Spartan Ops changes to add some challenge..

Personally I liked the majority of the spartan ops levels I have played. I do think the new ones eg episode 6 seem to be better though.

However they stll have the same problem namely - INFINITE LIVES.

So I say this sincerely to 343 industries ....

Can you change this by adding some options, at least in PVT matches and maybe have an option in public matches as well?

How about play it like you do in the multi player campaign, if everyone dies then you go back to the last checkpoint.

OR

Have a certain amount of lives per team (this could be changed by the player to add challenge or make it easier if too hard)

Taking away the challenge for me takes away the accomplishment of the missions.

Surely this wouldn't be a difficult option to patch in?

Just for comparison, halo : reach's firefight mode had loads of options in PVT matches and some in the player matches, infinite lives + 10 lives per team.

Spartan ops to me is a good mode apart from this problem.

Also - would it be possible to add the "skulls" from the single player campaign into spartan-ops, so the host has the option of turning them on? (just a suggestion this one, not sure if possible?)

A post from someone who works at 343 industries would be appreciated on this specific topic. After reading through some other posts both on this forum and others online this does seem to be a fairly frequent complaint about spartan ops and if it could be changed via a patch as suggested earlier this would add alot of replay value to these missions IMHO.

Victory element,

To me this seemed a strange choice for 343 industries to have infinite lives/respawns as the only spartan ops setting.

Surely patching in some options for this mode would be possible?

I confess I am not a programmer so I am not sure what is possible or not BUT this seems a fairly small change.

Checkpoints and having the spartan ops work like the campaign when it is played with 2 to 4 players is one option.

Having a certain amount of lives is another which perhaps as mentioned could be adjusted by the host.

Personally as spartan ops are short missions I don't have a problem with being able to fail each mission and having to start again.

Going back to previous checkpoint is another option.

I am hoping that 343 industries themselves might respond to this topic.

Yes, I agree the missions can be fairly simple to complete and somewhat repetitive.

I did like how eps 6 started with crimson team lost and did not have access to load outs. They should have kept them lost for more chapters to keep things interesting. So not to loose the interest of those liking the loadouts they worked hard to build up, alternate missions/chapters between crimson team (no loadouts) and another team like majestic (with loadouts) would have worked.

To increase the difficulty 343 could also design the missions to be more cooperative. It is easy for everyone to run and gun together racing to the next checkpoint, mowing down everything. However, just adding friendly fire to the mission would add to the difficulty. You would have to be careful to not kill your teammates and get a "betrayal". They could also create missions where multiple objectives had to be secured at the same time in order to complete the mission. That is the team might have to break into smaller groups, maybe even individuals. This would promote more cooperative team play and reduce the linear gameplay. This would have work really well for eps 7 ch 3 "Engine of Destruction". Instead of having each nuke light up one by one to be disarmed they could have had them all light up all at the same time. Having the nukes equidistant from each other would have reduced the linear gameplay as they could be disarmed in any order. The spartan team would have to then decide to stay together or separate to disarm the nukes.

Just my two cents, but I hope 343 does read these posts.

Havoc

P.s. I really miss the funny dying sounds the Spartans and covanant use to make. As well as the outrageous comments the firefight voices had. They really helped getting through the longer more tedious missions.
