  2. I can get plenty of kills in Slayer! Just not nearly as many as I did before they removed friendly fire.
  3. It's not just a rare award, it's practically legendary! There's no way anyone can get it without doing something truly amazing for our forum, so actually getting it is practically worth MoM status in and of itself. It's even better when the recipient is such great MoM material anyway - absolutely outstanding, BZ! Thoroughly deserved
  4. If you want to go for a very strict law of averages, the mean K/D ratio is slightly less than one. For every kill you get, someone has to die. That means if 10,000 kills have been made, 10,000 deaths have been recorded. In pratice deaths are always a bit higher, as betrayals and suicides incur deaths without adding to the 'kill' counts of individual players, but strict mathematical laws says that the most average player in the world will have one kill per death. Realistically, most players will have a K/D anywhere between about 0.8 and 1.5. If you're below a 0.8 K/D ratio, yours is below average: if you're above 1.5, yours is above average. If yours is between those two, you're pretty average. The simple fact is that due to the laws of maths, your K/D is always more likely to be heading toward 1 than away from it. Even then, there's no point making sweeping judgements about players based on their K/D alone. It's pretty easy to get a strong K/D if you make heavy use of power weapons or vehicles, or if you play a lot of Objective games: you'll have a particularly good time if you play a lot of Flood mode and have a strong connection. Likewise, a weaker connection or playing a great deal of infantry-based Slayer is a good way to get your K/D to about 1, as it's simply very, very difficult to get a lot of kills in Slayer unless you're willing to accept quite a few deaths, too.
  5. Great topic, Caboose! For me, it sort of depends on whether it's just a straight remastering with updated graphics, or whether it would get engine/gameplay upgrades too. For a straight graphical overhaul, it's got to be Star Wars: Battlefront II. That was a really amazing game, and even though the physics could be a little glitchy, the AI could be quite poor and it had a fair few bugs, I'd still buy it up in a heartbeat for the upgraded graphics alone - even more so if they retooled the online modes to work with more players! For a sort of remake, I'd go with Phantasy Star Online. I spent horrifying amounts of time on it as a preteen, and with a few upgrades to the gameplay and mechanics, it could be even better. It'd also be great to have the character roster expanded a little, something the later games did right, even though they sacrificed a lot of the stuff that made the first so good.

  9. On behalf of all of us at 343i.org and THFE, I would like to extend a massive thank-you to everyone who was able to make yesterday's playdate as fantastic as it was, whether you were watching one of the live-streamed lobbies, signing up and taking part personally, or just helping spread the word. This is the single largest event we've ever had by quite some margin, and it literally couldn't have been done without you. You guys are absolutely amazing and getting a chance to spend a few hours hanging out with you, shooting at you, and in one case screaming like a little girl as I was pursued round and round the same corner over and over again by one of you with a gravity hammer and the unlimited sprint package, was an absolute pleasure! I'd also like to extend my personal thanks to both Drizzy_Dan and AbleSir Thomas for their incredible and tireless work behind the scenes, from organising and structuring everything in the first place, to doing extensive playtesting of literally dozens of maps so that we'd have only the best the game has to offer, to hosting and streaming their own lobbies on the day. I've never hosted a playdate of my own before, and these two made it so much easier and less stressful for me than I was expecting - without either of them, the playdate wouldn't have come close to being as awesome as it was, so if you enjoyed it half as much as I did, make sure to let them know! In addition, I'd like to recognise the work and efforts of a few more people. In no particular order; all of the forgers who made an extra effort to have their maps tested and polished in time for the playdate, and who were happy for us to use their work; Insignia, for his awesome announcement banner; AbleSir Thomas, for his brilliant announcement video; all of the players who saw that video, and decided to sign up to the site and join in as a result; GermanShepardD, for making it impossible to balance the teams in whatever lobby was in; JL X4, for his willingness to stream a second lobby; and finally, to all of the players who stayed with my lobby until the very end, in the full knowledge that they wouldn't be being streamed, but who were happy to make sure the lobby survived anyway. Everyone who attended will be receiving a playdate award soon - due to the unprecedented size of this event, and just how many people we had joining in across all three lobbies for the duration of the playdate, we're still compiling a list of everyone who attended, and we want to make sure we don't leave anyone out when it's time to hand out the awards. Rest assured though, it may take a little while, but you won't be left out! We also still have a full list of all the maps used in yesterday's playdate, and links to their download pages on Halo Waypoint. They'll also be staying in my fileshare for the rest of the month, if you'd prefer to find them in-game and would like a single spot to find them. You guys rock!

  11. At the beginning of the Human/Covenant War, the Spartan-IIs were issued Mark IV (4) Mjolnir armour: this occurred in 2525, one year before the attack on the Corbulo Military Academy. The latin symbol 'IV' (4) looks very similar to 'VI' (6), so it's possible that you either misread it, there was a typo on the wiki, or that the author himself wasn't familiar with the latin numerical system or just made a good old fashioned mistake. In 2551, the Mark IV (4) was replaced with the Mark V (5) Mjolnir armour, which itself was upgraded to the Mark V v2 (5, version 2) in 2552, during the Battle of Reach in August. The version 2 variant was only in service for two months, as it was replaced by the Mark VI (6) in October of that year. Also worth noting is that while the standard Mark V (5) armour looks quite different from all other variants (and did not, in fact, appear to have a 'standard' configuration until the second generation), the Mark IV (4) and Mark VI (6) have a very similar appearance. Therefore, while in Forward Unto Dawn the Master Chief's armour appears quite similar to the armour he'd be using 27 years later, they are in fact two very different sets.
  12. For Custom Games, I'd really like to see the ability to tweak the traits of individual loadouts beyond spawning weapons and equipment: set up one class to move faster, one to have more health, one which gets unlimited use of Armor Abilities, etc. It would open things up a bit more in terms of making class-based multiplayer gamemodes. For Matchmaking, I just want to see them putting some proper Objective modes back into Big Team. Slayer alone just isn't very fun.
  13. I know as a moderator I'm supposed to be impartial... but I have to say, the Xbox One looks like a complete disaster. None of the big questions directly answered, and instead we learn the bad news about those answers from other sources. A complete disgrace and a sign of just how much the industry has started taking the consumer for granted.

I agree with Spectral Jester on this. If I have a friend who wants to play for the achievements, then I say I should be able to let him borrow the game and let me suffer the consequence of not being able to play it. This is getting ridiculous Microsoft, if you shut down Xbox 360 servers and force us to go to Xbox One servers. Not only will you be losing ratings, trust, and money; you might as well lose consumers. If this gets any worse then we all might as well rely on Apple with gaming.

  14. Okay, best of luck getting it all sorted out!
  15. First things first, are you actually banned from either Xbox LIVE or any of Halo 4's online components (Matchmaking, Spartan Ops etc.)? If you're banned from either of these things, that's why you can't upload. If not, it's possible that you've uploaded something in the past which was banned, recently had some content reported and are under investigation, or have had previous action taken against your account, either in a Halo game (some form of ban) or related directly to Xbox LIVE (an official warning of some kind). It's also not unheard of for some gamertags to be blacklisted from uploading content: if your gamertag or profile contains anything offensive, you may be being blocked as a result. if you've never had any previous warnings from Microsoft or individual game developers/publishers, and are sure that there's nothing offensive or rude in your gamertag and profile, you could try contacting Microsoft directly to see if they can give you any information about any restrictions on your account, and if that fails you could move on to speaking with 343 Industries.

  18. 'Fortunately' - a word I use in the loosest possible sense - this kind of thing has been going on for years in MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger, so it's almost certainly just a continuation of that rather than anything to do with our site. You definitely made the right decision though, pretty much any site which advertises through irregular methods is going to be involved with something shady. As far as we know, we've caught and disabled all of the spammers so far before they've had a chance to cause any actual harm: we're hoping that some new security features we're adding to all new accounts, plus making a public statement, will help deter spammers from targeting our members.
  19. Did you know that while the coloured gems given out to recognise post counts up to one thousand are categorised as Achievements, anything higher is categorised as an Award?
  20. Did you know that for almost the entirety of my MoM status, I was a secret moderator?

  22. We have filters which prevent most of the spambots from joining the site and creating accounts: last time I checked, there were several hundred spambots blocked in a single day. We've now got new filters which are even better, so there's a lot less of them managing to get through than before. However, the system isn't perfect and there's always a few which manage to join the site: sadly once someone has signed up, there's no way for us to tell whether they're here to cause trouble or legitimate members until they start posting. We also don't want to start banning people just because we're suspicious that they're here to spam: we need to wait for proof. Part of why we've made this announcement is to help ensure these spammers are dealt with as soon as possible: the faster our members report them, the faster we can deal with them, meaning the less likely other members are to be spammed as well.
  23. Whoops, sorry, thought I'd sent that from this account. ...damn it, ninja'd!
