New York, NY – October 2, 2012 – Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC – the largest publisher of science fiction in the world – and 343 Industries are excited to announce the on-sale availability of a new hardcover, audiobook, and trade paperback edition of HALO: THE THURSDAY WAR by #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Traviss. Traviss, who has penned bestselling novels in the Star Wars universe, as well as bestselling novels for the Gears of War franchise, continues to explore the events following Halo 3 in this second novel of her Kilo-Five trilogy, releasing on October 2, 2012.

Halo novels published by Tor have sold over a million combined copies to date, and this April, Tor will also publish Halo: Silentium, the third and final novel in the Forerunner Saga by science fiction icon Greg Bear.

In HALO: THE THURSDAY WAR, readers discover humanity’s new war: silent, high-stakes, and unseen. This is a life-or-death mission for ONI’s black-ops team, Kilo-Five, which is tasked with preventing the ruthless Elites, once the military leaders of the Covenant, from regrouping and threatening humankind again. What began as a routine dirty-tricks operation – keeping the Elites busy with their own insurrection – turns into a desperate bid to extract one member of Kilo-Five from the seething heart of an alien civil war. But troubles never come singly for Kilo-Five. Colonial terrorism is once again surfacing on one of the worlds that survived the war against the Covenant, and the man behind it is much more than just a name to Spartan-010. Meanwhile, the treasure trove of Forerunner technology recovered from the shield world of Onyx is being put to work while a kidnapped Elite plots vengeance on the humans he fears will bring his people to the brink of destruction.

Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director at 343 Industries says, “Helping set the stage for events that transpire in the upcoming blockbuster video game, Halo 4, The Thursday War is a rich and compelling look at the politics, conflict and mysteries of a Galaxy at war with itself and its future.”

# 1 New York Times bestselling novelist, screenwriter and comics author Karen Traviss has received critical acclaim for her award-nominated Wess’har series, as well as regularly hitting the bestseller lists with her Star Wars, Gears of War and Halo work. She was also lead writer on the Gears of War 3 game. A former defense correspondent and TV and newspaper journalist, Traviss lives in Wiltshire, England.

The Halo franchise is an award-winning collection of properties that have grown into a global entertainment phenomenon. Beginning with the original Halo: Combat Evolved for Xbox in 2001, the rich fiction of the franchise has since inspired a series of blockbuster Xbox and Xbox 360 video games, New York Times best-selling novels, comic books, action figures, apparel and more. To date, the Halo franchise has sold more than 43 million copies with sales eclipsing $3 billion over its lifetime. Halo 4 marks the beginning of a new saga in the Halo universe, as Master Chief returns to confront his own destiny and an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe. Developed by 343 Industries exclusively for Xbox 360, Halo 4 will release on November 6, 2012.

So I did a bit of researching and from what I found, the prequel to The Thursday War, Glasslands, has gotten quite the poor reviews from fans.

So have anyone here on the forum read Glasslands, would you recommend it?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. Not only does Traviss get the Halo lore wrong on several occasions, see turns it all into a kind of a soap opera, with military behaving like a big huge family, Halsey being some sort of a bad character, and revealing classified secrets to basically anyone. And the story is kinda bland.

So yeah I wouldn't recommend it, though this is just my opinion.

i dont seem to recall big flaws with the book compare to the halo lore, and just because a books story gets very deep and emotional doesnt make it a bad book. Halo books arent Just made of "Shoot dis, Shoot that" theres plot and judging that most of humanity was just wiped out, yea it will get a little "Soap Opera"

The book Is great and i would recommend getting it if you really want to dive into the deeper part of the fiction, the meaning behind why they do this or that. Glasslands I'd Get and depending on how much you want to know about halo 4 get Thursday war pronto
