We need a 1-50 ranking system to be satisfied with Halo 4

I will be SO let down if they don't have a skill ranking system that goes up and down with wins and losses, respectively. The 1-50 system is what kept me playing halo 3 for years, still play today. If you don't have a goal that takes skill, effort and consistency to achieve, you just have a ranking system like Halo Reach.

Playing Halo Reach, no matter what rank I achieved, I NEVER felt accomplished because thousands of people have already reached that rank, playing campaign or firefight. (not trying to take anything away campaign or firefight) but the ranks are achieved solely based on time played, NOTHING ELSE.

Reaching 50 on Halo 3 (as MANY gamers already know and would agree with wholeheartedly) gave you such a HUGE sense of accomplishment and reaching that 50, as stated earlier, requires skill, effort and consistency. We need this ranking system..

As someone who sucked at the 1 - 50 ranking system, I liked the exp system from Reach, and Halo 4's system looks great as well.

But, I will say that I did enjoy the 1 - 50 system a lot. I did not do that good with Team playlists, but I managed to get to 43 in Lone Wolves! Which I was chuffed about, because I had not even begun to properly use the Battle Rifle or Bumper Jumper at that point.

I think the biggest thing that needs to be sorted out is how to reach the top level (Example being General). I'd like to see a system where you can reach it without needing a level 50 (This would be great for those who, like me, are not that good at the Ranked Team playlists).

But that doesn't mean the more competitive players would have to suffer. They could reach General without reaching 50, and perhaps when they reach 50, they unlocked something that made players like me attempt to get 50 as well. Say in-game special Armour. Or perhaps instead of General, they get their own Title which is unlocked at 50, or some other bonus.

I'll probably get flamed for suggesting a system which caters to both Competitive and Casual gamers, but something like this works for both groups.

What you said is good and it would work. There just needs to be SOMETHING that shows that players have reached the peak. Even if it is just simply having the number on your service record but there needs to be something. It needs to have a matchmaking where (if you are level 43) you are searching for a match between skill levels 38 - 48 like what it would do on Halo 3, it kept the matches competitive. How Halo Reach is set up you can get matched up against (what would be) level 15 players when you're level 50. It's not fun for either side.

In reach you could go make something to eat and earn xp by just sitting in the game.

Halo 3 1-50 all the way

Exactly why it it's called a "progression system" and quite frankly, It's not going to cut it in Halo 4.

The ranking system worked in Halo 2 everyone loved it, the ranking system worked in Halo 3 everyone loved it. We NEEEEED it!

CORRECTION: Halo 4 NEEDS it!

I hated the Arena in Reach, for multiple reasons. But my main point is, I think any ranking system they incorporate should take into account wins and losses, and that's basically it. I hate rank systems that take kills into account. Especially when done like Reach.

Thing is, Bungie claimed the system would weigh deaths over kills. But it didn't.

I hate Arena because it encouraged you to get kills at all costs, including that of your teammates, and even losing the game.

Going 20-20 was preferable to 10-5.

In H4, I want to see a system LIKE Halo 3's, but perhaps different. I will be surprised if there is no actual rank system. I mean, Reach had Arena.

I completely agree with this thread. I've played the halo series since halo 1 and halo 2 and 3 were by for the best when it came to ranking system. Without a good ranking system there is nothing to strive for. The reason there is matchmaking rankings at all is to play competetively. Gaining xp and credits overall is stupid. I'm not 12 years old anymore, I don't play the game to make my guy look cool, I play because I want to be better than other people who play and I want them to know it too! I for one have already decided to wait to buy this game until I see how the ranking system works. If it's anything like the halo reach ranking system, I will be looking up the ending to the halo series on youtube.
