Zandril
Hey guys. I have a question that's always bugging me. Other than for CTF, why is it a good idea (is it?) to place respawn zones on your map? I've seen maps that use respawn zones not just for CTF but for Slayer as well. I know what all the respawn zones do. I just don't understand why some players put them on their map for other gametypes rather than just CTF. Squally DaBeanz
Influence spawning for different teams, create static spawning for certain gametypes, reduce spawn trapping, give equal weighting throughout the map, strengthen dynamic spawning, etc.
Zandril
So.... on a medium-sized map, should I divide the map in half with two spawn zones for each team? And what type of respawn zones should I use? Normal or weak?
Squally DaBeanz
You generally don't need respawn zones for normal map functions, they're more of an advanced mechanic. Only set respawn zones and such for CTF. You want dynamic spawning in other gametypes, otherwise spawning becomes predictable and the dominant team can spawn trap and continuously spawn kill the other team. Trifle10
i use respawn zones for certain maps (did in reach) when i used neutral spawn points. this was great for team based gametypes. now i just use spawn points set to the required team. as squally stated "spawn traps", check for those and try to spot "hot zones". hot zones are spawn kill zones that may be able to be spawn killed or trapped, if theres an enemy or two on their side of the respawn zone (i call them hot zones). think of it like a tic tac toe grid, team a spawns in the far left column and team b spawns on the far right column (center is netural). now say you spot a "hot zone" at the center right square. too confusing, try this...beware those Spawn Traps its up to you whether you want to use them or not. try this...see how the map flows without the spawn zones. then make a spare copy of the map, add respawn zones, and re-test the map. see which works better. once done, delete the worse-er map

DoctorB77
I use respawn and anti-respawn zones to try and give weight to certain spawn points on my map. Test your map a lot and figure out what needs to be changed.
