already been consistently proving himself for some time with his contributions to the News page, ensuring that the latest updates from the world of gaming are delivered directly to us in his engaging, accessible style. Ladies and gentlemen, with contacts all across the world of gaming and some of the finest penmanship in videogame journalism today, please give a very big round of applause to our newest News Group member, COOLIEST! Our second new staff member is extremely well-known around the forum for his friendly attitude and wicked sense of humour: but less well-known is that he's already been working undercover for a whole month as a secret moderator to help protect our members. With a penchant for shooting senior staff members in the head over Xbox LIVE and employment credentials that include working as a CGI designer for both Roosterteeth and our very own machinima "Forging the Future", I hope you'll join me in welcoming our newest Community Moderator, CHURCH! These two members have more than proved that they deserve positions on our staff, and I'm pleased to finally be able to publicly recognise them for their hard work: I have every confidence that both of our new staff members will be fantastic additions to the team, and I'm sure anyone who's familiar with them will agree
  22. They bring out playlist updates every week, although I think they cycle DLC playlists every month or so.
