UPDATE 2:58 PM: It's official. According to VG247, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified will be released on December 31, 2012, as well as as the rest of the details in the story below.

The only things we learned at E3 2012 about Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified were the title and the plan for a 2012 "holiday" release, but a pair of newly discovered product listings from Amazon andWalmart (via IGN) fill in a few more blanks. Both list Activision's PS Vita shooter as a $49.99 item with a (presumably placeholder) release date of December 31, 2012, and both offer matching descriptions that include a few details about the game.

The description makes it sound like Declassified tells some kind of prequel story to this fall's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, probably serving as a narrative bridge between 2011's Black Ops and the upcoming sequel. The game is described as having "an all-new campaign of Special Ops missions" that has been "optimized for gamers on-the-go" as well as a multiplayer mode "tailored for the PS Vita."
