Bethesda
Well, this is my first post ever on this forum (I used to be on Bungie.net all the time back in the good ol' Halo 2 & 3 days). I made an account here specifically because I have concerns about the playability of the Default, Fishstick (CoD), and Green Thumb control schemes in particular. Before I begin my rant, I would like to ask that anyone who has relevant information or knows that this feature is already in, please let me know by posting in this thread or PM me so that I can stop bothering people about this. I may simply be misinformed. If they already have it on toggle, just let me know, there's no need to flame/spam hate messages/call me a noob, etc. On the surface it seems like a minor detail. Also please don't post any garbage in here saying that I want Halo to be like CoD just because I want some similarities in the control setups, because I don't even like CoD. Trust me, that's the absolute last thing that I want to happen. What I am asking for is in many of the world's top-rated FPS games, not just CoD but also the Battlefield and Borderlands series, to name a few. Here's my two cents: Any control setup that has sprint on a face button is automatically inferior and practically unusable in my opinion, this ain't Gears of War. I am a very aggressive player and I am always on the move, preferably sprinting as much as possible. Having to constantly shift my thumb back and forth from the right stick to a face button is unacceptable for a Halo game, which in competitive play requires lightning-fast reflexes and extreme dexterity to succeed. Therefore, three of the seven control schemes that have been revealed thus far are undesirable to me. Southpaw is also eliminated as being my chosen setup for obvious reasons. I have now narrowed my selections down to three possible choices: Default, Fishstick, or Green Thumb. One of the strong points of the entire Halo series (even including Halo Wars!) is the smooth, fluid, and intuitive feel of the controls. But there's a possibility that Halo 4 will bring an end to this illustrious legacy of great controls. This is the point I've been trying to get across with this post: :wallbash: IF WE ARE FORCED TO CLICK & HOLD DOWN THE LEFT STICK OR USE A FACE BUTTON TO SPRINT, THEN YOU SCREWED UP BIG TIME, 343. END OF STORY. Keep in mind that the Default control scheme has sprint on the left stick. If I were asking for a feature to be added that would only benefit some strange off-the-wall control scheme then I could understand why you wouldn't put it in. But this is the DEFAULT we're talking about here. If anybody would like to simply get a general idea of how bad that would suck, try loading up Skyrim and re-map sprint to the left stick. It's one of the most uncomfortable control settings to use that I've ever tried, not to mention the extreme wear-and-tear it would inflict on your controller after prolonged use. Please fix it, make it so that the Default, Fishstick, and Green Thumb control schemes are either A) set up as toggle automatically, or add an option for sprint to be set up for toggle or hold, just like crouch is. If you gave us that ability for zoom as well, I'd be thrilled, but zoom doesn't need the option nearly as badly as sprint does. Now, if this is already the case, and I am just uninformed, I guess I just stuck my foot in my mouth (or in my keyboard?) 343 Industries, you have the time, but will you put in the effort? I will be heard! P.S. 343, you already know this, but practically everybody wants fully customizable controls. Bethesda can do it, so can you. Just use the power of Grayskull. ============================== HALO 4 CONTROL SETUPS (Originally posted on MLG Forums and is subject to change) ============================== DEFAULT LT – Throw grenade RT – Fire Weapon LB – Use Armor Ability RB - Melee LS – Movement/Sprint RS – Look/Zoom A – Jump B – Crouch X – Action/Reload Y – Switch Weapons Dpad – Select Grenade (left or right) ================================ FISHSTICK LT – Zoom RT – Fire Weapon LB – Use Armor Ability RB – Throw Grenade LS – Movement/Sprint RS – Look/Melee A – Jump B – Crouch X – Action/Reload Y – Switch Weapons Dpad – Select Grenade (left or right) ================================ GREEN THUMB LT – Throw Grenade RT – Fire Weapon LB – Use Armor Ability RB – Zoom LS – Movement/Sprint RS – Look/Melee A – Jump B – Crouch X – Action/Reload Y – Switch Weapons Dpad – Select Grenade (left or right) ================================ RECON LT – Throw Grenade RT – Fire Weapon LB – Use Armor Ability RB – Action/Reload LS – Movement/Crouch RS – Look/Zoom A – Jump B – Melee X – Sprint Y – Switch Weapons Dpad – Select Grenade (left or right) ================================ BUMPER JUMPER LT – Use Armor Ability RT – Fire Weapon LB – Jump RB – Melee LS – Movement/Crouch RS – Look/Zoom A – Sprint B – Action/Reload X – Throw Grenade Y – Switch Weapons Dpad – Select Grenade (left or right) ================================ BOXER LT – Melee RT – Fire Weapon LB – Use Armor Ability RB – Throw Grenade LS – Movement/Crouch RS – Look/Zoom A – Jump B – Sprint X – Action/Reload Y – Switch Weapons Dpad – Select Grenade (left or right)
fzdw11
I'm actually in agreeance with you here, if sprint isn't a toggle, then it's useless. I don't know if we've had confirmation about this or not, but I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that it is a toggle. I also want fully customizable controls. On a side note, welcome to the forums! Judging by your post, you're not aware of this (and don't worry, most new members aren't), but we're not the official 343 forums, only a community fan site. If you were wanting to ask 343 directly, you'd be better off joining the Waypoint forums (halo.xbox.com), that is the official source for all things Halo and 343. Over there, you have a better chance of an actual 343 employee seeing this concern. But please, feel free to stick around! We love talking to new members, especially ones that have decent ideas and can put together well thought out topics.
Dawn Wolf
You are aware that Sprint is toggle in Halo: Reach, right? You don't need to hold it down. Why would they change it?
Tallgeese
I believe they will have the option to change the functionality of Sprint, similar to how the functionality of crouch will be the same as in Reach and can be changed. But idk for sure
Silent Orbis
You know, no disrespect to halo, but I'm actually fine with the controls, I'm gonna use fishstick because before playing halo, I played CoD. So anyway, no body flame me, because I know how much the modern civillization is rude now-a-days:(. Anyway, thanks for the information man! Tallgeese
@hlamr: I would have to agree with you, I too have played CoD, just as most who have played Halo also have but dont want to admit. The more similar controls to CoD will probably work for me as well.
RoosterTeethFan
i always just stick with recon but with sprint added idk.
Ac7 oN ImPuLs3
I really hope they dont screw around with my bumper jumper!
SpartanHero113
in my opinion, the best thing to do is make it where if you are running and you click the LS you sprint (like COD) and if you are sitting still and/or walking, you can click LS to crouch. If i remember correctly in Halo: CE you could crouch but when you started running you would stand up.
