Soon, I'd managed to stumble upon my Falcon, landed in a small clearing in some nicely found forest. If I'm not wrong, this was in the Quezon territory of Reach. Of course, I didn't know for sure after I was nearly blew out of the sky, and while I could easily check my tacpad, I had my entire armor system doing something....else.

'...Rendezvous at the Chapel of S....cis the fifth. Co-ordinates are..."

I listened intently to the radio that offered support to survivors, yet I knew deep down that it was also a call for help. Still, as I got into the pilot seat and marked down the co-ordinates, I realized that it would be a short flight and, thankfully, the skies for, for the most part (At least with my own eyes) clear of covenant aerial vehicles. If I don't go too fast, too high, I think I should be able to not attract any more. Still, I didn't know what to expect, so I had uncomfortable strapped a parachute to my back as I started to flick the switches and alter the manual adjustments to help with the liftoff of the Falcon. The familiar whir of the rotors and the ever-growing bellows of the engines started to fill my ears even as my beloved vehicle, minus the usual 2 marines sitting on the sides in the gunner seats, began to fly. Now, I would have to rely on the front turret should I ever come in contact with a banshee, and even then, I don't see how, without help, I would survive.

My chest throbbed from the now-dead Sangheili's torture. I'm certain that if I didn't know better, I would've taken biofoam and ate it, but...whatever.

OOC: You can't puppet my character but interaction doesn't require something like that. Simply something like 'Hey! There's a falcon above us!' *Picks up flare and waves* is simple enough when someone says 'requesting interaction.'

And the problem here, is that I can't find a sufficient way to interact with you when my character is in a falcon, while yours is about to be torn apart limb by limb by Elites in the middle of nowhere.

Oh well, I'll find a way. Watch.

"Rook! Rook!" The sound was barely audible, but still, it sounded like a shout, as if a person had left a radio on but climbed some meters above before saying something loud enough for the radio's audio receptors to catch the sound. Quickly, I stared at the frequency. It hadn't changed from that of the one that had had good quality from the church of whatever it was called. So if it was on the same channel.....then the chances of a trap was less likely.

I stared around my HUD, and, for a few seconds, sat there, in a flying Falcon, confused as to what to do. Should I help? See what was going on? Was it worth it?

And then it all snapped back to me. My thought processes and reaction sped up as I reacted to the need to act; Somebody was shouting, and in a warzone, this probably meant something bad. I quickly responded to the radio, although I wasn't sure if somebody would respond, and meanwhile looked around. There's a radar on the Falcon's systems, so if I get close enough, I should be able to find any UNSC survivors holed up unless they had their brain-chips literally dug out of them.

'This is Jason Copernica Leonardo of the UNS- Yaknowat? Screw formalities, is there anyone out there? Rook? Rook's friend?' I struggled with the communications, a faint glimmer of hope of being around others surfacing in my mind. All the more reason for me to speed up, as I pushed on the throttle instinctively, though I had no idea where I had to go.

*     *     *

5 minutes of knowing someone is out there but not knowing where feels like 5 minutes of fear, not of yourself but of others. For me, that means 5 minutes of suck.

So when I saw, on my enhanced radar and scanner systems (Falcon's are beast!), it felt awesome!

Then one of the enemies must've walked somewhere because beside the yellow dot, a red dot popped up as well. Thankfully it was nighttime so it was harder for them to see a Falcon hovering above them, but still, it wouldn't be that hard. Just one stare up and they'd be alerted to my position, so I don't have much time. Unless I'm wrong, that yellow dot must be the Rook dude I had heard to much about, but with that red dot being so close, he was probably captured, or worse.

I have with me an SMG and silenced pistol. In the Falcon's storage locks I think there's either a marksman rifle or an assault rifle; I'll have to go and see. And of course, there was still the issue of what to do with my Falcon....

So.....I guess.....I couldn't do anything without gunners. That...sucks.

Think. Think. There has to be a way to save the dude, so.......uh.......one Falcon Pilot against a group of Sangheili in a forested area. Chances are the Sangheili would have stopped in some clearing, and from the radar they DID stop, so..........what if...........

Screw it, I thought, and started to move myself in position. Unless by a massive stroke of bad luck the yellow dot started moving, I could, for now, lock the Falcon in position. Slowly but surely, I opened the hatch; Instantly, the wind from the rotors, which still created sound (Please don't look this way), impacted me. If it weren't for my adrenaline rush, I would have been blown right out of the seat - which I now began to stand on - and my helmet slowly started to tell me the dangers.

Shut up, I know the dangers.

Slowly, with one hand, I reached out, and grabbed the handlebar on the side of the hull, and then, with one swoop, I jumped off. For a second, my entire body was hanging, about a hundred meters high in the air, the only thing that I had stopping me from falling to death being a small handlebar that probably could have been passed off as a thick pen.

Then my momentum pushed me onwards and I landed right beside the gunner seat. Exhilarated, I tried not to shout in fear as I gripped the seat and pushed me forwards. For now the Falcon remained upright, although it did tilt several degrees. I hope that this didn't affect my plan, but.....quickly, I opened the storage hatch. Inside it was an Assault Rifle, ammunition loaded, the counter showing a clear crisp number, '32'. I prayed to whatever god stared upon Reach at the moment that the person I was trying to save down there had the ability to use a gun the moment I threw it down.....and that the gun won't be affected by the drop.

And that I lived through the next few seconds, as I took the same scenic route back into the pilot cabin, swinging. Of course, this time, I didn't have both hands, and one of them I used to throw the assault rifle into the cabin first. That was when my other hand slipped.

Ohgodohgodohgod nononononon!!!!!NO!NO! I frantically said in my mind, but I didn't have time to shout in fear. I simply couldn't react fast enough to fear, as my right hand, my gun-throwing hand, managed to grab hold of the edge. I grunted loudly, ignoring the fear, the butterflies that I most definitely didn't mistake for love in my stomach, as I tried my hardest to stress out my muscles, to at least pull myself back up. I wanted to survive. I wanted to survive. I...wanted...to...survive!

'Nnnnnggghhhhhhh!!!!' I grunted, the noise drowned out by the rotors that were in arms reach as I pulled myself back to the cabin.

Step 2.....complete.

Now for the hard part.

I kept the hatch up as I started to sit down. This next part of the plan would've been sooo perfect if I had an AI working with me - but I didn't. No; I'd have to rely on my instincts, my gut feeling as a capable pilot of the UNSC. I looked around for any handholds I could use, even as my heartbeat was literally audible, and continued to speed up. Any more craziness and for sure I'd have a seizure.

Damn. If only.

I breathed in, then breathed out. My helmet told me the distance between Falcon and ground, and I tried my best to calm down.....

But there wasn't any time.

I yanked a lever backwards and the rotors started to slow. As for the suspending rockets, they......stopped.

Hatch open, pistol and SMG tucked beside my seat, myself literally on the edge of it ready to jump out, an assault rifle in one hand and a handle in the other, I awaited the consequences of my reckless actions as the familiar feeling of falling emerged in my midsection, which didn't help at all as I readied.

60 meters......50......40.......30........25.......20..........19........

'Wort?' 'Wort!' came the sounds of the Elites starting their chat. I realized they'd seen me, and they'd probably been staring up wondering what I was for some time now. But time was, at this moment, this very second, on my side.

19 meters from the ground, and I turned on all the Falcon's upthrust capabilities to maximum. It started to slow, but it didn't seem to stop. Just as I thought that my timing was wrong and I was about to die from a crash, I felt the sensation of alottapain-in-my-legs. Also known as - it slowed. Enough.

8 meters from the ground and the final part of my plan began. I hurled the assault rifle in my hand towards the position of the yellow dot, now on my own radar rather than that of the Falcon's.

6 meters, and I stood up, the opened hatch allowing me all the space I needed to jump out. In my left hand I had a pistol, in my right an SMG.

4 meters, now or never, I kicked off.

3 meters; I was in midair, even as the shouts of Elites started to fill the air like a disease.

2 Meters.

The Falcon slowed to a stop.

Beneath it, an Elite with a pulverized skull. One other Elite pointed, said something that my own pumping blood drowned from the sound, and, adrenaline once again going around my already-stressed body,  attention from the Sangheili drawn to a Falcon hovering just a meter above ground, I started to spray and pray.

Definitely pray.

Ashley saw an AR on the ground, it literally just landed there. she tried her hardest to reach it, barely succeeding. she managed to shoot only the restraint on her right arm, and shot the other much more easily this time. she grabbed her helmet and turned on her target identification screen and saw three sanghelli left. she shot at one, taking down its shields in a few seconds, she finished it off. she ran out of AR ammo with two left, hoping whoever threw the AR had a gun too. she got behind cover just fast enough to avoid some plasma shots. "hey, other guy, i could use a little more help here!" she shouted

While the other person - who, helmetless, was a female (I guess she isn't Rook after all) pick up the gun and started to shoot her restraints. Still, I couldn't busy myself with that. In a no-cover zone, the only element I had was surprise, and even as I sprayed my SMG into one Elite to my right and at the same time tried to fire my pistol into the face of one on my left, I couldn't handle this much recoil at the same time. By sheer luck the Sangheili to my right had idiotically drawn his sword and tried to charge me, only to be hit by each and every single bullet I fired.

He fell, and I quickly ducked and rolled to the side, letting the other Elite's now raised Needle Rifle's purple crystallic shards pass over my head. Again, I unleashed all that I could shoot. In the side of my eye I saw the other girl fire off her Assault Rifle against one Elite before being forced back to cover. I prayed she would live long enough for something nice to happen, and I then prayed that I would live long enough for that to happen as well.

The second Elite was downed, a war-cry emitting from it's 4 jaws as it fell to the ground. I looked around; there were 2 more, and both were shooting at the girl. 'Hey, other guy,' I heard as she shouted, 'I could use a little more help here!' I couldn't think of a witty response.

Lucky for both of us, I knew just what to do. I span, jumped, grabbed hold of a nice something and pulled myself up and onto the turret seat of my Falcon.

In seconds the Elites were cleared.

'Naw, I wasn't. I was stationed in New Alexandria, helping evacuate the citizens there. When we were given a choice to help evacuate those stuck here, obviously we agreed. There were some pelicans, a group of Falcons, but then the Covvies attacked en-route. I.....well, our aerial squad was separated, and then they took out my gunners. I know that there are survivors, but I'm the only one who made it here.....'

I look around. We were in a forest....somewhere.

'I heard on a radio frequency tuned to some church about a guy named 'Rook'. Know him?'

At this point, I realized what was going on. This girl must've had her family living in or temporarily located at New Alexandria when the Covenant began their assault. I realized that what I said next would determine her attitude for some time - the difference between a solid yes and not knowing was very large, and I couldn't just......

But......

I hesitated.

'My falcon, along with others, were for some time escorts for a Pelican. From the com chatter that I heard from one of them, I think there was a mention of a Jones family, although whether they were part of the family you're referring to, or just a family with the same surname, I'm not sure.'

I mean, I couldn't just say that I had no idea, right? Yet was a lie.....right?

Walking away from a pile of Elites that ringed the area in which Joseph stood. He put his energy sword away and walked to were he heard people talking. "Does anyone know were the guy with face rifle is I can't seem to find him?" Then he spot a camouflaged Elite walking up to were the two were talking. "Get out of the way" Joseph says and slashes the Elite in half with his energy sword. " Again do you guys know were the face rifle guy is he still disappeared? Ohh well then you look like pilot marine am I correct or not?"

My conversation with the Jones girl - whose first name I still didn't know - was cut short when, all of a sudden, a guy came out of nowhere, asked a question about some...face rifle.....?...of some sort, before suddenly running forwards, pushing me backwards. I was about to get angry when I saw him pull out a stolen Energy Sword and lunge upwards, slicing apart one final Elite who was in active camoflage before it managed to realize someone had seen it.

Internally, I had a sigh of relief  before picking myself up. The stranger turned back towards us, and asked the same question. 'Again, do you guys know where the face rifle guy is?'

I looked around. Unless the UNSC were concocting some crazy experiment that worked by implanting machine guns into people's faces, I didn't know any face rifle guy, so I simply shook my head. I didn't know about the girl though, and I didn't give it as thought as he continued with his questioning. 'Oh, well then, you look like a pilot marine, am I correct or not?' he asked me.

I don't know if he saw the stunt I just pulled which nearly cost me my life and my Falcon's life, but if he didn't see, my Falcon was right there,  just a few meters beside me. I gestured to it, hoping to answer the question. 'So...what brings you guys all the way here?' I questioned, even as I started to move towards the Elites. In particular, I started to pack up all the devices and technogadgets that seemed cool and usable. I'd pick up the usual covenant rifle and pistol, and also found an Energy sword, although I have no idea how it's used. The Elite who was sliced in half, unfortunately also had his active camouflage unit busted. I didn't know if there might've been some others in the area, but, even as I listened to any more questions to respond to, I worked to start and stock up on weapons and supplies into my Falcon.

Taylor jet-packed down from his perch, the jet-pack came from the shack, along with 75% of the other weapons. "I would be Face Rifle, thank you very much." as he continued to walk forward to the group, "I am pretty sure they saw that from down at the cathedral, which means... We, should go." He muttered to the pilot marine in front of him, he gestured his hand out, "Name is Taylor, she's Ashley, and that's the Rook.", he shook the pilot's hand and said, "I ain't a mechanic but I'm pretty sure that falcon is trashed." as he walked over to it, kicking it, and turning back to the camp, he walked over to a crate and pulled out two filters, tossing them to the pilot and Rook. He then said, "Alright, pilot, we have a map which leads to a supposed escape." as he walked towards even deeper woods and turned yelling back at them, "Well, you guys coming?''

"Alright then... Rook. Anybody else coming along." As he looked toward his misfit group, he picked up a Battle Rifle off the ground, a battle rifle he recognized, he looked over to Ashley and said, "Ash. Got something for you!" as he tossed the gun to her, and nodded, saying, "Welcome back."

Jacob continued to guard the entrance. Several burning grunts lay around 20 metres from the door. He did this partly out of necessity and partly because he didn't care. As long as he was receiving them, he was happy to listen to orders. As he finished off the last of the squad dropped by the Phantom, he didn't see anymore lights in the evening sky. Motioning to a marine near him to take watch, he joined the group, interrupting their conversation.

"So guys, what's the plan then? I'm soooooo excited to get into heat of battle again!" He looked back at the group, recurring quizzical looks from the ones who de-polarised or removed their helmets. "Okay, that was sarcasm. But what's the plan, there nothing left to kill out there so this is he most interesting thing here. Go on, shoot."

I look towards my Falcon. Sure, it looked totaled, but 20 seconds ago when there was a big fat firefight it had succeeded in maintaining a 1 meter hover with no movement and the turrets were fine. Before that, well......

Slowly, I walk over to the Falcon to check on the system status. I leaned over the hatch, and started to click buttons, toggle switches and read displays that no average marine would've been been able to understand.

It seems that in my previous stunt, I'd activated the rocket thrusters but the cooling system, which must've had taken a hit back in the fight against the Banshees, couldn't fully stop from melting much of the rockets. The rotors now had a much lower RPM while the rockets themselves may or may not explode upon usage. Not only that, but due to the already-weakened hull structure, the massive upthrust that was required just now had caused it to fracture and bend even more.

Nothing a mechanic couldn't fix with the right tools and materials, but for now, it....could definitely fly. The question is how long that would happen before it blew up. Milliseconds to never.

So what do I do with it?

I mean, I'm a pilot, not a marine. I can shoot, I can gun, I can run, but all of this is out of my comfort zone and worse, the Falcon is my home. There was no guarantee of another flyable vehicle elsewhere, and plus, this Falcon had only got this far because of my..other teammates.

Slowly, I turned to get the weapons from the storage locks in the Falcon. After all, no use keeping it all in there, right? Still, leave a Falcon to join a group of rag tag group of marines who's plan of escape included going somewhere in the forest, completely disobeying protocols? What about UNSC extraction?

I....I.....uh.......

I couldn't handle hit. Covenant weapon stash in hand, I closed my eyes as the stress closed my mind, and I fell to the ground with a loud thud, and laid there, unconscious.

"Alright, So you are a pilo-" Taylor spoke, but was cut off when he heard a thud, he turned and watched the pilot fall to the ground, he muttered, "****" and ran as fast as he could to the marine, he grabbed his arms and checked his pulse, he was alive, but didn't have all of his pulse there, then he stopped, he wasn't breathing. Taylor turned to the Rook and yelled, "Rook, get the f*cking breather, stat!" as he turned to the Pilot marine, he started to get worried the marine wouldn't make it, "**** ROOK! GET OVER HERE NOW!" As he kept trying to get him up, he turned to Ashley, "Ashley, I can't let another person die because of me, I won't!" Taylor ran to his own tent, grabbing a breather and shock pylons, to get the man breathing again, he kept shocking him erratically and pumping air into his mouth, saying, "C'mon pilot. Wake up." as the night went on.

6 Hours Later-

He stood over the man, and woke him up, saying, "Wake up Buttercup." as he talked to his conscious friend, "Don't worry, we found another survivor, we are getting off of this planet." as he handed him his Filter, saying, "We need to go, now. Radiation coming it, put your filter on."

After being told to look for a breather for the pilot marine by Taylor Joseph runs to his tent to look for his. Being told once more by Taylor Joseph speeds up in order to find it. Noticing that Taylor gets up and goes to his tent Joseph gives up and watches as he stands by not being able to do anything. As he stands and watches though Joseph begins to weep quietly so no one notices him. Mumbling he says "Again I am not able to follow an order through. D**N IT WHY IS IT ALWAYS ME! Why is it always me." he continues to weep for a little while longer till going over to the Elites he had killed earlier and starts looking for things of use. Finding an energy sword good for a few uses, a plasma cell(good for big booms and sabotage), a carbine optic scope , and a drop shield module. Talking to himself Joseph says "well it ain't much but it should get us through if we ever need to make something go BOOM". Smiling he runs over to Taylor and says "When he wakes up give him this would ya." and tosses the drop shield module to Taylor.

6 Hours Later

The pilot marine wakes up and Joseph says rise and shine. Would you like eggs with your bacon?" Joseph says to him "By the way we never did ketch your name, would you mind telling us?"

[its past tense, not present]

Jacob had some spare filters. After all, his customised armour was resistant to flame, chemical, bio and radiation attacks. Passing out gas masks to those without helmets, his sensors confirmed increasing levels of Beta radiation. Not too harmful compared to Alphas ionisation and Gammas penetration, but still bad.

"Alright, these face masks should protect you for say.... Twelve hours before the filters stop working. I have three spares, but I won't hesitate to remove yours of you are wounded- if radiation gets inside your body, you're toast anyway without anti-rad drugs. Equally, we have around two hours before the EM wave from the glassing hits. If we gt moving now, we can increase that to four at best, possibly avoid it altogether if we get transport, though electronic HUD will begin to be affected in about an hour before that. Keep yourself covered, a thin sheet of aluminium is enough to block the waves emitted from the glassing though unprotected skin will be penetrated quickly. Don't remove the mask, and from this point forth, I recommend not intakeing anything not sealed- food, water and air. If done rights we can get through this. If not..."

He left his sentence hanging. Everyone knew how to complete it.

"We should head off now, times wasting and me? I don't plan on dying unless I can bring the b*stard down with me." He hefted his flamethrower. Igniting the flame underneath, more for effect than anything.

Taylor walked out of the tent, Joseph tending to the pilot now, he walked over to a sniper they looted from the shack, he walked over to Ashley, saying to her, "Ash! Take this, you're coming with me, I want to check the Chapel." as he walked over to a ridge, it was grassy, so it mildly cloaked his midnight black armor, and looked below him, he looked at the drop and muttered, "Long way down..." as he looked into the scope of his sniper, he turned Night Vision off on the gun and just zoomed in, he saw the Hellbringer, Jacob, as he watched him, he looked on, and soon smiled and put his hand to his ear, "Jacob! Hey, Jacob, respond." as the radio remained silent, he watched on as he saw out of the corner of his scope, a Jackal, uncloak, and aim his Beam Rifle at Jacob, he muttered some curse words under his mouth as he turned his sights to the Jackal's head, and pulled the trigger, the bullet rammed down at ferocious speeds and hit him clean in the eye, the Jackal was down on the floor, Taylor couldn't tell if he was dead or not, but his gun had fallen over the edge, he wasn't much of a threat, he turned to the jammer behind him, just a small panel on an air shaft, and he shot again at it, he yelled, "Bingo!" as his radio turned back on, static, but on, he turned again to Jacob, and put his hand on his receiver,

He talked into it, "Hey, Jacob, how's your day going?"

Turning around mid-sentence, Jacob narrowly avoided a particle beam rifle ****, a bright blue plasma bolt narrowly avoiding him but clipping his helmet. Looking round, he saw the creature take an AP round to the neck, letting off a gurgle and plenty of blood as it clawed at its missing throat before finally dying in a death shriek. Still shocked, he looked up at his guardian.

"Actually, it's pretty good. Been nearly sniped, cut in half, set on fire, thrown up from dead rotting bodies and now I'm going to be deal with radiation poisoning. How about you? Say, I got a gas filter for you. Need it?"

Looking at a scan of his helmet, he put out the small burn mark the round had put through his headgear. Although not serious, it still was a danger if it took another hit. "So how's our Falcon going? Ready to go? You know how long we have left.."

Taylor put his hand to his receiver again, saying, "I know how long we have left. We've had some, complications... That pilot marine blanked out a couple hours ago, we can't move without him, and the Falcon is f*cking toast Jacob. We have a map though, it might take longer then expected to get there, but if we stay on the move, we may be able to make it. Get back on up here, and say goodbye to the civilians, they are in capable hands, don't worry." as he docked his sniper on his back and moved closer in the woods, he Jetpack-ed  up a tree and crouched on the perch, where he looked for Covenant resistance in the area, then he saw it, a long gaping valley, and a covenant energy bridge and base, they had troops stationed there, probably to block human escape, Taylor got worried, and took a leap of faith back down as he fell into the bush, he got up and quickly sprinted back to base, seeing a familiar face, he shouted, "Jacob! Jacob! They got a barracks over that way!" pointing towards the forests as a scream of a Pelican or two's engines whirred above him, he looked off in the distance, to where the Covenant carrier is, as a UNSC frigate emerged from orbit, this was their last stand, he looked up at the Pelican, carrying a Warthog, as a marine took his hand out and called to him and his crew, as Taylor almost grabbed his hand, another Covenant Cruiser emerged from orbit, along with Banshees and Vampires, Taylor heard a familiar screech, as Vampires jetted down from the orange sky, homing in on the pelican, the Pelican dropped the warthog on the ground, as it rose into the air, the pilot acted prematurely and rose into the sky as fast as he could, but it wasn't fast enough, one Vampire shot at the engines before lifting into the air, the other crashed directly into the Pelican's side, sending it moving away, Taylor could hear the pilot's cries for help as he crashed into the mountainside in a ball of fire, Taylor quickly turned to his group, saying,

"We're leaving, Ash get the gun, Jacob you are getting shotgun, Rook on the back with Ash and the Pilot, c'mon, Go, Go, Go!"

As he ran into the driver's seat, starting the car as fast as he could, one problem, the engine wouldn't start, he yelled curses at it, continuously restarting the car, Banshees were fast approaching, he tried one last thing, he punched the dashboard, all of a sudden, the engine purred, and he smiled and turned, saying, "Everybody strapped in?" as he floored the petal, sending the car flying into the wooded areas, at full speed, Taylor tried his best to avoid hitting trees, he would end up scratching the car here and there, as he heard a very familiar sound of gunfire from the turret, he turned, and saw Ghosts in hot pursuit, Taylor turned and said, "Jacob, how is a flamethrower against ghosts?" and nodded to the Hellbringer, as he swong the car around, in a postion where Jacob could let his flamethrower rip, as the ghosts fast approached it was up to Jacob now, to fire away on them.

Finding a spartan laser in the back of the Warthog Joseph lets out a burst of a red laser hitting one of the ghosts wings sending it spiraling out of control slamming into the other ghost ending both the Elites lives in a HUGE explosion. But Joseph never got the chance to see it be cause he went flying out of the back but luckily he grips the edge of the Warthog. Now he was hanging on for dear life as he did not want to die by getting ran over by his favorite vehicle. Being able to pull himself up in a last resort of using his thruster pack to fling him into the the back but in the process ramming his head into the inside of the Warthog. "Ahhhha!! Aww man that hurt." Joseph says as he sits up but in a daze. "Did I make into back into the Hog? Hey where's the Spartan Laser? Ahh well at least I know why Spartans only use it." Then remembering the ghosts says "Are the ghosts dead?" Not even knowing what happened.
