Microsoft To Release 2 Versions Of The Next Gen Xbox

It has been reported that there may be two versions of the next gen xbox.

I'd like to see the cross-platform setup. Might create the possibility of playing future PC-only titles on XBOX and vice-versa. Just as a side note, the photo you used is just the newer variant of the XBOX360 with green text overlapping the 360 and a blur/glow effect.

I heard rumors that the 720 will only feature downloadable games and will only work on YOUR console. No more hard copies will be manufactured after the 720 is released. Anyone else hear this, too?

Well, that'll certainly reduce the amount of kids playing full AAA titles on the Xbox at Christmas.

There is some truth to this article, but not the part about the being 2. The original focus of the new console was to make it a "HUB", allowing the box to deliver cable television content. That is still up in the air, as Microsoft would have to have nearly a thousand different licences and box codes to shift thru in order to make each xbox compatible and recieve a legit signal from the cable providers. Not to mention the fact that the Cable companies would lose billions in box rental revenue.

 

The new Xbox is slated to communicate with Windows 8 pc's, but not the way we think. It will be able to deliver content to PC's running Windows 8, but only downloadable crappy arcade Live titles. Similar to what we already ahve now, as part of the Live Windows 8 expereince.

 

The part where 2 consoles comes in, is likely the basic model, which handles all the same content a console would be expected to. The second version is likely to be one that has the built in MS Glass and extendable 3d equipment. Not everyone would be able to afford a huge sticker price for a standard console packing next gen tech that has little to no use right now. The amrketing idea is likely to sell the second version to tech geeks, and allow simply family or budgeted types to enjoy the next gen expereince and be able to upgrade in the future.
