Player Population!!

The thread was not really about why people were not playing I was stating a fact that the same day same time 1 week before there seemed to be approx 3 times more people playing. It was a comment on the drastic drop and I was more worried that 343 had altered something so i did not see all the players online for some reason (mythought being i could only see fellow gamers who have not bought the Map packs)

The reasons why people have quit are many and far between but a sudden exodus usually has a fairly consistent reason.

The reason is obvious.

6 million casual players buy the game. 1 million normal players buy the game.

The 6 million drop out a few weeks after launch because they don't care as they are the casual gamer. So BOOM, major player drop there.

The 1 million play for a while and slowly trickle away. Of course not everyone is on at the exact same time.

Just look at CoD's numbers. TON of people buy it because its CoD then the leftover population is small compared to initial numbers.

As for the statement saying BO2 takes more skill that statement is quite silly. CoD does not take to much skill to play. Just use a gun with the highest rate of fire, easiest way to rack up kills.

Point is the low population is not solely 343's fault and dont expect the high numbers of before, for that to happen Halo 5 would have to bring in a huge demographic of people ( which includes casuals) and compete with the dozens of other titles that are coming out.

Black Ops 2 is the ********* COD ever made. Just saying. Worst lag handling ever. ********* Zombies ever. Complete ripoff made by ******* noobs. I can tell you for sure that game figures are down the toilet too. Wont even last spring out. I can't believe I wasted money on that game. That franchise has got the last dime from me. Forever.

Halo 4 is still a joke though. Pity really.

10k is comical. 2007-2008 you had like 5 mil XBox 360s sold. If even that. Now you have 30. So yeah 10k is a huuuuuge success indeed.

^^^ This

Halo series has never and I mean never reached this low of a population under a 6 month period. Wake up 343i....

I am in full support of Bungie with Destiny and will be supporting them over 343 from this point onward. You can have Halo...

I "heard" the pop. peaked the other day at 42,000. If anyone can confirm that it would be great. But either way that is a low peak. Halo just isn't the game it was in 2007 anymore. I believe 343 at least sees this and is trying everything to get it back to life like a surgeon trying to stop his patient from flatlining. The weekly playlist updates and map pack releases and updates are testament to this. If that doesn't scream desperation, I don't know what does. To tell you the truth, I think that if 343 had done everything right it still would not have made much more of a difference. Look at the team throwdown playlist. Granted, it has its flaws but that was supposed to be "THE premier playlist to get your 50 in". I don't ever see that playlist get too far past 4K. This game was a flop, plain and simple. The only thing it managed to do like I said was make money and pray on the misguided hopes of the franchise's dedicated fanbase with the thought, "maybe the next one will be better". That is dissapointing, to say the least, that this sentiment is all most people really have.

And here is another thought. It is cold outside in a lot of places cuz of winter, so a lot of people are staying inside and playing video games. People are inside and the population is still this low? Wait until summer rolls around and people can do other things and more games people are anticipating get released. You will notice a difference. You'll probably notice a lot more kids online cuz of school being out.

I agree with your statements. Halo Reach and Halo 4 have both been flops, it's a testament of the direction Microsoft and big executives have set in motion for what they believe is maximum profits. Bungie understood what makes a game epic and proved this with Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3. As soon as the big wigs wanted to switch business models and not let Bungie have full control over their game.... Halo Reach was born. It was not Bungie's shining moment but, I have tons of respect of pulling their contract with Microsoft and giving them the franchise so that they can then again make a game that will be made for gamer's.

I am putting my money on Bungie > 343i

The game simply took to long to get competitive. The playlist arrived way beyond the point of people giving up on Halo. If this would have been the default game, it would be played list crazy. Since it took so long to release the competitive community never found a good mix and all the big leagues left Halo.

Releasing the gametype after all of this wasn't going to fix the damage that had been done.

This game is dead and my proof is this... I hold all kinds of adult beverage LANs at my place and Craiglist normally fills the last 4-6 slots of local friends that can't make it. Made a multiple posts about Halo 4 LANs etc...

I got 1 response is 3 weeks, I reposted the same thing but said CE LAN and I had to remove the posting within 3 days.

A game over 10 years old grabs people's attention, and on top of that they're willing to play on bubble TVs and beyond outdated Xboxes on top of that. Graphics and Gimmicks don't make a game, how the game plays is what it's all about.

I believe that. Heck, I would much rather go to a CE LAN party than a Halo 4 one. My friends and I still play Halo 2 on our original XBox as if the thing never got old. Things like that make me think it isn't Halo that is dying, but just this particular game.

That's what most people are referring to when they say HALO IS DEAD, because the current ones are. The older games are more popular, because of the gameplay is sound. One of my biggest complaints with Reach and Halo 4 is how often your character get stuck on ****. A little root in the ground is preventing me from walk, a little knot of the corner of the door frame keeps me from turning the corner and a flat wall doesn't have the same grenade bounce if thrown the exact same.

if you live in St. Louis, I'd throw ya an invite March 30th, finding more locals is what gaming is all about. People have lost most of their human interaction capabilities with everything being Internet based (not just gaming).

That's cool and all but I am in Chicago. Keep doing what you are doing though, as you are providing a valuable service to the Halo community. Bringing people together to play Halo like that is what keeps people remembering why Halo is so great in the first place.

I see your point though, with the prevalence of online gaming Halo has become largely a "faceless" game, which is probably why Spartan customization has become so emphasized in newer titles.
