SatanicBagels
Looking on the forums these past few days a lot of news has surfaced about the Valve Steambox and stuff like the Piston Xi3. It appears that a lot of people don't fully understand what it is, what it will be, or what it will do. Recently I saw a pretty good info roundup on the thing and decided that it would surely make better sense of it than I ever could. The Steambox will run Linux' date=' but the OS can switch fairly easily to Windows.[*']Valve wants to make the controller more responsive/less laggy than the normal console controller, mainly because increased accuracy is what has attracted people to PC gaming over playing on consoles. Motion controls have basically been ruled out, as Newell says that for their controller, motion controls will not work. “Biometrics” will be the main focus for their controller, since they recognize that looking into biometrics allows for much better accuracy and response time. The Steambox is going to be licensed out to manufacturers that will comply with Valve’s specifications, so therefore there will be more than just one Steambox on the market. Although, Valve will have their own “official” one that will likely lead the way for Steambox. The Steambox will come out with three price points (Good, Better and Best.) It looks like the prices will play out like this, Good = $99, Better=$300, Best= Some price quite a bit higher.) Knowing Valve this will very likely be a massive success and I may just have to pick one up myself. Other parts of the article (linked below) refer to the ability to be customized and upgraded internally after you buy one. It seems to me that Valve wants to combine the best of both worlds, the PC and Consoles that is. SuperIntendant
With an SSD they can't possibly get the price under $500, with a 1TB SSD like they said they would have, there is no chance it's going to be under $1,000, so I might refine your prices a bit. That's the Piston Xi3 not the official Valve Steambox.
