David Ellis Holds a Halo 4 Q&A with NeoGAF

Recommended Posts

Late last night, Halo 4 designer David Ellis held an impromptu Q&A with NeoGAF form members. Here's what he had to say:

Ace! Nothing better than getting a kill by beaning someone with a 'nade.

Sounds like customisable HUD might be in, this is inline with elements seeming to have moved from build-to-build. Obviously it could also be explained by the fact that things like this change throughout development.

Oooooh! Now this is interesting, suggests there's more to the differing colours of Prometheans than just rank. We've seen orange and blue/purple so far, I'd not read too much into it assuming they would just be different ranks of the same faction. David's comment would suggest there's more to it than that.

It could be orange for The Didact and blue for Mater Builder perhaps? Maybe blue could be Cortana controlled if she gets herself into the Requiem systems. ForwardUntoDawn.com have gone into great detail about potential Halo 4 antagonists - essentially it could be The Didact, The Master Builder, Cortana or 343 Guilty Spark.

It's really cool that 343i staff are able to do this, so many developers are locked down and shrouded in secrecy, so you never get this kind of interaction with fans. This is the sort of thing you might expect from a tiny indie developer not one of the largest in the industry. Well played, 343.

You gotta love 343 employees really. It's not like these are testers or some people that work on the game but arent big names in the development. We the fans are always getting interactions with Frank O'Connor, Josh Holmes, Kiki Wolfkill, and now David Ellis. They really are fantastic and are funny too: "but if I spilled all the beans about that right now, Frank might deliver a vicious Scottish roundhouse to me when I get back to the office." And this Q&A says a lot. I would love HUD customization options I think that'd be a great and meaningful feature to add more than aesthetics, it could even play a role in tactic. But as Tyrael said, I think it's extremely interesting that he said there's a reason for the different colors in the Prometheans. I thought I knew a fair deal about Halo 4 but this has me feeling clueless. Very cool and great find Tyrael
