Halo 4 Forge mode will 'accommodate any design you can think of'

Recommended Posts

343 Industries is confident that the new map editing Forge mode in Halo 4 will be powerful enough to let you create just about anything your brain can muster.

"There will be some aesthetic variety we'll talk about later - as well as the obvious inclusion of aesthetics and Forgeable objects from specific maps (Forerunner vs. UNSC objects, depending on the content of the environment)," said the developer on Halo Waypoint.

"The environments will be large enough to accommodate just about any design you can think of, from a Lockout remake to a sprawling racetrack," they went on. "There will be rolling hills, flat, sterile spaces, big, flat indoor areas and everything in between. The difference is that we'll use more than one environment - an aesthetic - rather than a giant contiguous space like Forge World.

"There will also be HUGE FLAT JUMBO Coliseum 'walls' that you can instantly place as enormous floor tiles (or walls). All the spaces are being designed with flexibility and performance in mind. The inclusion of a new lighting engine and some unique palettes will make things look more varied and connected. Some simple examples - you can make Lockout and The Pit with relative ease and plenty of room. If you want to do something giant and meandering, you'll have to incorporate some of the environments existing features (hills, cliffs etc)."

Elsewhere in the Q&A, 343 said it will be keeping Forge-made and developer-made maps separate - at first. "We won't be putting Forge creations in the "main" matchmaking areas initially, at least," it said.

"Certainly Forged variants may go in (rules, the odd object placement) eventually, but we're still discussing how to promote and enable Forge creations in a way that maintains a separation of that kind of content from the main mix."

Microsoft confirmed earlier this week that the Halo 4 themed Xbox 360 bundle will carry a price tag of £269 in the UK.

If I can get the 8GB minimum storage space for the multiplayer aspect of the game, then pretty much all I'll be doing is Forge, Forge, Forge!

But that brings up a question: Will Forge mode be part of the game without having to get that 8GB storage space? 343 be praised!

i just wonder when we will be able to change weather, time of day(night, day) and type of terrain(snow, desert, etc).

i also wonder if it would be possible to change the styles of the structures. Instead of everything being foreruner looking, maybe building pieces could be deigned to look like human or covenant structures

Oh, definitely! It kind of makes you wonder why Bungie didn't put in much Covenant structure pieces. I mean the only Covenant-related objects I saw were plasma storage things and those little bridge pieces on Zealot and Penance. I loved the improved look of the inside of the Covenant battlecruiser Truth and Reconciliation in Halo Anniversary, and I hope 343i puts some Covenant building pieces and objects in Forge in Halo 4.

Well according to their "Dynamic Lighting" I would hope to create a dark play area. Then turn it into a infection play area or a slayer map.

it will be pretty easy now considering the new lighting. Just build a barrier in front of the sun and the whole map gets eclipsed
