Idle Booting?

This is a thought I had just now, but has irritated me for a while.

I'm sure we all get into those games where people will Idle just to get credits. They can literally just stand around and let the other players do the work while they get rewarded for it. It's a cheap way to harvest credits and highly frowned upon by the active players.

So what I suggest is... Idle Booting.

Basically how it would work is... if someone is standing around doing nothing for, say, 2 - 3 minutes, they get automatically ejected from the game.

I was originally going to suggest having a pop-up screen similar to the betrayal booting option... but if a player is facing off with an elite and that screen shows up, it could be catastrophic.

But it would be nice if there was a system that would stop players from being able to stand around the entire game while you do all the work.

but then they will just do what they did in halo 3 and just jump up and down, that way they will still get credits, but they will be moving.

i like the system u explained, but there are many flaws to it, and people will just find another way to get around it.

Then use the score tables against them. If they are moving and jumping around, good for them... but let's say that the entire team, sans the idle guy, gets up to 200 score within the first few minutes. If the Idle Guy is about to get booted and starts jumping around to avoid it, the system would realize he has 0 score (or 50 or something not on-par with the rest of the team) and eject him. OR the players would get the option to eject him, so that if it's a bunch of people that know he's dealing with something in RL at the same time (computer virus scans or something), they can choose whether or not to keep him around.

So in this case, the system would read that he's been idle for a certain amount of time, read the total score the rest of the team has, then check the idle guy's score and put two and two together.

Plus... we all know that on your gamer profile on bungie.net, it shows places where you've killed things. If the server can create maps for stuff like that, then it can read that 3 of the players (on co-op campaign for example) are off killing Brutes in one area while the idle guy is standing at a great distance and shooting maybe once or twice, then standing still.

...

Ultimately, I'm just trying to suggest a way to better manage idle people. We know that idle credit farming can get you into big trouble (IE: Being naughty), but it would be nice if the players could start helping with catching them as opposed to waiting for 343 (or Bungie) to check their stats. Maybe make another option in the game where instead of just checking Service Record, Gamer Profile, etc., you have the option to report them for idling throughout the game. Then if 343 gets enough reports, they can check the records and be like "Yep, he's in trouble now".

But what you are suggesting would actually save them from all the deaths they would get. I don't mind idle players in matchmaking, they draw the enemies fire and attention, i use them to my advantage. How would it help the other players on their team if they got booted after 3 minutes?

dont they already do this? except it takes like 5 mins

If you sit idle for an entire game it kicks you out to the main menu and does not start you into another game. However, I played a game of griffball where me and one other guy on my team were the only ones playing. We just spawn killed for the 3 min round then grabbed the bomb and scored. I got a ton of medals and credits for that game.

What if it's somebodies first time and they suck. they wouldn't score but would still be moving and shooting. they would then get booted. i think if a player gets reported for inactivity multiple times, 343i can check out his profile and drop the ban-hammer on him.

only as long as other people can join matchmaking games like they do custom games

I don't really like this idea. Like I want to join a game from the start, know whats going on in the map. Whats the point in joining games just for 2-3 mins? Or joining a game that has gone bad because of your teammates before you got there and you're getting spawnkilled?

If this were to be put in Halo as well, it would bring quitting games to a new level.
