The new forge that is available in Halo 2 Anniversary is quite remarkable. A new feature, known as Movement Snap, will revolutionize the way we forge. Movement Snap combines the ethics of Coordinate Forge and Magnet Forge. As a result, the forging process is a lot quicker. Because of this, and the 650 piece budget, forge maps are becoming a lot larger than before. It was only a matter of time before Hybrid maps boomed... Hybrid maps: "What are they?", you might ask. Hybrid maps are, at the core, large competitive arena maps. They start out as small arenas, and then you build on them with Big Team Battle essentials. These Hybrid maps may feature vehicles, balanced weapons and spawns, and diverse map control. Because of their size, a two-players-against-one scenario is unlikely, unless you enjoy standing out in the open. I would consider Halo 4's "Complex" to be the first great Hybrid map. Hybrid maps are not for everyone, and it shows with the reception of Halo 4's multiplayer modes. So what is the difference between a Big Team map and a Hybrid map? Well, a very difficult question to ask with an easy answer. Let's take a look at Halo 2's "Coagulation". For the most part, the open area is the center of the action, and is equidistant from the bounds. Notice how the open area can surround the base, and yet the base is very close-quarters on the inside. Hybrid maps, on the other hand, use open areas passively. The center of the action is in the close quarters arena setting. Another look at "Complex", shall we fancy? Players gravitate AWAY from the open grass and to the structure, while in "Coagulation", Players gravitate TOWARDS the open mounds. Right now, I am working a new Hybrid. I started by trying to combine the symmetrical halves of two symmetrical arena maps of mine: "Breachport" from Halo: Reach, and "New Pacific" from Halo 4. I ended up adding a new floor on the bottom that not only connects the two halves, but creates an outer ring that goes around the map. It was on this floor that I decided that I should add a couple vehicles, and at that very moment, it became a Hybrid map. I don't believe I'm only one expanding on my old maps: There are many cartographers who stuck around to witness and become inspired by Halo 4's method. With Halo 2 Anniversary's lack of sprint, and the subjective of an Assault Rifle as a power weapon, I think this style of map design will warrant many players less "Headcase" medals. It is a good time to be a cartographer.

Chronos Chronos is a medium sized symmetrical ring shaped map for 4V4 matches. The idea of this map was to create a somewhat circular map with different "rings" circling an enclosed atrium in the center. The result was a Forerunner themed structure slowly being taken back by nature with various height differences and crossing sightlines through the middle atrium. Slayer and Hill played as well as I had hoped. However, CTF and Swat were surprise hits on this map, offering a lot more depth than I had anticipated with those gametypes. The straight shot through the deadly center made Flag surprisingly fun, forcing players to skirt around the edges with the flag. And the varied sightlines through the center and segmentation of the map makes for some great Swat matches. Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Hey guys, this is my first competitive map ever on Halo 4. I used to make mini game maps, but I decided to step out of the boundary and push forward my talents. Here I present you, Outposts. Gamertag: HAv0c99 Map: Outposts Gametype(s): Slayer, KoTH, CTF The map is basically a narrow map which has two bases on opposite ends, with a mini base located in the middle. It contains many weapons (but are balanced), and 4 mongoose vehicles. The map's prime gametype is CTF, but it also supports KoTH and Slayer. It's new and improved. Rampart By Squally DaBeanz Rampart is a medium sized asymmetrical map set outside of the cave on Ravine. Despite its feel of "seperate" structures, the entire map is actually one big building with various rooms, walkways, and divider walls. There are also small clusters of rocks around the edges of each "courtyard" to provide infantry quick cover from the two ghosts on the map. The map itself was designed around the idea of a balanced asymmetrical map that would work well with CTF. While very different in design, each base has equal defensive measure and ways to flank and get in. DEFENDER MAP PACK The Defender Map Pack is my first map pack release, and features three small Lockout/Guardian style maps: Stigma, Atlas, and Warden, each playing differently for different gametypes. Stigma was more of a general purpose competetive map, so I decided to make the other two a bit more specific in purposes. Atlas is catered toward 2V2s and small FFA gametypes, while Warden focuses more on tight teamwork with objective gametypes, especially CTF. That being said, Stigma is played best with slayer and KotH.

What's up internet!? My Gamertag is [New Sockz] I'm 17 years old and I'm a skilled, competitive, and friendly gamer with a passion for all things Halo, and I've been around since 2001. Ever since I reached Inheritor in Reach, I found a lot of time to forge. Many people tell me that my maps are really good (which they are!) and that they should be more popular. Someone I know told me that my map creations are MM worthy and that I should "broadcast" them here. So here I am! I will post my best work on THFE Forums and see where it goes from there.
