NickisNixed
*Spoilers* Basically, after playing Halo 4 and watching the terminals, my question now is: who fired the Halo array to end the Forerunner-Flood War? In Halo 3, the terminals seem to indicate that the Didact ultimately resorted to firing the Halo array to defeat the flood. In the conversation logs with the Librarian, it seems pretty clear that she stranded herself on Earth, and would die as collateral damage. However in Halo 4, the terminal videos seem to indicate that the Librarian neutralized and exiled the Didact to Requiem before she was stranded on Earth and before he was able to fire the Halo array. Therefore, I am now thoroughly confused as to who fired the Halo arrays. Am I missing something or is this just a continuity issue / ret-con? XiKeiyaZI
Per the lore, novels, etc - The Didact fired them. Keep in mind that there are 2 Didact : If you follow the Novels.
NickisNixed
So then, when the hell did the Librarian exile the Didact? Or was this the "other" Didact you refer to?
XiKeiyaZI
Based on what we know of the Bornstellar Didact - he was sympathetic to the human race, though questionable of them when he was still simply a Manipular. After the Ur-Didact performed the ritual with him to transfer his thoughts and memories into him, effectively elevating him into the Didact, it was speculated and believed that the Ur-Didact was killed. This was not so. Now with the final Forerunner book by Greg Bear having not been released yet, we can only assume : But based on what we know about Bornstellar, his attitude towards humans, his physical appearance, and his overall personality - this Didact was not him. It's hard to say it was the Ur-Didact either as they were both described as being massive, muscular, intimidating beings with white patches of fur on their heads and shoulders with alternately colored eyes. The one shown in 4 so far from resembled the Didact(s) detailed in the books that 343 Sponsored : which leaves us wondering how they messed that up or if it was a Didact at all. For all we know, it could be a Builder and a confused Fragment of the librarian as it was certainly not her. Also Guilty Spark believes the Librarian to be alive which we should be able to see at the release of the next and final Forerunner novel. The Didact believed her to be dead. So this leads to think that perhaps this was an alternate Forerunner and a fragmented and confused Ancilia. Who knows? They've kind of birdwalked away from the story anywho so there's no justifying anything. http://www.halopedia.org/Didact All absolutely accurate information. Sierra1117
The Didact in the game is the Ur-Didact because in the terminals he talks about the Human-Forerunner war, and Bornstellar wasn't even alive then. So the Ur-Didact was exiled, and Bornstellar activated the rings, killing himself in the process
