  1. Does anyone know if there's still the four-player restriction when playing Firefight Versus? 2v2 does't seem like it would be a lot of fun...
  2. I really do hope this is fixed, that looks like a terrible problem!
  3. If 'Nades are still going to be able to do collision damage, there should be a medal for killing an enemy with a direct impact - I think they're capable of doing headshot damage too, so perhaps there could be a separate one for that? Perhaps they could be called 'Tapping Out' and 'Not the Face!', or something.
  4. I completely agree, imagine if in Modern Warfare 2 the M4A1, FAMAS, M16, ACR, TAR-21, SCAR, FN2000, and the AK47 had been even remotely similar! Anyway, to pull this to pieces, the Plasma Rifle works very differently fro the Plasma Repeater and Assault Rifle as it does extra damage to Shields and less damage to Health, as well as slower bullet travel times so that it's devastating at close quarters but weaker at longer distances, although it makes an excellent support weapon. Anyway, map sizes - that's why you carry two weapons with you. You have a DMR or a Battle Rifle for mid range combat and an Assault Rifle for getting up close. I don't really see how you can complain about the Needle Rifle and the DMR doing the same thing on one hand and then asking for a DMR and Battle Rifle on the other. If you want raw variety, the DMR is more powerful than the Needle Rifle and has higher recoil, but can scope in further, so what you've suggested is actually already in place. They fill the same role, but how they do it is different. Anyway, there really have to be at least two weapons which fill roughly the same role for most situations - one for each faction - as otherwise it becomes harder to balance the game and gives less variety in set pieces. Now, that's not to say there can't be weapons here and there which are exclusive to one side or completely unique - there is no functional equivalent for the Plasma Pistol, for example, or the Brute Shot. Most weaponry however needs to have a rough equivalent, and there certainly need to be balanced faction-specific varieties of any general purpose weapons like the DMR or Assault Rifle.
  5. I'm getting a headache just trying to work that out.
  6. ...it's been a long time since I did maths. Thanks for pointing that out, it's fixed now!
  7. I assume you mean that the first bullet had a 1.5% chance to land somewhere other than the dead centre, right?
  8. I thin that's actually down to bullet magnetism rather than Bloom, the former of which really has been in all automatic weapons in the Halo series.
  9. At some point someone is inevitably going to point out that 'Bloom' refers only to the visual representation of a weapon's accuracy rather than how accurate it actually is, as if terminology somehow defeats the whole argument. So before I start, I'd like to make clear that 'Bloom' in this context refers to degradation of accuracy, not the size of the crosshair. Someone will also probably claim at some point that Bloom has always been in Halo. No, it hasn't. The Assault Rifle and Pistol in Halo: CE suffered from Bloom when the trigger was held down, and that was it. The Assault Rifle in Halo 3 was not more likely to hit closer to the centre of the reticule the shorter you held down the trigger. A bullet from the SMG was completely random in where it hit in the crosshair regardless of whether it was firing its first ever round or the last of an entire of an entire burst. Same thing with the Carbine, the Spiker, the Plasma Rifle, and any other weapon you care to mention except the Battle Rifle. With the Battle Rifle, the first bullet of each three-round burst would land EXACTLY in the middle of the crosshair. The other two would land randomly somewhere within the reticule. The second bullet would not be more likely to land closer to the centre than the third. They would not, however, land exactly in the centre. This is not governed by Bloom. I personally don't like Bloom because I feel that it takes control away from the player. Yes, I know you can pace shots to reduce the level of Bloom. I don't buy it, though. If I pace my shots better than someone else, there is still a chance that their shots will hit me and I will be killed. Bloom doesn't mean that bullets are necessarily going to be less accurate: there's nothing that means when a reticule is fully expanded that shots are more likely to hit closer to the outside of the reticule than they are to the centre. In fact, you are exactly as likely to hit right on the edge as you are dead in the centre. If I have an SMG, recognised as an inaccurate weapon, I can control the situation by closing to an effective range or swapping out my weapon for something more accurate. If I have a Plasma Rifle I can lead my shots. If I have a Battle Rifle, I can maximise my chances of killing an enemy by aiming first at the body and then the head. My weapon has a set accuracy and I know how likely it is to hit an enemy at a certain range. Bloom takes my control away as I suddenly have to go by the laws of chance. Yes, I can pace my shots, but the other player might spam and kill me in five shots while I'm still lining up my third. In short, I dislike Bloom because pacing my shots doesn't mean I'll be more accurate, only that I'm more likely to be accurate. More of my shots probably will hit than my opponent, but it doesn't guarantee that they will. Now, if Bloom had some sort of system whereby shots did not land completely randomly inside the reticule, and were more likely to land near the edges than the centre, that would be much more acceptable as spammers are much more likely to lose any given engagement. As is, it's too random and often rewards players who are less accurate and less trigger disciplined. The Halo series claims to provide competitive gameplay, and introducing chance into combat weakens that claim. Now I'm not one of these morons who'll demand everyone should be incredibly competitive or should just go and play another game if they disagree with me. If you want to use a game to chill out and have a laugh, and you prefer having fun to a high k/d or TrueSkill score, that's great. But that doesn't mean a game shouldn't be competitive. If whether you win or lose comes down not to your own ability and that of your opponent but to a probability matrix, then any win you might have is cheapened, and any defeat doubly frustrating because you know if you repeated exactly the same fight on another day the outcome would be different.
  10. If you want to be picky, Reach's Mark V is a Mark V first generation, while in CE it's a Mark V second generation. So says Halopedian, anyway.
  11. I actually can't think of a complete deal breaker. Unless the core gameplay is fundamentally changed I can't see myself swearing off it altogether. I would prefer if Bloom wasn't in, as I personally believe that it eventually comes down more to chance than the ability to pace shots regarding who wins any given engagement, but I wouldn't stop playing if it were in.
  12. The Sniper Rifle is easier to use purely because head hitboxes seem to be slightly larger than in previous games and players move a lot slower - it's easier to track your target. As Mystic said, it doesn't have anything to do with bloom unless you're playing with Bottomless Clip on, and even then only if you really spam the heck out of it for a very long time.
  13. Getting a kill beyond a weapon's aim assist range should earn a medal of some kind.
  14. I like the idea of multiple Assault Rifles - perhaps they could both kill in the same amount of bullets, but one could be a lot less accurate or the other could have a smaller clip but higher firing speed or whatever. Just as long as they don't have exactly the same role. 4 shot kill feels comfortable to me, as 3 is just too fast and 5 would lead to kill times just being too long - that's why the Assault Rifle and Plasma Repeater in Reach are so weak.
  15. I think that the first person to quit in Doubles should be punished with death by stoning. Normally I don't care about quitting too much but seriously, the quit level is just ridiculous.
  16. The Mark V torso is the default one. There isn't one that looks the same as the original Mark V that the Master Chief wore in Halo: CE, though.
  17. Okay, Bloom. Let's start there. In its current form, it hasn't always been in previous games. Every weapon had a set reticule in which bullets would land regardless of how fast or how slow the trigger was pulled, the exceptions being the Pistol and Assault Rifle from Halo: CE. I don't like it because I personally believe that any shot you fire should hit or miss depending on how accurate you are as a marksman, not how accurate your weapon is. While Mystic is right in saying that it's a lot better now that the TU has been implemented, I don't like the idea that even though I'm pacing my shots to keep my DMR accurate, my opponent just spams like crazy and is still able to kill me because he gets lucky with where his shots land. Yes, I'm aware that there was bullet spread and a degree of chance in previous games that shots would hit or miss even if they shouldn't have. But the key difference is that in the Battle Rifle the first shot of the burst would always land exactly in the centre of the reticule, allowing for more accurate fire and less reliance on chance. I think Armor Abilities were actually quite a nice idea, they just were implemented badly. They would have been better off as pickups and they weren't properly balanced, but it was a nice idea and it has potential. I dislike the apparent reductions to movement though, players feel slow and heavy now and it really is too difficult to get away from 'Nades and explosions - more so than in previous Halo games anyway. The other problem I have that nobody ever seems to bring up is the physics engine. Collision damage just feels so awkward and overwrought, walking into the side of a tank should not result in instant death. Or possibly even any damage at all come to that. Finally, button glitches and Halo 2 glorifying. I'm going to be controversial and say Halo 3 was much better. The gameplay was much tighter and more balanced, everything felt more refined and it was a lot less buggy. Button combos should not be in a Halo game. Period. If you beat someone it should be down to your personal skill, not because of exploits or luck or you have better equipment or a better position that you didn't earn in-game.
  18. Jester's right. The bad news is that you're actually still less than half way to Inheritor!
  19. Have you ever wondered exactly how good you are with the Sniper Rifle? There's a simple way of finding out. > Go to your Reach Service Record at Bungie.net > Go to 'Medals' on the sidebar on the left, under the 'Career Stats' subtitle. > Write down how many Sniper Kill medals you have > Go to 'Weapons' on the sidebar on the left, just below 'Medals' > Write down how many kills you have with the Sniper Rifle > Use a calculator to divide how many Medals you have by how many Kills you have > Multiply the resulting number by 100 > Congratulations! This is your Sniper Headshot %! For example, I have 610 kills with the Sniper Rifle, and 430 Sniper Kill medals. 430 divided by 610 is 0.7049, so my Sniper Headshot % is 70.49. This will give you a rough indication of how good a sniper you are - the higher the number, the more likely any kill you get will be a headshot rather than two body hits. Of course, this doesn't account for how many shots just miss altogether - luckily for me, or mine would be much lower. This can be a fun way to compare how you stack up with the rest of the community, and if we get enough people to answer we can work out a rough average. So, what's your Sniper Headshot %?
  20. Are you sure the credits themselves went down, not the 'credits to next rank' bar? It's also possible to just rank straight up after getting the credits from Waypoint - I went up from General II to General III immediately - so you may have actually gone up but then needed more credits to get to the next rank above that.
  21. The Sniper Rifle is just plain unbalanced. Put simply, there is quite literally no way that someone using a Focus Rifle can get a kill as fast as someone with a Sniper Rifle. The fact that it can then wreck vehicles with ease just makes it worse - I would like to see it nerfed, to be honest. As regards the Banshee's bomb, I say leave it as is. With just the plasma cannons it'd be woefully underpowered against vehicles, and would become too ineffective against infantry. It's not hard to shoot down a Banshee, all that's needed is for the team to work together - the DMR is great at destroying vehicles, and of course the Elites get Plasma Pistols and 'Nades.
  22. I think he means that if one player presses pause in splitscreen it only covers up their section with a pause menu, not everybody's like it does now. Not sure if I agree, anyway. Pause doesn't have any use online and it's much better if everyone gets paused together in splitscreen, as otherwise it's unfair on the player who is paused.
  23. I'm not sure I can make it, but I'll do my best!
  24. Atheist, although I used to be a fairly strong Christian. I still like a lot of what Jesus said, I just don't want to believe in a god.
