why the ending was good for all the Haters

Halo Lore Master

Spoilers abound

So I see many people complaining on here about the legendary ending and the revealing of the chief’s eyes. Halo 4 as a whole added so much depth to the Master Chief. In the first level alone he probably spoke more lines then he did in Halo: CE. A great emphasis was put on the chief as the chosen one by the Forerunners as the librarian said, I could have done without the whole planting seeds so the Chief will rise but whatever. That being said the Chief and Cortana have this pseudo love relationship going on since the end of Halo 2 and is explored more in Halo 3 and 4. In Halo 4 the dependence on each other is shown big time. Cortana and the Chief are both struggling to figure out who is the machine, it becomes apparent to us the in the level Composer when Cortana is extremely upset at the death of the scientists and crew of the station. The Chief on the other hand is just like let’s kill this *******, not showing any emotion. Cortana wants to be human, and the Chief is the chief, cold hard killing machine, right? When Cortana saves the Master Chief which is a little crazy since he had a nuke under his hand, but she has fore runner space magic right? Any way Cortana touches him and she says he wanted to do that for a long time. The chief wants to save her and bring her home with him. He has grown very dependent on her and her on him; can you imagine a Halo game without Cortana?

Ok this is where the ending comes in. After the final battle the chief talks to Laskey on board the infinity. You can see the Chief looking at Earth and he makes that comment about Cortana and who is the machine. That scene shows the chief is emotionally confused/ hurt/ messed up by the death (?) of Cortana. Lastly he goes and has his armor removed after 4 years of wearing it non-stop. They show us his eyes, we knew he was Caucasian from the books. But the revealing of his eyes proves to the non-book readers which I’m sure there are many of, that the Master chief is in fact not a machine, but just an old tired solider who saved humanity and needs some serious R&R. The Chief’s humanity and emotions were used in this game Bungie never did that, and for me it made the Chief, the character we have played as for the last 11 years actually feel like a determined individual and not just a killing machine. Be prepared people the chief emotions and what it means to be human will be explored even more in the next game.

That’s my take on Halo 4.
