Ok I have been playing halo 4 for a while now and there is something that is bothering me... it seems like halo 4 has removed a lot of stuff, I mean A LOT OF STUFF that the previous halo games had.

for example

1. no trueskill system (1-50): seriously? why remove it just because the bad players complain?

there was a reason why halo 3 was more balanced than halo reach and 4 (it matched players depending on how well they did ex:

bad players will be paired up with bad players

while pros will be paired with pros etc)

2. Playlist is short: yes, yes i know its going to be updated but how will you feel if they don't add classic modes like... a normal ffa (regicide is cool but the classic ffa was fun)

3. No proper assault modes: yes there is grifball and you could just modify it... but where is the explosion, grif is suppose to die... there is a reason why its called "grifball"

4. Forge maps: the maps Impact, Erosion, and Ravine are "bloodgulch-sized" maps... they are not REAL forgeworld maps

5. Theater mode: this... this is whats bothering me... where is theater mode for CAMPAIGN and S-OPS!?

6. Custom games: I don't need to explain this... a lot of people complained about it...

7. Join in progress: how do you feel when every match you join is either: about to end, you are put in a losing team with impossible odds, and unbalanced?

8. Campaign: campaign was good but not good like halo 3s one or halo 2s, where is the epic music playing loudly in the background all i hear is ambient noises, where is the freedom? the missions felt linear, and wheres the epic moments (odsts dropping in to help then loud drum beats play etc...)

9. Scoring system: where is the scoring system for s-ops and campaign? without them they feel... boring

10. Menu: why did they have to make the menu too.... exaggerated? seriously they could have done a Reach-like menu where an artistic background is in it not a 3d background (serously it made the Framerate drop... and your in a freaking menu)

11. balance: halo 3 had perfect balance in matchmaking, halo reach was meh, halo 4... wtf why am i paired up witht he pros... im not that good.. pair me up with someone with equel skill as me not someone who could kill me every five seconds

12. DMR: its overpowered and is now the most overused weapon

13. 1-50 only in waypoint: wtf I want to see my rank next to my profile not exit the damned game just to see my rank... otherwise whats the point?

14. Unneccesary quicktime events: personally i believe this is the reason why there is no theater for campaign... plus its useless... it also takes you away from halo experiance

15. S-ops repeatative: why are all the mission just recycled maps with different objectives?

16. firefight is gone: dumbest decision to remove it. s-ops is gold only, what happens if you only have silver or no online at all... i wanna kill some time by killing prometheans and covies (hell firefight is also a good way to show off the deadliness of the prometheans)

17. Xp Cap: i don't need to explain this

18. Kill cams: kill cams are innacurate, you watch a killcam yet the dude killed you YES HE WAS LOOKING AT A WALL!

19. ODST helmet: seriously where is it?

20. Emblems needs to be unlocked: wtf? is this!? why do i need to unlock them when in other halo games they are already available!

21. kill system: where are the matches where kills matters... this are matches where you can actually show off your skill in this game... not get an assist every 5 seconds yet end up being number 1!

22. 343i: the fact that they are listening to the casuals and kids when they should pay attention to the fans who have been playing this since halo 1 and 2!

23. Vehicles: they need to balance some of the vehicles... or nerf some (banshee is weak and sluggish)

24. Map variarety: more maps to vote... how many times have YOU played ragnarok on Big-team slayer?

I have to say I agree with a lot of what has already been said. I think a classic play option may help with some of us, Preset loadouts etc.

 

The biggest issue I have had so far is lag. I liked being able to select to search for local games in order to reduce this, living in NZ i pretty much have to play against local players or the game just does not work. To me the way Halo Matchmaking finds connections seems to have speed of game finding rated higher than good connection, this needs to be fixed. A Good game is worth waiting for.

 

In relation to the Lag I am finding the Kill cam seems to go from my point of view, not my rival. If there is lag I want this cam to show what they actually did, not them shooting at empty air and me spontaneously dropping dead. What is the point of a kill cam if it just makes us angrier about the lag we are already annoyed with. The Kill cam works in other games and usually shows us, "oh I was lagging and he did have a head shot on me, ok thats fine".

 

It just seems like so much was put into this game that some of the basics were overlooked, such as the glitch checks on maps (no super jumps, hiding holes etc.) Weapon balance (DMR) and the kill cam lag issue really should have never made the game. The most recent 18 Regicides goal, did anyone stop to think if that was really practical? I mean mathematically it just doesn't seem to add up, and I find myself wondering if that was missed then what else is not right. I really do worry that you guys took Bungies halo baby, and tried to add to much to it to quickly before proving yourselves, and this stands out especially when all of us are giving extra scrutiny on your first attempt.

 

I do not mean for this to be all negative, as I loved the campaign and the story was told masterfully (though i think the story for spartan ops is sort of outside of the games lore, (Palmer keeps dissing science geeks? WTF she is in a set of science armor, surrounded by a science ship, with science gravity and masterfully designed scientific weapons, on top of all of that Spartans were trained to be incredibly smart to the point that they could themselves be scientists. I just don't get whoever wrote that script and wish they read some of the books before designing a character for common pop culture and not halo fans)

 

On the plus side I really enjoy Dominion and think that is a nice touch to spartan training on Infinity, as well as the level system for unlocking perks etc. Though I agree a ranked system would be good on the side, that is what separated halo from call of duty in my opinion.

So far the most fun I have had in Halo 4 has been in custom games and matchmaking sessions where the entire enemy team aren’t just sat across the map ducking in and out of cover with a battle rifle or DMR. Two guns which just ruin the game entirely to my mind. So here’s a list of things I would change:

 

-Reduced backwards movement speed so backing away firing with a ‘precision’ weapon isn’t a guaranteed kill against someone with an automatic gun in close range. Would also make the sword and hammer rightfully dominate in close quarters again and give the oddball carrier a fighting chance.

-Either a return of the old loss of scope when hit feature or a sway you can’t simply counter for as if it doesn’t exist. I dread to think how the game will play when everyone uses the Rogue specialisation...

-Reduced damage against vehicles for the Battle Rifle. When the enemy has a Banshee in the air killing it should prompt you to make a rush for that rocket that’s just spawned in... not simply spam the thing with rifle fire from half way across the map.

-Slightly reduced damage against vehicles with the sniper rifle. I appreciate it is meant to be an anti material round but that doesn’t mean it should be the single most effective anti vehicle weapon. So maybe just an extra shot to kill would be good.

-Minor increase on plasma grenade splash damage. Not by much... but at the moment it seems a bit illogical that a stick is a kill whereas a grenade a foot away is just like an overly flashy party popper...

-More reward for EMP disables. So many times now I have hit a vehicle with EMP, stuck it with one grenade but died before throwing the second only to get a measly handful of points for doing all the hard work whilst a teammate that just strayed into the fray mops up with an unjust double kill... minor issue but there we go.

-Slightly reduced range on the Bolt Shot charge up. Just slightly.

-A little more splash damage on the Railgun and more damage vs vehicles... considering it’s bigger brother is used to bombard planets from space it currently feels a bit... useless.

 

 

So yes, just some balance issues from my perspective. True I am biased in that I hate the poxy Battle Rifle but then it doesn’t require more than a cursory look at the game to work out the thing is overused to hell and there must be a reason behind this...

Well. For starters, I can't play this game online. Internet is just fine, two pc's work fine, laptop works fine, every other Xbox game works fine, even Reach works online just fine. Halo 4 kicks me out of matchmaking games all the time, sometimes out of Xbox Live. Usually it doesn't even let me search games, says that error with the servers or smthng. NAT has always been OPEN, nothing has changed in router settings etc. but now H4 sometimes say that NAT is moderate, sometimes open. I've enabled uPnP in router settings, and opened ports 3043 and 88. I've also tried clearing cache, reinstalling war games disc and redownloading my profile.

 

Im sad because this game rocks, but in previous few days, I've been able to play maybe less than 10 games.

What to do then :/

so my only issue with machmaking is when my buddy and i live in the same house and run off the same connection and we can connect to games just fine when on our own . but when we party up the game will not connect us and we have reset our wireless connection numerous times and relocated the router countless more. what could be the issue and if anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated

First off thank you so much 343 for the great job you have done with Halo 4. Let me also thank you so much for doing what Bungie never did, and that is actually care about the competitive aspect of the game. I was very impressed when I saw that you had the MLG pros testing Halo 4 and I was even more impressed when representatives from 343 were present at the first MLG Halo 4 tournament. Quite frankly I was sure the days of competitive Halo were over once Reach was released, but I see there is hope yet. It is good to know that Halo is in good hands. I could go on about all of the things 343 is doing that I love, but this thread asks for matchmaking deficiencies and that's what I'm going to give. Please understand that I'm not trying to whine about how everything isn't the way I want it, but just where I think improvements should be made and some suggestions of how to do so. I apologize for what is sure to be one of the, if not the longest post on this thread, but I want to optimize the Halo experince and make sure Halo reaches its former glory.

 

#1 Joining games that have already begun:

This is a terrible problem. I understand that you probably incorporated it into the game to solve the issue of teammates quitting out and having to face a team alone. One of the main perks Halo had over Call of Duty was that you always started a fresh game. You never entered into a game where you got stuck with a team that's already down by 30 kills and destined to lose. As I'm typing this I joined a game where the whole team had already quit, leaving me to play 1v4 with only about 30 seconds remaining, and another where the team was 0-150. To put it simple, even though the goal is to make it fair for players who have been abandoned by their teammates, it really makes it unfair for people who are just trying to find a fresh game. This negatively affects win percentage and K/D.

 

An idea of how to fix this issue is to make it optional. Incorporate search options into matchmaking. This way we can select whether or not we'd be willing to enter into a game that has already been started as well as search for players with good connections and all of the other filters we were able to apply back in previous Halo games such as Halo 3.

 

#2 Limited Competitive Maps

While Halo 4 runs really well, it doesn't have the maps to make it a balanced, competitive game. So far Haven and Adrift seem to be the only maps that are symmetrical and have good spawns. Abandon is too one sided where the team that spawns on the high ground is given a huge advantage, given that those players understand how to do so. Whenever you die on Complex you spawn on the outskirts of the map and are completely open to spawn killing by any opponent(s) that see(s) you. Most of the other maps are too big for competitive play or just aren't suited for it. Please include more competitive maps in later DLC. An EXACT replica of Lockout or The Pit would be appreciated ;)

 

#3 No Ranked Playlists

I know that this is something that is already being worked on, but it is something that needs to be solved asap. I'm tired of playing with people that don't really know what they're doing. I understand that we all have to start somewhere and that it really isn't their fault, but that is why we need to be divided by skill rank. It really isn't fair to lose because you have teammates that are new and it isn't fair to them to have to play against people with a lot of experience with Halo and can easily get 30 kills on them. It's discouraging for everyone, so please incorporate the ranked playlists as soon as you can. Among those I would definately like to see ranked Team Slayer, MLG, Doubles, and Sniper playlists.

 

#4 Melee/Assasinations

I've seen multiple occations where someone is in the middle of assassinating an opponent and out of nowhere the assassination is cancelled and the opposing player isn't even damaged, so that's an issue.

 

Personally I'm not a fan of the assassination animiations. I think that they're cool but I don't think that the psychological impact outweighs the amount of time that it takes to perform. However a lot of the time that I try to just go for the classic back smack it activates the assassination animation and it throws me off and sometime gets me killed, especially when I see the opportunity for multiple back smacks. Please fix.

 

The range of the lunge is much shorter than in previous Halo's. You practically have to be right in someone's face to hit them. A lot of times players find themselves playing air boxing with an opponent thinking that they're going to hit them, but don't. It really throws off the flow of the game. This is just personal preference but I would like to see the lunge put back to normal. I've heard many other people complain about this and I think it would be best if the lunge were modified.

 

The last issue with the melee aspect is the amount of damage melee attacks do along with the amount of time it takes to recover from a melee attack to perform a consecutive melee attack. I know this is going to sound like it contradicts my last point, but hear me out. There are a lot of times where you are in a confined area where reaching into that small lunge range is easily possible. A lot of times when players are in this type of situation they will wait for an opponent to approach and then sprint 2 or 3 paces and quickly melee him twice for a kill. That's not skill that's just dirty gameplay that defeats the point of the game being a SHOOTER in the first place. This was also an issue in Reach, but was quickly fixed. Though it was a bigger problem in the previous title due to the larger lunge range, it is still a problem in Halo 4. We've seen two very successful melee mechanics in Halo 2 and Halo 3. Halo 2 had less melee damage, requiring 3 melee strikes for a successful kill, but a quick recovery time. Halo 3 had more melee damage, requiring only 2 melee strikes for a kill, but longer recovery time which made it more effective to punch and then finish the kill with a shot to the head. Both mechanics were very popular and very successful. If the range of the lunge were to be increased a bit and the melee either did less damage or had a longer recovery time, the melee system would be smooth, consistent, and a heck of a lot less annoying.

 

#5 Trading kills

This is probably the most annoying bug in the game so far. What I mean by trading kills is when two players kill each other when one of them should've survived. Players frequently find themselves trading kills, whether its double headshots (especially in SWAT), double melees (less frequent, but it happens), or even trading bullets with non precisions weapons (ex: Assault Rifle vs Assault Rifle, Scatter Shot vs Shotgun, Scatter Shot vs Storm Rifle etc.) This completely destroys multiplayer, let alone any competitive play. Please fix this ASAP.

 

#6 Death Cam

Not really important, but the death cam never actually shows what happens. If you get killed by someone long distance with DMR it shows the DMR taking turns firing shots 10 feet away from your spartan and then you just drop dead. Doesn't affect gameplay, but I thought I'd bring it up.

 

#7 Instant Respawns

It just throws off the flow of the game completely. Yes it make it faster paced, but it just makes it chaotic. It's hard to encourage teamwork and control a map if you've got a constant horde coming after you. And it's more than frustrating when you when a 1v1 battle and the guy just spawns instantly and finishes you off. The kill loses all satisfaction. Games should be about working together to establish control and earn a win by being a team, not by who can get the most lucky kills in the chaos of constant spartan rushes. If players were to die as fast as they do in Call of Duty, then maybe it would work (for slayer gametypes) but that just isn't the case with Halo; and in my opinion is another reason why Halo will always be better than COD. It has that element of control. It's not just crazy, random killing.

 

Also, not related but if you could add more objects and scenery to work with in Forge, that would be most appreciated :)

1. As said before, add in ranked playlists so people don't have to play with the guys who are super competitive all the time. I always had a lot more fun in Halo 3 because of the social playlists. Everyone is a bit more relaxed and if I felt like being really competitive , I could go play in the ranked playlist.

 

2. Search for people in your rank group. I'm sick of being grouped up with level 70s when I'm in the mid 30s. We end up being spawn killed over and over again.

 

3. Nerf the DMR. I feel forced to use it to get kills. There's no point in using the carbine or light rifle when the DMR is more powerful and accurate.

 

4. Add bigger maps. There's still forge world type maps where large maps can be made. Most maps, I feel like I'm spawned in the middle of everything and then killed immediately.

 

5. Add a classic playlist.

*No loadouts, no sprinting, no armor abilities

* Classic weapons (no DMR, no forerunner weapons)

* Weapons spawn on the map( consistently not just once)

* Assault, classic CTF

 

I'm sure I'll think of more later but that's what I can think of for now.

I have only a few issues with online multiplayer as it stands. These issues are:

 

- DMR as a spawn weapon is slightly overpowered. On more open maps with greater sightlines, it is not uncommon to die from long distance fire without any way of reacting in time and I have on numerous occasions spawned under DMR fire and died instantly.

 

- Plasma grenades should be limited to 1 per spawn to counter their sticky utility. I've lost count of the the amount of times players seem to make it their sole mission to bumrush people and throw stickies from breathing range. The most irritating thing about this strategy is that it gets a lot of sticky kills and the players win on massively negative kill/death ratios.

 

- Sniping is too easy! The crosshair has been enlarged and aim-assist (which is insanely overblown in Halo 4) allows for very simple use. One can snapshot with ease and 1 sniper can hold down an entire enemy team on maps like Ragnarok. On occasions where a team gains multiple sniper weapons from ordnance drops it just saps all the fun out a match, where you spawn and get skewered by multiple sniper rounds.

 

- One minor last point would be to re-iterate the over abundance of aim assist. A gauss gunner can rack up insane amounts of kills by simply pointing the crosshair in the enemies general direction. A red crosshair practically guarantees a kill, regardless of how improbable the shot might be.

 

Apart from these issues I am greatly pleased with how the multiplayer has worked out. I just don't appreciate the seeming lean towards making the game easier to play, and thus disadvantaging skilled players.

If your playing a team based game communication between your teammates will usually decide the victor ... the match making system must think im fluent in several languages cause when i join a game by myself i get paired with someone from mexico,italy,france,spain or germany..this also creates a ton of lag (rubber banding, shooting someone with way too many bullets ect) which has made me go from a top player and turned me into a coward ...im all for kicking ass around the world but not if the lag is going to take away from the integrity of the game :(

Can anyone tell me why my rank and classes are resetting after each match i play. I will play one match of team slayer with my set classes and rank at 36. Then as soon as it ends, my classes disappear and my rank goes all the way down to one. This is very frustrating. I get my ass kicked because i'm playing with people who are still level 30-50 and they have access to all their customized loadouts, but i'm trying to make due with what a level 1 has. I am not going to shut my xbox off after every match and reset it just so i can play a match. What is going on!

-You need atleast double the daily EXP cap, you guys aren't doing yourselves any favours by punishing us for playing the game. It is bs.

 

-Decrease the damage to vehicles inflicted by the BR, Sniper Rifle, DMR (small arms)etc. The only way you should be able to defeat a vehicle is by boarding it, EMPing it, with heavy weapons, with grenades or with another vehicle.

 

-You need to implement a booting system for AFK players, so that new ones can join.

 

-All the current maps aren't in the playlists, I'm sick of only playing on a couple of maps.

 

-There should be NO betrayels in any matchmaking. It will prevent griefing.

 

-The DMR needs its fire rate slightly lowered so that it is balanced or maybe a shorter zoom when scoping. Currently it is overpowered and decreases the value of the snipers.

 

-The playlists are cluttered and don't have a good variety within each playlist.

 

-Make it clearer which team won in the postgame stats.

 

-Bring back Top Medals to the post game stats.

 

-Bring back MVP to post game stats, in team games show the MVP for both teams.

 

-Bring back hit ratio and implement it into service records.

 

-Add a secondary ranking system, a TrueSkill system based on wins/losses and whether or not you have a positive overall K/D (if your K/D isn't positive you can't rank up), make it symbols not numbers, displayed next to the SR level.

 

-Clan System:

I've already posted my idea for what should be done with clans, here's what it is; Add a Clan section in the roster menu where you can start a clan, send/decline/accept clan invitations. Have a 'Clan Kudos' reward system where you gain Kudos for your clan when you play matchmaking with fellow clan members. You could further implement this by providing clan daily/weekly/monthly challenges. Implement a Clan section in Halo Waypoint where there are clan leaderboards.

 

Playlists should be as follows, with the majority of the on disc maps included in each where possible (obviously don't have Vortex in Team Doubles).

 

Classic Slayer:

5v5 Team Slayer, No loadouts, No Ordinance, weapons on map like classic Halo.

 

Infinity Slayer:

As is, 4v4 infinity slayer.

 

Flood:

As is.

 

SWAT:

As is.

 

Team Objective:

Merge King of the hill, CTF, Oddball and Dominion into one playlist.

 

Team Doubles:

2v2 Slayer and also Oddball and King of the Hill and One Flag gametypes.

 

Regicide:

No loadouts, everyone has random weapons, up the player limit to 8.

 

 

I would LOVE a response from staff. Please.

I keep getting an issue where my loadouts would disappear mid-game, allowing me only to select the two default ones. It also resets my SR level back to 1 and I have to re-boot the game for it to come back. This has happened in the past, but it is now happening more often since I hit SR 40; whether the level has anything to do with it, I don't know.

 

At any rate, this is preventing me from enjoying multi-player to it's fullest, as I my play-style is limited. Hope this gets fixed soon.

What I feel Halo 4 MP needs is the ability to search for games with good connection. This feature was included with other Halo titles and it's frustrating not to have that option there. I'd be happy to see this added in a patch some time soon.

 

Also, the glitch on Complex where people are able to get inside the wall and hide is extremely annoying and ruins games of Oddball and Flood on that map. I really enjoy the Oddball game type, but once I see Complex come up everyone votes for it so they can just get into that spot so the enemies can't touch them.

  1. Main issue here, either stop or toggle the feature of joining games that are almost done, halfway through, or even a couple minutes into the game. This is Halo, not CoD, and Halo should ALWAYS start games from the begginning, we have custom games for joining. I can not count the amount of times I've been put into one sided games which just add to my list of lost games.
     
  2. Weapons on the map. The idea of power weapons being on the map and randomly respawning is awesome, but what about the weapons you start of with? Like many others, I find myself runing out of ammunition quite often, left with the choice of having to scavange for other peoples weapons which results in death most of the time. Bring back loadout weapons to the map, at a constant spawn so people can learn their spawn, but leave the power weapons at random.
     
  3. Vehicles are way to destructive. I love the idea, but it does make them quite useless. All a person has to do to a warthog is stick it and boom, double kill!
     
  4. XP cap, are you really discouraging your players from playing the game? Seriously, reaching 150k xp in a day is quite impossible unless you play all day, but even when you do, people find themselves having to wait hours before they can play after the midnigh reset. You dont want people getting ahead of others, well thats their deal nobody really complains and im sure the lower level people dont complain either. If your main concern was for the little guy, you're also limiting them. If you keep the XP cap just so the little guy can "catch" up, they too will eventually reach the cap and be stuck with having to wait till they can start earning XP again. Reward your players, not punish them. XP cap, really, who does that?
     
  5. Playlist. I know you added SWAT, but there should have been way more options at launch then what you offered. The amount of playable options is what made the Halo multiplayer legendary, dont ruin it.
     
  6. Assassination glitch. Its happened to me a few times where, like mentioned previously, the animation will stop and the person being assassinated will temporarily walk out of it and be given the chance to fight back. Even though eventually they will die to the assassin, they shouldnt be allowed to get out of it to fight back lol.
     
  7. Lastly, fix your servers. I, like many others, have been victims to your server crashes where we are reverted back to level 1 and we can not join other regular people and we're stuck with playing playlists with no more then 100 people. With an added after effect, your loadouts tend to reset when things go back to normal.

And those are my two cents. Most of the stuff has been said before, but I'd like to reinforce them and seriously bring them to your concern.

I bought the limited edition of Halo 4 and yet upon reaching level 50 was only allowed to choose between the two basic specializations, even after having typed in the code and all the way up to that level, and infact today when I logged on again after choosing one of the two the other 6 are all back and locked... Also I completed the monthly challenge yesterday and upon logging in today I don't have the exp I watched myself get last night... Am I going to be compensated for either???
