No. They should only be implemented as cosmetic features. Changing the way the HUD looks is fine but adding effects to armor is basically keeping armor abilities. It's like catching a loose tiger in a neighborhood only to replace it with a lion.

The first one was so annoying! I couldn't pass the part where you have to ride the motorcycle thing that hovers across the lava.
