Is the Plasma Pistol useful as a weapon now?

The Plasma Pistol has always been useful, in my opinion.

In Halo Reach MLG, you could take down someone's shields just by rapidly

pressing the trigger, then pull out the DMR for an easy headshot.

It's a great small-arms weapon for taking someone's shields down quickly.

A lot more useful than the Magnum, you just need accuracy.

But it's all based on opinion, the Plasma Pistol does seem more useful in Halo 4,

but the Boltshot seems much more useful because it acts more like a Shotgun.

At SDCC the PP was pretty useful, tracked better than in Halo Reach and you could kill with it....slower than the pistol and boltshot, but still kill with it. The needler is amazing now...it tracks way better and does far more damage than the Reach needler.

The thing is, I just miss using it as a weapon in itself. Like how in Halo CE you could just shoot repeatedly and kill someone really quickly (even without shields). And I know the covie weapons and UNSC weapons have specific roles to play, but I always missed being able to just pick up a plasma pistol and shooting it like a gun instead of needing to use it for just shields or taking a vehicle down. Like run into a room and just keep shooting and manage to get multiple kills without having to switch the BR lol

Obviously I don't mean for it to be OP, just hoped it'd be somewhat of an option. But then again, it might make duel wielding more possible in Halo 5 if they keep the plasma pistol in weaker condition 8D

Please... please let there be duel wielding in Halo 5... I mean, it'd go perfect with a Halo 2 anniversary. Having duel wielding work in both the halo 2 anniversary maps and in halo 5 multiplayer. (like how no duels in reach worked with no duels in halo ce)

The plasma pistol in it self isnt as effective (if you cant use it properly) as a, for example AR. But why people is saying its OP is because of the PP and Headshot weapon combo, which might sometimes be frustrating. But that doesn't prevent it for being good as a killing weapon, not only for taking down shields but to actually kill your enemy. In halo reach i think it was good, if you really tapped the trigger and hit with every shot you could win a player with a DMR, (which would take more skill to use than any other weapon), as for in halo 3 it was ridiculously unpowered, 36 shots to kill is a bit too excessively, and almost impossible to kill with in MM.

So in my opinion, 343 wouldnt have to nerf the PPs effect on the killtime just maybe, to satisfy people, make it to take a longer time to switch weapons from PP to a other weapon just about 0.2 seconds delay, from what it is now, would be enough.

Honestly, it's very difficult to get an Overcharge Headshot combo on an experienced player unless you are either lucky, or are experienced using that combo. And I've got more than a few kills with the good ol' Plasma Pistol in my day. It's a decent little weapon, if you use it right.

In CE, much of the gameplay was spray and pray, and magnum sniping, which is the main reason the plasma pistol was more effective than it is now. Now, however, there are precision weapons that do far more damage in comparison which makes the plasma pistol look like a joke. You'd have to ask someone like Twinreaper, but I honestly don't think the PP damage tables have altered that much (in comparison to the AR, plasma rifle, and needler) over the years.

The plasma pistol is mainly a shield eater, and always has been. If you overcharge and then spray and pray, you're bound to get a kill or two.

i do agree, on this.

but i have seen many topics about this plasma pistol combo, which people call noobish. and so i thought you could somehow compromise their opinion with those who think its not "OP". And i do agree its not easy to get a kill with the combo.

Btw im a PP fan myself, i have a few hundered kills with it :) and i would be happy if it would stay as effective as in reach in halo 4. Though sometimes you have to look outside of your own thoughts and see what other people are thinking :)

I believe it's a little bit less than Reach's PP. Best used at short distance, starts to become useless at medium distance.

It is...it tracks far less than it did in Reach, not only that but it drops slowly the farther it goes. It does pretty well going up against vehicles though which brings it back to its primary use as a vehicle disabler.

That's good to hear. I had heard from someone that the PP tracked better than in Halo 3 and Reach, so I was worried for a sec. I don't want strong Needlers AND strong Plasma Pistols XD.

Its strong against vehicles vs the Reach PP...but not as strong as the Reach or Halo 3 PP vs infantry.
