How can Jun be dead?

i know this is an old topic that got people wondering what happened to him after halo reach came out, but please allow me to explain. From the last we saw of Jun, he was assigned to escort Dr. Halsey to Castle base after noble team secured her lab. The solution that i remember hearing was that the pelican that they were on crashed and Jun was killed. I may be wrong about this part, but thats just what i vaguely remember hearing. Now that halo 4 came out, we have seen Dr. Halsey as character in the story, and that she has not perished. Now, how is it possible that Jun died in Pelican crash escorting Halsey, but Halsey is still alive at this point?

 

I did try to do a bit of research about what happened after Halsey was escorted to Castle base. Jun's name was never meantioned in the information that i read, but other spartans played a role in defending Halsey. Castle base was intentionally destroyed by  halsey and the spartans to prevent the covenant from obtaining any ONI intel, so they escaped into the abandoned mining tunnels on which the base was built. eventually they were rescued by UNSC forces on a commandeered covenant vessel, which apperntly included Master Chief

 

So to get to the point, i just want to know if Jun had a confirmed death, and why it is possible that Halsey is still alive if he isnt

At Castle Base, Halsey had a Spartan Escort. The escort died saving her, that escort is believed to be Jun.

Escort dies = Jun dies = Halsey lived on.

Simple, all often Halo books concerning Reach and the events afterwards were all written before Halo: Reach was released. But the answer is still simply, Jun is dead. If you look at it according to the books, Halsey's pelican never crashed,but made it to Castle base fine, where she hide in underground tunnels, survived till MC came back. She disappears with a Spartan 2 from Castle base. (all occurs before  Halo Reach, Spartan 3's didn't exist in the Haloo universe, etc).

 

In books after Reach, she went to Onyx, where of all the Spartans there, only she and a few others survived (Story of Onyx traced in the Halo books after Reach's release. List of survivors out there). So could Jun have escaped Reach and gone to Onyx  separately from Halsey. Yes, but would he then die on Onyx, yes. So Jun is dead, unless he later survived on Reach for years.

At Castle Base, Halsey had a Spartan Escort. The escort died saving her, that escort is believed to be Jun.

That was a Spartan 2, as all the Spartans at Castle base were Spartan 2's originally(changed later after Reach). When Halsey disappeared with a Spartan and later showed up at Onyx, that was Linda (or maybe not, but it was a Spartan 2, who was named).

Well seeing as Halo: Reach doesn't exactly follow canon, I think it's pointless to try to rationalize Jun being alive. I think they're all just dead.

The story I've heard is Jun died protecting Halsey from the Arbiter (Before he was the Arbiter.) Or something like that. it was in one of the books...

Jun was not killed and as we know from Halo 4 neither was Dr. Halsey

Reach messed up a lot of stuff about the books. I think Jun is just dead, unless he was evacuated with the rest of the people from Castle base. Halsey was the one that stayed behind to blow the place up in the case Covenant got in, but she's later rescued by the Chief and other SPARTAN IIs. There's a fantastic fan-made comic called Fistfull of Arrows that tells how Jun escorts Halsey and dies protecting her. I myself consider it a part of the Halo universe, even though it's not "made official" by Bungie or 343, so it's still unkown if he's really dead. Either way, you should read it, you can look it up and read it on the internet.

I guess things are hard to put together since the books where released before halo reach. Things seem to be out of place in these events, but it's only logical to assume that Jun would be dead at this point

In the book's, Spartan III's were never on Reach, they were a secret created by Dr Halsey's Nemesis Colonel Ackerman, on the Planet Onyx (which was wiped off all record's and star chart's) and what Spartan III's did get off Onyx died in behind the line's action's.  Only Two Spartan III's survived off world action's, Tom and Lucy, who even survived to the end of the book, "The Ghost's of Onyx" along with a handfull of other Spartan III's (from the newest group of Spartan III's) and Spartan II's.

As for Jun, the game's and book's do not tally up, and as yet, i have not read the book(s) that explain's what happen's to Jun.  But, it is safe to say, he is dead.  I will lose no sleep over his death, for a Spatan, he was useless.

It does seem weird that Halsey survived with only her science lab jacket on and survived. But Jun died when he had SPARTAN ARMOUR ON! I miss Jun............
