  7. In this thread, I will be telling everyone how to make a machinima. The basics, the capture cards, music, camera angles, body acting, voice acting, everything! So, sit back, relax and follow along. Capture Cards: You use these things called 'Capture Cards' to record your machinima in theater mode. I'm specifically talking about Halo machinimas. The capture card I use to record is the 'Hauppauge HDPVR', it records in HD and has some really good quality. I will have some links and images below of the capture cards I suggest buying. Hauppauge HDPVR: http://www.hauppauge...data_hdpvr.html Built-in hardware H.264 high definition encoder, for high performance, high quality TV recordings Component video input (YCrCb or YPrPb) from most high definition cable TV and satellite TV receivers. Intensity features all the video connections you need to connect to video cameras, set-top boxes, game consoles, large screen TVs and projectors. Intensity is available in a choice of models featuring PCI Express, USB 3.0 or lightning fast Thunderbolt™ technology! Copyright: The Halo: Reach sounds (weapons, vehicles, death noises, soundtrack, etc) have copyright in them, which would make your video Third Party, and you do not want that. Try to find substitutes for the sound effects on certain websites like http://soundfxnow.com/, http://www.findsounds.com/, etc. This is just to save yourself from getting your machinimas taken down from your channel and Third Party notices. Software: Now moving on to the Software you want to use to edit your machinima. The program I use right now, is Sony Vegas Pro 11 and Adobe After Effects. Sony Vegas Pro 11 has tons of great effects to make your machinima amazing, as does Adobe After Effects. The way I do it, is to record your machinima scene first, then put the clips in Sony Vegas Pro to edit. It's pretty simple, but machinimas are very time consuming. Machinimas take lots and lots of time to make, unless you're making a 4-6 minute video then it would take about 5-9 days to make. Sony Vegas Pro 11: http://www.sonycreat...re.com/vegaspro The Vegas™ Pro 11 collection — Vegas Pro 11, DVD Architect™ Pro 5.2, and Dolby® Digital Professional Encoder — provides an efficient, intuitive and integrated content creation environment for video and broadcast professionals. Now featuring GPU-accelerated performance with OpenCL™-supported devices, Vegas Pro 11 powers through video processing and rendering tasks with ease. With innovative stereoscopic 3D tools, broad format support, unparalleled audio control, and GPU-ignited effects processing and rendering, the Vegas Pro 11 collection streamlines your workflow like never before. Adobe After Effects CS6: http://success.adobe...S|b|11478519562 Body acting: This next step is a really difficult part of making a machinima. It is body acting. You want to find people who will cooperate with what you say, and actually do the scene that you want done. But that's not all, if you are doing action scenes, it might take time to do them. You will have to do them over and over again, that's why machinimas are time consuming. You will need lots of patience when doing body acting with other people. But this brings me to fight scenes. When I watch a fight, I like to see the action. What I notice about most movies or films is that they tend to have a lot of cuts during the fight scenes which ruin it for me. I might just be a slow person, but it's relatively hard for me to process what's going on with tons of cuts. Another thing about fight scenes is that you have to have the right mood for them. A lot of times I notice that people don't really let it build up, or they let it build up for way to long. Maybe make that epic fight on a hill with a sunset, or have the dark atmosphere of rain and storms surrounding the area as one of the Spartans/Elites are about to fight. Also, don't make the scene seem like another cliche part of a movie. What I mean by that is you should make the viewers seem interested in what happens. Making the fight seem one extremely predictable is another no-no thing to do. Just keep doing the scene until you get it right. It may be hard, but you will get the scene done. Voice acting and Script writing: Another tricky part of making a machinima. This is voice acting. When recording your voice, you're going to have a lot of trouble (trust me). Keep recording until you get it right. If you are making your voice sound like an elite, download Audacity, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/, a free audio editor that allows you to record your voice, and has many amazing effects. After downloading Audacity, watch this video so you can learn how to sound like an elite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch0RNekTtVY If you would like to sound like a spartan, click on the next video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7d6N4608_U Now, lets get into script writing... This is probably one of the most funnest and most challenging part of the machinima making process. This is your chance to write what is going to happen in your machinima. Just use your creativity, remember to name your characters, if you can: come up with names of the locations your characters will go to, list the lines your voice actors will say, list what your characters will do. Script writing is a very important part of making a machinima, never forget to do it. Just remember to be creative and have fun, and don't rush! Camera work/Capturing your video: Yet another fun/tricky part on how to make a machinima. This is capturing your video, camera work and shaky cameras. In the beginning of a scene, you want to get a good view of the scenery. Have the camera looking at the sky/Halo ring, then going down gently with a good view of the location your character(s) are at. An example; I would fade in the words "TheButtonedHalo Productions" and fade it out, 3 seconds later I fade in "In association with 343 Industries Community Forums" fade it out, then after my characters do a small talk explaining why/and how they are on Reach, it says "The Heart of War", all while getting a couple good shots of the scenery. You always want the camera moving, you do not want a still camera, just looking at the sky and buildings. No. You want it coming forward some times, moving back slowly, etc. The only time I would suggest keeping the camera still is when one of your characters is talking. There are some really good machinimas out there that really stand out, and you can learn from them. http://www.youtube.c...B8&feature=plcp If you are recording an action scene, do not over-do the Shaky camera. It ruins if for some people and really takes the meaning of the scene away. Do not overuse it, I suggest only a couple scenes. Remember to use record lots of shots, people are going to get bored if it's just one camera that continues to follow the characters. Music I suggest using: There are a lot of great soundtracks out there for action, sad, meaningful, powerful, scenes. But you have to get music that fit just right for your scene. If you're looking for 'action music', I would suggest you go to Two Steps from Hell, Riptide Music, Future World Music, Immediate Music, Epic Score and Atmosphere Music. If you're looking for some sad music, look up Cello Music, Sparrow, Alone Wolf, and Halo: ODST Soundtrack. If you are looking for music that would fit action scenes with an up lifting ending, then listen to the Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Legends, Denny Schneidemesser sound track. Building your maps: Map making for your machinima is one of the most easiest parts for machinimas. It's difficult if you are a beginner with forge, but you will learn. Whether it is Forerunner, UNSC, Covenant or natural themed, it will be fun to build yet hard to get what you want exactly. There are lots of tutorials, tips and tricks for making maps, and you will find a lot at TheHaloForgeEpidemic on YouTube, http://www.youtube.c...loForgeEpidemic, they are very professional forgers so don't worry. You have $10,000 worth of budget on Forge World, but 3.5/4 objects that make up the budget are Forerunner themed. I suggest you make a Forerunner themed map, and add (depends if it is Covenant or UNSC) crates, weapons and vehicles inside. If it's a natural base you're trying to build, build the base against a large rock. Forge World has rocks all around it, so I suggest you make the base against rocks. Just remember to have fun, don't give up and keep going. Machinimas are very, very time consuming, as you can see. So remember to be very patient. You're going to have problems, whether it's with your software, hardware, body actors or voice actors. Keep going and do. Not. Stop!!!!!!!!

@Ms. Mystic, I put the Shaky cam on purpose to give it a more 'action feel.' I don't see how the Sunset Effect was too much, I trimmed the effect down half way. And the machinima will have a lot of humor in it, this was just a trailer, it has to have a lot of action. Just look at the Avengers, the trailer was serious, but the whole movie had tons of humor in it. THANK YOU for your criticism.

  14. It has been 1 full year on this site for me. I will now like to share some thoughts about the forum and shoutouts to some members. July 26th, 2011. The day I joined. I have to say, when I first joined and posted in the Shoutbox, I was a little lost. The very first person that I met was Vitamin PWN, who showed me around and I got to meet a lot of people. I felt that the forums were a place to post your own opinions and chat with others. The site continued to grow and I felt awesome to be a part of this extraordinary community forum. This site deals with a lot of things. Trolls, double/triple posts, fights in the shoutbox, goodbyes. But the amazing members and moderators always find a solution. So after getting to know people and getting used to the members, I decided to stay. 343 Industries Community Forum is an amazing place to be in. Throughout the year, the Moderators and Admin added lots of new and exciting things to the forum. The cool-looking Space skin, Awards, File-Share, the 'Like' system, Achievements, the 'Member of the Month' system, our own YouTube channel, Facebook and Twitter! The forum keeps on growing and growing, and I am really happy for that. I didn't like the fact that a lot of people were leaving. (Absolute Dog, Fire and Spectral Jester). But once Absolute Dog and Fire came back I was elated. Spectral Jester pops in from time to time but it just isn't the same... I will now like to shoutout a couple members who have always been there and always stood out in the forums. Absolute Dog: The big dog of the forums. He isn't just a moderator, he is a true friend. He always likes to swing his banhammer around whenever he spots a troll. We were all depressed when you left, but I hope you continue to be the hell of a moderator you are AD! Now, go fetch that bone! Twam: You are the king of the forum. I know you do so much to keep this forum clean and better everyday, so keep doing that! You are the only Administrator of the community, so I hope you continue to 'administrate.' If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be making this thread. Thank you for making this amazing, one of a kind forum! Choot 'Em: Always calm and always there. Choot em is the more-than-relaxed-member of the forums and has a wide sense of humor. He always knows how to make me laugh and everyone around him. Choot, I know you had a baby that came just a few months ago, so raise her with calmness and happiness so she can turn out just like you!! Ms. Mystic: She is a true friend, always on the move and always reporting trolls. Mystic, you are a real friend, a true forum defender and you really know your Halo and what it's about. Beware: She can kick your arse at a 1v1! Spectral Jester: SJ, you are one of the most unique members I know. You're not a moderator anymore, but you're still a huge part of the forums. I still have not played with you on Xbox yet, but I would love to. I hope you return as a full moderator soon and/or continue to post regularly. You have helped me throughout the year with lots of things, and I am grateful for that. Jester, you are a true friend, don't ever forget that. You have a special place in my heart. Vitamin PWN: The very first person I met on the forums. You have helped me through a lot the first couple of days that I joined. You're a funny guy VP, and it was always a blast playing with you in Halo 3: Big Team Battle. Keep on being awesome and remember to keep pwning! Zaguroth: A great friend. Zag, you have helped me out a lot over the past year. Machinimas, map testing, voice acting, and always being there for me. You are a true friend to me Zag, I hope you will always stick around. I know you go through a lot, but I just want to thank you for helping me. x5had0wxMa9numx: "You were my first friend on this site." Oh was I? Well you are another true friend. I know that you have one crazy mind, that is mostly covered in Spiderman pictures, and that you are a true Halo player. I've looked at your recently played games, you are a true, legendary Halo player my friend. Thank you for helping me with Machinimas, maps and always having a blast when you are around! Everyone: Thank you for making this forum what it is. You all make this site go round, whether you are a troll, spammer or regular member, you make this site keep going strong!! College... those of you that haven't seen my 'About Me' page, well, I am leaving soon to college. I am currently working, trying to save up enough money for me to buy a laptop so I can stay connected to all of you. I hope you all can respect that. Over these past 12 months, this site has brought me many things. Kindness from members, respect, courage and lots of, love..? This forum is a unique site, full of amazing and thoughtful members. But you know, we aren't just a community forum. Ha. We are much, much more than that, we are a family! Thank you all for letting me share 365 days worth of awesomeness with you!
  15. Congrats on 500 posts/Dedicated, Ryu! Welcome to the club! Now got get some, ...sleep.

  17. 343 Industries Community Forum - "Map of Fame", I bet you're wondering, "What is it?" Well, let me explain... I, Donut, am currently making the best Aesthetic map that I will ever make in Halo Reach. This map will feature all of the amazing, thoughtful members that this Forum currently holds, that's why it is named, the 'Map of Fame'. I will be working on this for the rest of July and all of August. There is no due date for this map because you can not put a date on a masterpiece (unless it's Halo 4). I promise you, the 343 Industries Community Forum, you will be very impressed and pleased with this map. This has been in the works for a couple of weeks already, I just secretly kept it from all of you because I needed this to be a surprise. This map will feature the all of the people in the staff, and many, many of the talented and special members that make up this extraordinary site. We, together, all of us, make up this community, and make this a special place, so let's keep it that way. The moderators, Twam, and all of the members of the forum are all amazing, unique and astounding in your own, special way. Let's keep this forum going strong, and keep it going. We aren't just a community, we are a family. This map will feature: Amazing aesthetics contributing 343 Industries Community Forum Members and Staff that have stood out on the Forum Lots of aesthetics that represent the amazing series: Halo Things that the site has added that made the site better "Wake me, when you need me." Written out in Spawn Points (you'll see) Mind blowing details that will get you on your feet There was one more thing I wanted to discuss. I've been wanting to do this so badly but every time I bring it up in the Shoutbox I get ignored. It's something that I wanted to do ever since the site's YouTube was announced. The thing I wanted to do was make a map (such as this) and make a montage video of the things inside it. Then at the end of the video we have 16 of the most awesome members of the forum make a sort of picture formation in front of the sign "343 Industries Community Forum" and look at the camera in front of them (me) and yell "343 INDUSTRIES COMMUNITY FORUM!!!!!!" *then the video ends with credits* I thought it was a pretty good/corny idea but eh, I just wanted to make a video that represents the forum. If you like the idea, then like this thread and please post below. I will continue to make the map then make a post here when it is finished. I really hope you love the map that I am making. Well, that's my thread of the day, hope you all are looking forward to this map as much as I am!
  18. Nope, they said it was "About 3/4 of the way through the campaign."
  19. I wasn't saying your opinion was stupid, just that you complain about the stupidest things. It's stickies, I mean really. There are tons of other things to complain about in Reach, but this? Come on. It's really easy to stick people, you just need practice. This is something REALLY stupid to complain about. 1) Aim better. 2) Have better accuracy. 3) Have a Moderator lock this pointless thread. 4) It is probably your/someone else's connection making the stickies go through the body. 5) Throw the stickies to the ground. 6) Throw in the middle/lower area of the player. 7) Use Frag Grenades.
  20. Yes. It's called a sticky grenade because you need to stick them. Try aiming for their body with more accuracy. When I get my hands on a sticky, 90% of the time I usually end up sticking someone. This is because I have accuracy. Just aim better or just throw your sticky grenade in front of your enemy so it kills them. If you're really going to complain about something this stupid, then why not just use Frag grenades? Hmm?
