Dog
Source-Examiner Speculation is mounting that Microsoft will announce a new games console, dubbed the Xbox 720, at the E3 video games show later this year. Rumours began when Lawrence Hryb, Microsoft's director of programming for Xbox Live, posted a timer on his blog counting down to E3 2013, the video games show that takes place in Los Angeles in June. However, Microsoft has not announced plans for a new console and, though fans refer to the successor to the Xbox 360 as the Xbox 720, it is not known what the next generation console will be called when it is eventually announced. Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 in 2005, replacing the original Xbox which was released in 2002. The move gave Microsoft an advantage over rival Sony, which did not release the PlayStation 3 until 2006. It is now generally felt that both those consoles are coming to the end of their product cycles, though it is not clear when replacements might be forthcoming from either company. A new console is a major investment and one that doesn't make its money back for some time. It takes time to sell new consoles in significant numbers and the best games and services are seldom released in the early days of a new machine because developers need time to learn the new hardware.
