Archangel Tyrael
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is back with Dawnguard, and believe it or not, it’s bigger than ever. The first official add-on was released to the Xbox 360 today, adding in a whole ton of new stuff from new quests, abilities, and lots of new enemies to kill. So to help you wrap your head around even more Skyrimgoodness, we started exploring it early. Here's just a taste of what you’ll be seeing in Dawnguard. What does the DLC add? A full new questline adding in a story about the war between the Dawnguard, a group of vampire hunters, and Lord Harkon, a vampire lord bent on blotting out the sun with an Elder Scroll. Players can pick which side of the conflict they wish to join, and then partake in a new faction questline similar to the existing ones in the original game. Of particular note is the addition of crossbows to the Elder Scrolls universe. I’m a Werewolf. Why do I care about a Vampire war? While Skyrim isn’t exactly the Underworld movies, Werewolf characters have a reason to be excited for the add-on as well. Once you transform and bring up the menu, you see a new constellation in the sky, with eight perks just for being a werewolf, including one that has four ranks. Instead of using your level up skill points, you increase your werewolf power by feeding on corpses. What is the difference between Vampires and Vampire Lords? In Skyrim, all NPCs will be hostile to Full Vampires. With the addition of the Dawnguard DLC, only transformed Vampire Lords will be attacked, similar to Werewolves. Vampire Lords can transform in and out of their beast form at will, unlike Werewolves who are limited to one transformation a day (unless they have the Ring of Hircine). Vampire Lords have access to a whole new set of skills and abilities, like the ability to hover using their wings, as well as a quick dodge move that has them turning into a cloud of bats. Hands-On Preview: E3 2012 Demo - The Batborn Rises Will there be any new locations? Dawnguard adds a few new big locations, including Fort Dawnguard, the home of the Vampire Hunters located to the south east of Riften; Castle Volkihar, the home of the Vampire Lord bent on taking out the sun; and the Soul Cairn, a plane of Oblivion that is filled with Undead. Will there be any new Dragons in the expansion? There will be at least one more new dragon, Durnehviir, an undead dragon you meet in the Soul Cairn. You can also expect a few new shouts too, like one that tears souls from enemies, one that drains health and magicka, and one that will summon Durnehviir. What will I be fighting that’s new to Skyrim? New undead creatures reside in the Soul Cairn, Vampire Lords will summon Gargoyles to fight alongside them, and the Dawnguard will use Armored Trolls to fight the Undead.
